Chapter 63

Lia looked up at the sky—it was the first snowfall of the year. Her hardened face melted at the sight like the snowflake that landed on the tip of her nose.

She had just spent the whole afternoon at the library, which caused some distress to the librarian.

'There simply aren't any more books to recommend, sir.'

Lia gazed at the white flecks dotting the darkness, slowly pulling off her new leather gloves to catch the snowflakes on her palm.

A carriage rolled past her, wheels leaving faint tracks in the snow. A cat yawned, curled into a ball under a garden lamp. Her breaths escaped between her lips in white puffs.

It was a silent night.

She looked out into the black and white world and giggled. As she turned to walk into the house, she stuck her tongue out to catch a snowflake.

Of course it doesn't taste like anything, Camellia. You're such a fool.

Lia licked her lips absentmindedly when a memory surfaced in her mind.
