Protective Bloodlines

"I am the King, they accept what I do without question." Vincent said in a firm and sure voice.

"Since you are the King, does that mean that you have many wives and concubines?" Quinn asked glancing at him again as they walked on the bare earth.

Vincent's smiled broadened and he tried to hide it, but she saw it, "I have never taken a wife or concubine before, you are my first and only wife."

She felt relieved when she heard his answer because she couldn't live among other wives or concubines and their skimming. "That's a relief to know."

"Are you asking because you are jealous?"

"No, I don't know you well enough to like you to that extent. I just can't live with all the evil plotting and planning." She answered shaking her heard.

He nodded, "I want to know some things about you as well. Why are you, a Princess still unmarried? I know that human Princesses get married early."

"Yes, that is true. Princesses get married early at fifteen years of age, but I am already eighteen, and that is because I did not find a man that interests me. My father had to find a Prince for me to be betrothed to because Princesses shouldn't stay long without getting married. But even the Prince I was betrothed to is not very interesting to me."

"Not interesting? What qualities do you find interesting in a man?" He asked as his eyes showed his curiosity.

"A man that is out of this world, that isn't ordinary like the Prince. I thought that I was destined to live a boring life in his palace, but I now know that that is not the case."

"The case is that you are destined to live in a demon's palace." He said with tight lips as they started walking into green land. The grasses crunched as Quinn walked on them, but they didn't seem to do so when Vincent walked on them. She noticed that and looked at his shoes which looked normal then looked forward as they continued forward.

"Why do you say it so bitterly?"

"Because I have made your destiny worse and not better even though that is not my intention. I want to make your life as interesting as possible and make you feel loved as my wife and Queen."

"Oh, but my destiny is not worse by going with you. It is getting interesting."

"How so?" He asked glancing at her.

"I will be interacting with people of different kinds that I have never interacted with before, and I am sure it will not be boring even if I didn't have a choice, but to marry you."

"I am very sorry, Quinn. I did not wish to force you, but I need your love. It is a key to helping me and my kingdom."

"How is my love a key for you, and does that mean that you knew about me before I called you with the stone?"

"It is too complicated, but I will try to explain what the curse lets me."

"A curse?" She asked in confusion as trees and shrubs came into view on their sides.

"Yes, did your grandfather tell you the story of how I came to give him the stone?"

"Yes, he said that some dark witches locked you in a magical cage and he helped you escape since he was human and the magic on the cage was only effective to demons."

"Those witches also put a curse on me while I was in their captivity, and they also made it so that I could not talk about it. That way, I could not get help in breaking it."

"I am sorry to hear that. They are very cruel to do such a thing." She shook her head in sympathy as she felt a pang of sadness again for him that day. Even though she did not know him, she wished that he had never experienced such a thing before.

"They are beyond cruel, they cursed me on finding my love. That is all the curse will allow me to say."

"What horrible creatures, it must be terrible not being able to say what you want to say."

"It is not as terrible, my powers as a demon has broken most of the curse except for the last two parts. I need you for that, and only then will I be free."

"I see and your powers as a demon are very strong. I saw how you were able to defeat an army with only a wave of your hand."

"Yes, as I said earlier, my mother is from a powerful bloodline of demons and vampires while my father is from a strong bloodline of the first demons."

"That means you have many abilities, but if you are a demon, why do you wear white?"

"Demons are not evil creatures as human kind makes them out to be. We are just like you, but with certain abilities and slow aging, and like you, there are the good ones and the bad ones." He said as she looked at the sky, the sun was going down and they were in twilight, it was quickly going dark.

"That is good to know. I knew that you could not be evil when you saved us."

"Even though I asked for you to pay a price?" He turned to look at her in surprise.

"Yes." She nodded glancing at the sky again, and he followed her gaze.

"It is getting dark, we should rest and continue our journey tomorrow. We have around four hours to arrive at the palace."

"Alright, we need the rest, but what about food?" She asked as he sat down on a fallen tree.

"I can change fresh food to cooked using my powers, and I do not see any animals near, but I can listen for them." He listened to the surrounding as he looked into the forest beside them and she watched him in amazement.

"I hear a rabbit near by and I see it too, I can catch it and transform it into a meal."

She was impressed by his powers, "You can see and hear what is far away?"

"Yes, but this rabbit is just behind those shrubs." He pointed to the shrubs at the front of the forest. He stood up from the fallen tree and gestured for her to sit down on it. "Please sit, Quinn. I will be back before you know it."

"Alright." She sat down on the fallen tree and he almost disappeared before her eyes as he ran to the forest using his powers. If he could do that then why did he not do that so that they could travel quicker on their journey?
