Four

I stand in a daze looking at the car that drove away. Then I hurried inside the library checking in for the day.

I enjoy working in the library for all the perks, first and foremost the benefits of getting free books and the availability of various kinds of books. Let us not forget about the free Internet access and an area to study.

That is how I take some online classes here and there.

And that is also how I met my good friend Daniel. He also works at the library. He said he enjoys working here for the peace that it offers. Daniel came from a rich family and doesn't need to work at all. they own a departmental store franchise and a couple of malls.

He is exceptionally humble and kind. If I didn't know about his family, I would have assumed that he came from a humble family.

Daniel was already there arranging books when I walk in.

I glance at my watch and I made it in time.

I place my bag on my table and help Daniel with the books.

He looks up at me and smiled.

" Hey, how's work? " I greeted him.

" Alright, how's Aiden? " he questioned by tilting towards me.

"he is doing well, had lunch? " I asked back realizing that I am quite hungry and I was looking forward to our break.

" well, not yet but I did sneak in a sandwich for you. I knew you would be hungry. " He took out a wrapped sandwich from his pocket.

My eyes visibly lit up at the mention of the sandwich.

I jump and hug him in joy.

" Seriously, you are the best Dan," I said hugging him in joy.

His body tenses up when I hug him. I forgot to mention he does not prefer physical contact.

" Okay Okay, that's enough Faith" He literally flung me away from his arms.

I pouted and look at him aggrieved.

That never works on him. Dan flicked my forehead with his hands.

" Ouch!! that hurts Dan" I whined at him

"But thanks for the sandwich," I said genuinely grateful for it.

" I need to sort out the books in the storage. let us meet during the break " I said to him munching my sandwich with relish.

" I already sorted it out for you. And you're welcome I had some free time." He replied with gentleness overflowing out his eyes.

" Awww Dan you really don't have to do that. You are spoiling me " I replied feeling lucky to have a great friend like him.

I look down at my sandwich and took the last bite and lick my fingers.

" That tastes heavenly," I said licking my fingers.

" Stop licking your fingers you filthy piece of a hungry beast," He said pushing my head away.

He looks super disgusted with his annoyed expression and he was blushing down his face and neck.

Dan blushes a lot. He blushes every time he is annoyed or shy.

"Alright lovebirds, come help me with the new arrivals " The door opened and Mr. Jeffrey walks in called out to us.

I laughed silently and replied, " For the final time, we are not lovebirds Mr. Jeffrey. Why would you even say that??" I said thinking Mr. Jeffrey was funny?

I quickly walk towards the parcels and Dan followed us.

Mr. Jeffrey left after telling us what to do.

We were harmoniously doing our job

Dan passes me the books and I was sorting in into different categories.

suddenly I was reminded of today's Uber incident and I smiled.

"What is so funny that you are smiling at yourself, care to share with us?" Dan asked.

" Today I had a funny experience. I called an Uber but it got canceled. And I didn't realize it got canceled and I hitchhike a random stranger thinking it was my Uber driver " I whispered.

"You are very reckless Faith, what if it was a creepy dude??" He said unbelievably.

" But it was not a creepy dude. On the contrary, he was handsome and kind " I rebutted.

"How handsome?? better than me?" Dan interrogated.

" yes," I said looking at him innocently.

" you know what sort this books yourself. I am done with my shift anyway. " He was fuming red when he stands up and walks away.

" Heyy wait, Dan, stop being childish. Dan listen to me" I said laughing at his childishness.

" what about lunch?? " I inquired which he totally ignored and slammed the door. Luckily, we were at the back of the library where we sort out books. And no one was here otherwise we would hear an earful for being loud.

After I finished my work I walk into the front where my table is to take my purse since it was my break time. And I was thinking about going to eat something from the diner across the street. When I reach my table I realized that Daniel was sitting in my chair playing video games with his headphones on. Next to him was Linda. A regular to our library. I am pretty sure both their reasons for coming to the library are because they like each other but they just won't progress. They are really cute together. I saw two bags of takeout on the table. They probably were planning to eat together. so I tactfully grab my purse and planned to head out when Daniel called out to me

" Hey, where are you heading??" he inquired.

" oh I will go grab something to eat real quick" I answered.

" I brought some spring rolls and sushi with me. Are you sure you don't want some??" he asked

Dang, I really want to eat it but for my friend's love life I should resist.

" Ohh no. I don't even like spring rolls. Enjoy it with Linda " I said winking at him. Go, friend!! this is your chance.

" Oh really!! I love Spring rolls " Linda replied with ecstasy.

Daniel glares at her.

"What?? she doesn't want to eat it.." Linda said aggrieved looking at the food.

" Yes totally I hate it, " I said swallowing my saliva.

Daniel look like he had something more to say but I ran away like a cat.

" bye-bye enjoy your lunch". I said before I tactfully close the door.
