Pushing

She swallowed, shaking the thought away. No. Not thinking of him. Not now. He was irrelevant, a fragment of her past she didn't need to worry about anymore. Her focus had to stay on the here and now—on this family, on finding out who had murdered her father and grandmother, and who had tried to kill her.

She placed the frame back on the table and found herself wondering if she should really come back to live here. Maybe the sight of her moving back in would unnerve the killer, make them feel that their work was unfinished, and drive them into taking action. But the thought of living in this room again, in this house, still gave her the creeps.

She took a deep, steadying breath, turned back, and almost walked straight into a man standing there. She stopped herself just in time, looked up, and frowned. "What are you doing here?"

Sidney's eyes met hers with a small, unreadable smile. "Of course I'm looking for you, Rena."
