Fairy 23: Drinking away the loneliness – Cana POV

A funny guy had joined the guild. That was Cana Alberona first thought. As she watches the boy removing his clothing, only to display his naked body to the guild. And of course, only to earned Erza's wrath.

Unlike most that came here to become stronger, or a place to belong to. Cana didn't come here for that. In fact, this girl wasn't always the heavy drinking girl. If she was a normal human, her liver will be damaged due to all that heavy drinking. However, because of the Ether inside her body. It is a known fact that Ether can dispel the most harmful tonics in one body overtime.

That's why wizards like to go overboard when they drink. After all, thanks to the Ether in their body, the tonics will heal itself over time. However, that doesn't mean all wizards are immune to all poisons. Specially if that poison is created with Ether itself.

That is why there are Poison Wizards out there. Of course, most of them belong to dark guilds.

The reason why Cana became an alcoholic, especially at a young age of 8 (AN: I think?). That is because, when her mother died. She told Cana about her father, his name, and where to find him. And that place was of course, Fairy Tail. And her father is no other than the most powerful and popular wizard of Fairy Tail, Gildarts Clive.

That's right, but to her disappointment. She finds herself unwilling to tell him, who she is. Which made Gildarts himself clueless that the young alcoholic is in fact his own flesh and blood. She wanted to tell him, which is why she told herself, once she becomes a S-Class Wizard, she will tell him the truth.

However, she already been in few S-Class trails, and failed all of them.

It cannot be helped; she is strong for her age. But still not at the level as a S-Class Wizard. Which only made her down herself in despair. And barely anyone else at her age that will drink with her, since they may try it, since there no age limit when it comes to wizards. She has none to share a drink with her, until he came.

Even if he treated her as his own sister. And even spar with Cana once, but he stopped. Knowing she doesn't want something like that. And just drink with her, it was funny to see the newbie drinker that passes out. But it didn't take long for his resist level against alcohol to even match hers. They mostly chat when they drink, as it is a shame to her, since Cana has no clue what they talked about, since they nearly always hammered when they do.

But she enjoys the company, and even listens to him with his troubles. And he did the same, listen to Cana while they drink. He also buys her wine whenever he goes out on missions. Since he has no other use for money since he basically living from the land. It's not like he is poor, or he is unable to afford rent in the town, he just simply refers to live in the wilds.

Anyway, it was thanks to him telling his problems. That she sees him in a different light compared to others. He may mature faster than others. But it doesn't mean he has no problems. He worries about a lot of things, which comes out when he becomes drunk.

'I wonder… if they don't need me… that's why I studied… I don't mind studying, but… does not mean I like it… I just want to be… of help to someone… since everyone… help me… so-'

Cana remembered the words he spoke before he passed out at that time. As she cannot helped to sighed, as she looked towards specific table in the guild.

It's been a month since Zack left, and the funeral of Lisanna Strauss has passed.

Elfman has been working out a lot more he did before lately. Trying to become stronger, so the same mistake won't repeat itself.

He still uses hi Take Over Magic, but due to the trauma of killing his own little sister when using Full Take Over. He cannot used Full Take Over anymore, but he still able to turn his limbs into beasts and monsters' forms.

Of course, when Elfman found out Zack has left the guild without telling, it be a lie, to say he wasn't happy. But it not like Elfman didn't understand. Instead of getting upset, he made a promise to himself, that the next time when Zack comes back, he will become more manly then ever before.

Natsu didn't like the fact that he learnt about Zack went away. Of course, he did felt lonely without his big brother to company him with food or dual with him. He wanted Zack to return to who he was a year ago. After all, Zack in his first year before his broken heart, always fought and play with Natsu.

Natsu no fool, even if his IQ level might be questionable. He knew Zack left the guild to recover what he has lost. Which is why Natsu didn't say anything, and just show a small smile on his face, each time when he thinks he can fight with Zack when he comes back.

Gray himself, already knew about Zack's plan to leave on his journey to reform himself. However, it also the same day when Zack was about to leave, was the day Mirajane and Elfman returned back, with the news of Lisanna's death. After all, Zack's original plan was to take on a mission far away, so he can sort himself out. However, in the end, Zack didn't take on a mission, and just leave not only to find himself, but to see the world as well.

Erza with her sharp intuition, properly figured out about Zack's plans before anyone else. While Makarov knew due to his own vast experience as a guild master, and as a senior Wizard.

"Anything wrong, Cana?" The one that asked that was Erza, that notice her staring at her and the person besides her.

