Chapter 35 : Soul Binding

Knight was somewhat wary of Ultear.

Throughout the conversation, he sensed that she had her sights set on him, likely trying to lure him into the Council's grasp. Not wanting to fall into any traps, Knight found a convenient excuse to end the conversation and set her aside for the moment.

Afterward, he entered the [Library] and picked up a book titled "Magic Encyclopedia," intending to quickly learn some basics about soul magic. He knew that if he wanted to master the thought body technique, he first had to grasp fundamental knowledge of soul magic.

The journey continued in silence.

By the time the train arrived in Magnolia, the evening had settled in. Everyone disbanded at the station, heading off to their respective homes.

Knight and Lucy, being neighbors, walked together along the river. Knight stayed close to the water's edge, engrossed in his magic book. Seeing his focus, Lucy couldn't help but tease him.

"If you don't watch where you're going, you might end up in the river, Knight," she warned playfully.

"I can see everything around me," Knight responded with a smirk, never taking his eyes off the book.

Lucy glanced at him, noticing his eyes, which glimmered with his Six-Eyed Magic. She couldn't help but admire how captivating they were.

"Could I ever learn that kind of magic?" she asked, intrigued.

"No," Knight replied, shaking his head.

It wasn't because he wanted to keep the power to himself. The Six-Eyed Magic was a gift from the system, not a native magic from the world of Fairy Tail. Even if he tried to teach it, no one else would be able to master it.

Back at home, Knight drew a bath and kept the "Magic Encyclopedia" in hand, continuing his studies even while soaking in hot water.

Before going to bed, Juvia sent him her usual private message. She had developed a habit of messaging him at regular intervals throughout the day.

Morning:

Juvia: [Good morning, Knight-sama.]

Sigma Man: [Morning.]

Noon:

Juvia: [Good afternoon, Knight-sama. Have you eaten?]

Sigma Man: [Yes, I have. How about you?]

Evening:

Juvia: [Good evening, Knight-sama.]

And right before bed:

Juvia: [Good night, Knight-sama.]

Her messages came like clockwork, more punctual than an alarm. Sometimes, Knight found it amusing but also a bit overwhelming. Her devotion was sweet, albeit a little awkward at times.

However, today's messages had a new twist.

Juvia: [Good evening, Knight-sama.]

Juvia: [I finally sold all 400 rings today!]

She was clearly fishing for praise, and Knight couldn't help but smile. Naturally, he obliged.

Sigma Man: [You've done an amazing job, Juvia. You've helped a lot.]

Juvia: [Juvia is so happy to be of help to Knight-sama~ blush]

Juvia: [I'm still working on a task for the guild, but once I'm done, I'll come see you right away!]

Juvia: [By the way, Knight-sama, I saw on the forum that you're interested in learning soul magic?]

Juvia: [There's a magic book about it in the Phantom Lord guild's library. I'll sneak it out and give it to you!]

Knight couldn't help but chuckle, caught between amusement and concern. She was willing to steal a magic book from her own guild just to help him, even though Fairy Tail and Phantom Lord were at odds.

What would her guild master, Josh, say if he found out?

Sigma Man: [You don't have to do that. It could cause a lot of trouble if your master finds out.]

Juvia: [Is Knight-sama worried about me? That makes Juvia so happy~! But don't worry, I'll be super careful!]

Knight shook his head, unsure how to respond. Juvia's earnestness was endearing, but her actions were a little extreme. They chatted a bit more before Juvia, as usual, wished him good night at her usual time.

The next morning, around 9 a.m., Knight entered the guild, where the tavern was already bustling with activity.

"Good morning, Knight," Mirajane greeted him warmly, as always.

"Good morning, Mira," Knight replied with a smile.

Mirajane was, as usual, dressed in a lovely red gown, her hands clasped gently in front of her as she flashed him a kind smile. The sight of her always lightened Knight's mood. Her beauty was beyond compare, perfectly matching his ideals.

He took a seat at the bar.

"Mira, have all the commissions been synced?" he asked.

"They have," she answered cheerfully. "I've sorted them into categories based on their content."

Knight accessed the Internet and entered the online commission board, specifically the Fairy Tail sub-section. Unlike the early days, the commission board was now bustling with activity, categorized into various sections—beast hunting, collection, magic support, and more. The system made it easy for guild members to find jobs suited to their preferences, with clear indications of the reward levels.

At the bar, Makarov chuckled approvingly.

"It's really quite convenient, Knight. And of course, Mira, you've done an excellent job as well."

The old man, sitting cross-legged on the bar, raised his glass of beer, complimenting both of them.

Mira smiled humbly. "This is all Knight's doing. I only did a small bit of organizing."

Knight shook his head. "Mira, you're the key player here. I just built the platform. You're the one maintaining it. It'll be up to you to keep the commission section running smoothly."

Makarov watched the two of them, a warm smile forming on his face. They made a good team.

"So, Knight," Makarov asked curiously, "what's the next feature you're planning to develop?"

Knight pondered the question for a moment. It wasn't that he lacked ideas; he simply had too many to choose from and didn't know which to focus on first. Plus, he wanted to learn the thought body technique, which would allow him to delegate tasks to his clones, giving him more time to relax.

"Master, do you have any suggestions?"

Makarov thought for a moment before responding. "Is there any way for ordinary people to use your magic network?"

"Ordinary people…" Knight trailed off, contemplating.

Currently, the silver-white magic rings he had developed required users to input their own magic to activate and bind to them. But how could ordinary people, who didn't possess magic, access the network?

The idea wasn't impossible. After all, magic tools that didn't require users to input magic were already common—powered by embedded magic crystals. But the problem was the binding mechanism. The rings needed to bind to the user's magic, and without magic, there was no way to establish that link.

Changing the binding process would require some creative thinking.

Sensing Knight's hesitation, Makarov added, "At the moment, commissions can be accepted online, but clients who don't have magic power still need to come to the guild to post them. If ordinary people could use your magic network, they could connect with Mira directly and post their commissions online. It would make the process a lot more efficient."

As soon as Makarov finished speaking, a new task popped up in Knight's system.

[Task: Develop a new Internet login method, based on the magic ring, that can be used by ordinary people.]

[Reward: Will vary depending on task completion.]

Another task, was triggered by his conversation.

With his experience from the last system task, Knight wasn't too surprised. He scanned the details and then nodded.

"The biggest issue is how to bind the user," Knight said aloud. "Master, do you think we could switch from magic binding to soul binding? Would that work?"
