Eclipsed Horizons

Lightning bolts fell, meteors struck the Earth, and mutant beasts invaded society through so-called 'Dungeons.' Everything happened instantly, and human civilization took a turn for the worse. In a frantic attempt to contain the damage, Prime Ministers and Presidents held conferences, a lockdown was enforced, and military squads were dispatched to take care of the so-called 'beasts.' Yet, everything was for naught. Perhaps only those capable of wielding a mysterious force known as 'Arcana' could dispel the panic that ate away at the morale of the people. Among those selected was a mere boy named Nova Lockwood. --- 1-2 Chapters will be released every day. Don't forget to bookmark and throw a power stone my way if you enjoy. The MC is not graced with regression or reincarnation, so don't expect a wise schemer from the beginning. Anyway, enjoy!

"Bow," said the bunny, his voice laced with arrogance and a tinge of mockery that seemed humiliating to Daniel. However, sensing the power that exuded from the cute-looking bunny, Daniel couldn't help but obey.

Dipping his head as he clenched his fists, Daniel gritted his teeth, bowing before the suited bunny.

Suddenly, a man dressed in a white shirt rushed towards the bunny, his fingers clutching a hunk of metal capable of firing several bullets each second. His expression was strained, but his instinct forced him to break the bunny's control and revolt.

"Jake!" Daniel shouted, a vein bulging from his forehead. Angering the bunny was something they couldn't afford to do.

However, before the words could pierce Jake's eardrums, they were drowned out by the intense noise of bullets. Sparks flew in all directions, followed by Jake's adrenaline-filled shout that seemed to contain intense fury.

Judging by a glance, the bullets would surely pierce the bunny's tender skin, ending its life almost instantly.

But was that what truly happened?

Nope.

The bunny cocked his head innocently, glancing at the bullets as if they were traveling at a snail's speed. The world seemed to have slowed as if he were the only existence capable of matching it.

'Unique Skill, Heightened Reaction,' thought the bunny–also named Lok. His eyes glowed a rather unique hue, a flash of light rushing past it. At that moment, he rushed forward, his finger brushing along the bullets.

He grabbed them as if they were toys, directing their trajectory toward the ground.

Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!

By the time the soundwaves arrived, everything had already occurred. Lok stood–unscathed–at the center of all the bullets, grinning widely at Jake, who seemed to have pissed his pants. It was over.

If bullets could not harm the little devil, what could?

There was one answer.

Arcana.

As if on cue, a piercing scream reverberated across the hall. All humans had already evacuated, leaving only a few officials and the bunny remaining. However, it seemed someone had been scared shitless, and was unable to escape.

A teenager, it seemed.

Donning a plaid shirt and ripped trousers–a unique taste in fashion–and pure, white shoes, the teenage girl stood amid a row of seats like a statue–motionless. She had glossy, blonde hair and fiery, crimson eyes.

Her pale cheeks were stained with tears, and her usually fiery eyes drowned with fear.

"Stop!" She screamed. Despite being a helpless scream, however, it seemed to draw the attention of the devilish bunny, his eyes flashing with a sense of interest at the rare specimen he'd spotted.

"Arcana…" Lok muttered under his breath. "Ah, so it has already begun. I figured it'd start quickly, but not this quickly."

The girl seemed confused, but quickly wiped the tears from her cheeks. At that moment, staring into the bunny's eyes, she felt both fear and anger course across her body, the latter emerging triumphant in the end.

She clenched her fists, glancing at Jake and Daniel.

She'd come to the press conference alongside her parents, who were reporters for a famous company. However, they'd abandoned her in fear of the entity, opting for the opportunity to escape rather than assisting their fear-stricken daughter.

But she had not the time to mourn.

Survival was the ultimate priority, and before the existence that stood in front of her, it was going to be difficult.

However, she felt she could achieve it.

Her muscles seemed to be waiting eagerly to release their power, while a magical sensation ate away at her, advising her to use her abilities. She felt as if she were resting atop a soft, sweet cloud.

But simultaneously, she could feel the rage boiling within her.

"A prodigy, I assume," said Lok, approaching the teenage girl as if she were naive and incapable of harming him. He didn't understand the error of his ways…

"You fucker…" The teenage girl–also named Sally–muttered under her breath, her negative emotions overtaking her true personality. Her limbs wiggled out of her control, and a suffocative feeling overwhelmed her.

Pushing her real self down.

Like a jet pistol, her arm shot forward, grabbing the bunny by its neck and startling him. Lok cocked his head innocently yet again, somewhat alarmed. However, he was still unaware of the power the teenage girl held.

Well, it wasn't technically Sally in charge of her physical body at the moment.

"Hm?" Lok snickered, baring his teeth while attempting to escape Sally's grip. However, it was as if she possessed steel arms. No matter the pressure Lok applied, Sally's arm didn't seem to budge.

Cr–Crack!

As a jolt of pain rushed across Lok's neck, his eyes almost popped from its sockets. Trails of blood crept past his sclera.

"Urk–"

"Shut up," said Sally, revealing a deranged smile as she pulled him close, their eyes meeting. At that moment, her hands seemed to glow a blinding hue, following the ignition of something great, something grand.

The oxygen in the surrounding atmosphere decreased at breakneck speeds, while flames took form, emerging from Sally's hand as they engulfed Lok in their eternal slumber. The former couldn't help but laugh.

However, despite enjoying the situation, Sally's arms burnt alongside Lok, yet she felt no pain whatsoever. Sally–or what had risen from the depths of her soul–didn't seem to care for its host or her body.

As burn marks continued to appear on Sally's arms, Lok–who seemed to have nestled in her grip–burnt away as a puppet drained of its life force. Not a single scream escaped Lok's mouth… more like he wasn't capable of screaming.

Once Lok was merely a pile of ash atop the hall's floor, Sally collapsed atop the ground, her arms injured beyond belief. However, a demonic smile hung at her lips as her eyes slowly closed.

Daniel and Jake inhaled a gasp of cold air, their minds blank.

'What the fuck just happened.'

At that moment, a translucent, blue status interface appeared before Sally, although she wasn't able to see it due to her unconscious state.
