"I never expected this to happen," Aldric said as he stared at Max's grave expression. In fact, this was the only thing he could tell him after the incident that might have just cost the new princess and Max's new wife her life.
"Who is it?" Max asked, his hand on her pockets as he stood at the corner of the room, his back against the wall. One look and Aldric knew Max was already watching his back. Maximilian Knight did not feel secure around Aldric, which was only natural, given the current circumstances.
"It is the Blood Sorcerers. I am certain of it," Aldric said.
"Seraphina would never do something so stupid," Max said. "They would not want to have the vampires breathing down their necks. They have enough enemies to deal with. Are they perhaps foolish enough to attract more enemies?"
"She must have wanted to use this opportunity to create a further divide between our races."
"And she is succeeding," Max said. "You are letting her succeed."
