The power of Yraka, the valkyries, was not at its true level yet. Everything that was happening was the start, and it is why Kyrie has to steel his heart and proceed.

"So, you gotta face death enough times and pray for your powers to be strong. If they are weak, you need to do more than just face death in the eyes." A weak power needed more compensation. It required something more to become stronger.
