At this point, Ted was exhausted enough to need some fudgy bread. It wasn't exactly his favorite delicacy, but the sticky, loud men in front of them had made him interested in getting that quick spike of energy before the majority of rounds would turn the tide in either direction.
He watched as what looked to the untrained eye like an attempt to play the king of hearts smartly ended up in the trick being taken by the trump ace, anyway. The Lakish were winning.
When the cat did not show up and all the Clayish team had were two threes and a two, the Lakish took the rest with their trump cards and Ted forced himself to act disappointed.
A roaring round of booing exploded in the front rows, carrying on through the entire hall and echoing with threats and curses from the places where people didn't even have any seats.
Those poor bastards had to be sorry about spending their pay on such a disappointment.