"Nothing, it just… a lot had changed ah." Cana told.

"I know, it been a hard time on all of us." Erza said.

"If you ladies want, I can keep you company~?" It was at that moment when Loke happened to walk past. And Gray who is next to, sighed, when he saw this playboy hasn't change at all.

"I am good thanks~" Cana rejected.

"If it to the training grounds, I did get a new set of armour I want to 'try' out." Erza threatens with a kind smile.

"O-Oh, what is this? I seems to forget I was invited by some other ladies earlier, it is rude to keep them waiting, oh my, it seems I have to go! See you girls later!" With a wink, Loke run away with his life, or so it seems like to Erza and Cana.

On the other side, Gray looked at the fleeing Loke with blank eyes.

"That guy… never mind. See you guys later." Gray turned to Cana and Erza, as well to the 'person' next to Erza. Before he completely went out of their sight, he cannot help to moan at his fleeing friend.

"What invitation? Didn't you basically asked me to go on a mission with you…?" Gray went, as he doesn't even see the point why he must chase women skirts all the time for. And shake his head in disappointment, before he chased after that playboy.

As for others besides these three people. Natsu and Happy are in fact on a mission at this moment. Laxus like aways is with his lackeys, who don't seem to be interested in anyone besides their own group, or themselves.

Seeing they are mostly alone, Cana took a deep sigh, and thought she must say something, to the two girls before her. Especially the white haired one. Of course that is Mirajane. Normally you won't see both Ezra and her together, especially sitting with each other.

However, it been hard month for her. Losing her little sister, losing control of her magic. And a promise to a guy she has hurt. And she felt she has no rights to be besides.

But she has changed a lot within that time. For one, Mirajane clothing is no longer the tomboyish goth style. But now she is just wearing a normal knee length plain blue dress, that has purplish tips the bottom parts of the dress,

Even her hairstyle has changed from a once ponytail, now let down. It seems in order to change herself, the first thing she did was to change her looks and her clothing style.

Seeing Mirajane change so much over the month, Cana cannot help to feel glad she is feeling a little bit better, even if it only a little bit at that. And then she remembers something.

"Say, have you two ever heard Zack, when he sleeps talks?" It was something that only Cana, Makarov as well other senior members of the guild knew.

However, Cana also thought it might be for the best, to tell these two about those dreams he has. After all, one is an older sister figure, while the other, is a love interest, in a way, they do have rights to know that side of Zack as well.

"He talks in his sleep…?" Erza asked, while Mirajane just shows a small smile, which has loneliness within it. But didn't anything, just looked down.

"Yeah… only few knows about this. In fact, I wasn't going to tell you, since they not decent dreams. However, I thought you two might as well know about them…" Cana said with a sigh.

"Not… decent…?" Mirajane went, feeling she truly did not know the guy… in fact, it always been him trying to find out about her. But she didn't care back then, who with her selfishness, and prideful self. That not once tried to find out more about him.

That is why when she heard Cana saying not decent. She cannot believe it, that pure, and cheerful boy… actually has something like that about him? It is no wonder, when she heard Cana said that her heart aches, with the desire to hide in some hole somewhere.

As for Ezra, she remembered her experience before joining Fairy Tail. Needlessly to say, it was the side of the pure boy she didn't know about. Which unlike Mirajane that felt her heart in pain, she felt curious why he didn't tell her about them.

But when Cana explain about those dreams, and the fact Zack doesn't remember anything about them. Both girls looked at Cana with blank faces, until Mirajane's eyes become tearful, as it seems she will cry any moment.

"I see… I truly didn't know anything about him… I know it… I not worthy to be… by his side." Mirajane said with loneliness in her tone.

"That's not true. I am also surprised… no wonder he hasn't told anyone. He doesn't remember it himself, no, it is more like his memories doesn't want him to remember about his past. But Mira, is this the reason you are changing, not only to prove you have the right to side by his side? But, to change into a better person, don't worry, I will make sure you stay on the right path." Erza went, like the half-dragon she is.

"Mira… I still not used to it… but thanks Erza …" Mirajane said with a smile.

As for Cana looking at how close they two are, cannot help to think of this.

'I wonder if Gray and Natsu be this close if anything happened to one or another?'

Of course, having one of the two pairs that always headbutt each other, turn into this. At this point in life, Mirajane that wanted to change herself, not just for Zack, but as a better person herself. Is glad that her former enemy as well rival is standing by her side, making sure she doesn't fall off her new path.
