Elusion or Illusion?

A perpetrator, betrayer, most importantly a liar….. What circumstances would make a person lie? Would they ever feel remorse? Would a small lie ultimately be the cause of one’s trauma and possibly even death? Nisa Novak, a woman who tries to elude her past. Lies were something she would say on a daily basis with no guilt, as the world she deemed, 'deserved it'. Amidst all this, comes a variable she had never thought would; an innocent soul. Unexpected events, cause her to ultimately find a lie that would cause her downfall. Stuck between truth and lies she can no longer discern, she chooses the easiest way to save herself, ignorance. This is the villain’s side of the story instead of the victim’s. Her only key to salvation probably lies in the 2040's technology. "Everything is gonna be okay." "Will it ever be?" Or was it all just an Illusion?

SIB

What was puzzling was that the envelope had no name of the sender. It only had my name. Even though there is a letter box, why push it under the door? I opened the letter and was quite surprised to see the content.

Nisa Novak,

This is to inform you that you have been selected to be recruited in the SIB agency formed by the government. Contact us by dialling 5370, if you would like to confirm our offer.

What is happening, What is this SIB? And how did I get recruited into it? Did I apply for it?

It even had the logo SIB - engraved within a black wreath circle in block letters. I asked the system to cross check it if it was fake. What does SIB even stand for ?><

The text on the letter disappeared in the next 10 minutes. The entire paper was blank. I searched for it on the internet, and found out SIB stood for 'Supernaturals Investigation Bureau'. The agency was established 5 years ago due to cases of missing persons and murder cases of similar patterns as bodies showed up now and then. Not much has been revealed to the public; but the disappearance rate has gone down according to the available news sources.

And now, they want to recruit me? A teen who has just turned 18?!

They probably want to train me and use me for their investigations? But I'm not sure if I even want to.

Isn't it risky enough that I'm 18?

I placed the letter aside on the shoe rack and went about my day, I will think about this later. It was as normal as it could get. I felt a little better, giving my house a decor… just that, it felt a little lonely. To cure that, I spent my time in front of the TV. When I felt hungry, I made myself some lunch (It was spaghetti btw, one of the few dishes I can make) Regardless, It was peaceful. If only things could go on this, then maybe I wouldn't have anything to worry about.

But, fate never lets things go my way.

I still kept all the lights on at night. I went upstairs and plunged into the bed. I haven't had a good night's sleep in a long time, since I feared I would be lowering my guard. I woke up early at 4:30 in the morning. I quickly freshened up and headed downstairs for a warm cup of coffee. I walked about in the living room sipping my coffee.

My eyes wandered towards the entrance and something white on the floor caught my eye. I almost choked on my coffee, I placed my cup on the dining table and paced towards the entrance in quick small steps dragging my feet on the floor. I found another envelope on the floor with the same content and just like last time the content disappeared. What the!?

The letters kept coming in the next few days, and my patience ran thin. I glared at the stack of envelopes on the shoe rack. Do they not have patience? What is this? fan mail?

I clicked my tongue while wondering whether or not I should sue them. Or I could go to that damn agency and warn them myself. Enough is enough. If I don't reply, isn't it understood that I am not interested. They are trying to force me. With no second thoughts, I asked my system to locate the agency. It was located at the centre of the city- fancy. I changed into a plaid shirt and black jeans, combed my hair into a bun and covered it with a cap. I did my usual UV protection routine and set out to the agency.

I huffed and puffed as I walked towards my destination. Don't blame me, I am still traumatised by what happened last time. I seriously need to get myself a licence. I took a lot of breaks in between, buying myself drinks, cold coffees in the cafes I passed by. After 4 hours of walking, I reached a huge building with a vast landscape around it, which I assume was the office I was looking for. People really like their greenery here don't they? But…..It was the shape of an egg!? It had their logo positioned at the centre of the glass facade brimming with a metallic glow. There wasn't any gate, I felt elated.

I happily walked along the path and a warm breeze gently brushed past me. I ran up the steps at the entrance, as the doors slid open to reveal striking technology I hadn't seen before, there were people dressed in official attires everywhere inside. A classy brunette sat at the reception. Her long hair was pulled up into a tight high bun. She looked very pretty. Her hazel eyes behind her pointed glasses were glued to the screen before she looked up to me as I approached her desk .

NAME: NAOMI BAILEY

AGE : 28

RANK: SS

ABILITY: INTUITION

Woah! To be able to see so many new abilities, I feel quite fascinated.

"Excuse me, I would like to ask someone here about the letters I've been receiving regarding recruitment offers."

"Of course, I will accompany you there"

She's not asking me anything, does she already know about me?

Another person substituted the seat she left vacant. I followed her as she led me towards and into the elevator. She pressed a yellow button, and we zoomed up. The doors opened and we walked through a long corridor painted in a combination of dark blue and white patterns leading us to a cabin door, a nameplate - 'Genelia Aaron-Chief head' planted over it. Naomi opened the door and I walked behind her into a room filled with the soft aroma of lavender instantly calming my nerves which almost immediately left as Naomi left the room revealing the back of the head of a woman in a chair turned towards the window on the wall behind her.

The woman stood up and turned around the next moment, almost scaring the life out of me. Her aura was immense, almost suffocating. Her deep grey eyes pierced through me and I couldn't talk, and anything I wanted to say on my mind disappeared as well. She had short mahogany coloured hair that stopped right above her shoulders. She was dressed in a black shirt and pencil skirt that reached her knees. To finish the perfect official outfit, she wore a cream coloured blazer over it.

Can someone look this intimidating?

NAME: GENELIA AARON

AGE: 45

RANK: SS

ABILITY: PSIONICS

I am truly in awe. Does it mean she can read my mind? She walked towards me and a smile dawned her face.

"Don't you think it's rude to not greet your elders?"

I was surprised when she spoke suddenly, I blinked and felt a little embarrassed as redness showed upon my face.

"Uh, Good morning ma'am. I am Nisa Novak."

"Why yes, it is a good morning. Since you finally accepted our invitation."

"That is what I am here to talk about-"

"I know you are irritated because of the letters and are here to complain about it. First of all let me apologise for disturbing you but please let me explain."

I could feel her sincerity but I wondered whether she was just messing with my head.

"You seem to have a wind of my powers"

"Not really, it's just a guess. You spoke before letting me complete my sentence, so I assumed you had something to do with telepathy." I had completely blanked my mind now and only thought of a T.V with black and white static fluctuations.

"Hahaha… You're quite perceptive. Yes, I am close to it. But please do believe me, I am sincere. I am not manipulating you."

"We'll see after your explanation."

"Do you mind taking your cap, sunglasses and mask off? It builds trust."

"After you explain yourself"

"You can be quite stubborn..." There was a glint in her eyes, she's trying to… no way.

"How dare you?!" This time I spoke with as much intimidation as I could muster up. Vines grew from the ground around me and glowered at her.

Once again a smile broke out on her face, and she laughed. What was so funny?

"It really is you. My powers don't work on you do they? Your level is above me. SSS. I am sorry, I just wanted to confirm. I am going to owe you a favour. Don't worry, I won't try to use them on you and this is the first… no, the second time… a person was brave enough to do this"

"You, well, you have already lost my trust"

"I know, I will have to earn it"

"Whatever, will you open up now?"

"Yes, yes. Follow me child"

it's been a while hasn't it?

But we're still very grateful for yall's veiws!
