Chapter 19: Failed Contact

I'm on my way to Drake Halton's unit. At hand were the stolen- I mean borrowed clothes that Vyl wore yesterday. I'll leave this in front of his door so it will look like a room service or something. It’s a good thing that he mentioned his floor level and unit number, making it easier for me.

It's Sunday meaning it's my wash day so I washed everything that needs to be washed, including the clothes we borrowed without permission. I left Vyl inside the condo since he can’t help me with this.

After placing the neatly washed and folded clothes in front of his door, I quickly left. I still I can't believe that I'm doing this. I will really be in big trouble if he finds out.

I'm on my way back to my condo unit. When I was outside the room, I can hear some peculiar noises from inside. I immediately opened the door and my eyes popped out of their sockets with what I saw. Vyl was sitting in an Indian position but he's not on the floor.

He's floating.

Both of his eyes are closed and his hands are rested on his legs. Is he meditating?

"What are you doing?" I asked with a creased forehead. I walked around him, still wide eyed in shock and awe. "How are you doing that? You're floating for Pete's sake!"

He slowly opened his eyes and stared at me blankly. "This is natural for us."

That left my mouth opened. Right, how stupid of me to react. He kinda looks serious though, not the Vyl I'm used to.

"So, are you meditating?"

"No."

"Then what?" I sat on the floor in front of him, still amazed. He closed his eyes again without answering me. I thought he’d left my question hanging but when I was about to speak, he cut me off.

"I'm trying to contact my brother. I need to know what's happening in Pluvilia."

That silenced me, so I observe what he’s doing, just floating in front of me. So, they can communicate, huh? I keep forgetting the guy I’m with is not normal. To be honest, this is the first time I've seen him doing extraordinary stuff. I wonder if he can fly.

"Damn it!" I was surprised when he suddenly shouted before falling to the floor from floating. He pulled his hair, forehead wrinkled in dismay.

"What happened?"

"Fuck, I can't contact him or any of them at all!" I can hear clear frustration from his voice. He looks really troubled.

"Why can't you contact them?"

"I don't know!"

I was slightly taken aback by his shout. I didn’t expect him to shout at me, making me step back. He immediately noticed my reaction so I saw him calming his expression down

"I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." He sincerely said. I just nodded and shrugged it off. I'm not really offended by it.

"It's okay," I said and smiled. I think he noticed something from my smile because he came closer to me before sighing. He held both of my hands and caressed it gently. Although surprised with him holding both of my hands, I didn’t move and just let him.

"Look, I'm really sorry. I'm just frustrated because I won't know what's happening there if I can't contact them."

"Is it that bad? What will happen if you can't contact them?"

He was hesitating whether or not tell me but he still ended up telling me. "Remember what happened yesterday? When we were buying clothes?"

"You mean, when you suddenly felt pain?" I said, making sure if it was what he's referring.

"Yes, it was the Lunarians." My eyes widened with what he said. What did he mean with that? "They already know that I'm here on earth that's why they tried attacking me using long range spells."

He paused to look at me, silently asking if I can understand him. I gave him a slight nod to signal him to continue. "The spells had an effect on me internally. I felt the pain inside that's why my nose bleed. I think that's the only thing they can do while we're in different worlds."

He shifted his position and laid on the floor. I remained seated while still looking at him.

"But for some reason, it stopped. Minutes later, I stopped feeling the pain. Like a shield appeared and protected me from their attacks."

"Is it connected to us being bound again?"

"I think so. You play an important role in my life, Ven. As long as we remain bounded, we will always be connected."

I stood up from where I was sitting and went to the kitchen to make coffee again. I noticed that we have little coffee left. As far as I can remember, we still have a lot in stock. Looks like this guy drinks coffee a bunch of times in a single day.

I went back to where we were holding two cups of coffee. I gave one of the cups to Vyl, like we always do. He sat down and started sipping from his cup.

"So, going back, now that the Lunarians know that I'm here, there's a high risk that they will do the next attack while I'm away. Pluvilia's defense is not that strong at the moment. Only my younger brother is there to temporarily lead them."

"How about your father? The king?"

"The king is currently bed-ridden because of the last attack. He's unable to fight."

It must've been critical. So, everything depends on Vyl now. "Everyone in your world is in trouble now that you're here?"

He nodded as an answer. That is indeed a big problem. Him, coming here, would be in vain if the the residents of the moon or whatever invades his world

"I already took the risk of coming here. I thought that it would take a long time for them to realize but I was wrong."

"Why don't you try again?" Even though it's kinda my fault why he’s in trouble at the moment because I don’t want to come with him, I’m still worried for him.

He shook he head in response. "I really can't. I can't sense them or even feel them at all. It's like their out of my reach." I sighed hopelessly. There should be some other way, right?

"Maybe because the room is cramped."

I looked around the round because of what he said. ‘Cramped’ is a bit too much. My condo’s not even that cramped. It’s far too spacious since I didn’t have that much furniture.

"I'll try again on the roof," he said that made my jaw dropped out of shock.

"What?! On the roof?!" I asked with an eyebrow raised. He’ll float on the roof? Is he crazy? Out of his mind? He just nodded before opening the window and perching on the window sill. I quickly ran towards him, holding him by his clothes.

"What the hell, Vylant?! Get down from there! What the hell are you doing?!" I said in a panic for this idiot looks like he’s about to kill himself. Although I know he won't.

"I'll fly. It's a shortcut." I literally froze on the spot when I heard what he said. I look stupid right now. He was really going to jump out of the window, luckily, I’m holding him and I keep tugging him back inside.

"You idiot! Stop it!" I’m starting to get hysterical here. What if someone saw him flying around? I forcefully kept on tugging him back but this creature is a lot stronger than me. I can even hear him laughing.

"You prick! And you even had the gall to laugh?!" He fucking looks entertained. If someone sees us, they’ll think that this guy wants to kill himself and I’m trying to prevent him from doing so.

I gasped when he wrapped his arm around my waist and in one swift move, he jumped out of the window.

With me.
