"Spare me, I can give you everything I own!"

"Shut up! Answer the questions!"

Brooke was integrating the wounded the dragged back, the enemy was run by a rich old merchant wanting the same fame as Ilnor the slaughter. They marched an army here with far more cannons than him believing his victory only came from them, and tried to repeat his glory. The idea was funny, since they never entered the mountain range instead they got stuck at the entry.

"Well we can assume he won't be invading again, the mercenaries he said all stopped wanting to raid the base. Not enough money for a suicide mission, but he still has some willing to run the cannons."

"We should attack them. Crush them completely."

Vera shook her head at Brooke's idea, she saw the reality of guns. They didn't all die with their cold weapons because they couldn't demonstrate the guns' real effectiveness. If they charged in an open field they would lose everyone, probably including herself.

"How many people died, and are injured."

"We lost seventy men, and forty are too injured to fight for a while."

Vera realized they only had around seventy men left for the defensive, they still needed some scouting on the cliff edge and some running basic supplies to them from the supplies spot. The situation was dire, she realized she needed to switch to studying necromancy arrays for defense.

"We need to kill the prisoners."

"What, why?"

She didn't understand, while Brooke looked completely serious.

"They know how weak we are, they will talk. Mercenaries always talk, they have no morals only profit for a goal."

She didn't want to kill defenseless people, but she still nodded to it reluctantly. Vera heard a distant pop noise, indicating a coming round of cannon fire was on its way. She crawled into a nearby cavity, and realized her reality.

"I really am far from home."

The memory of walking home after seeing her friends back then hit her in that moment, it honestly felt like another life all together. She just sat in the cavity hearing explosions and cannon grapeshot hit the ground like a rush of rain, her mind was unbothered by it instead the past bothered her more.
