“Nay, but he made me see that I loved you. And I knew I had to come home…to you.”

The beast that crawled inside me wiggled a little but was less painful. “What happened to him?”

“When the weather changed, he begged me to stay with him. When I said I had to go, it hurt him. But I told him there was someone else. He was sad to hear those words, but he understood.”

I had to know his thinking. “So you told him about us?”

He fixed me with a black-eyed stare. “There wasn’t anything to tell. You’d rejected me, remember?” His tone softened. “But I did tell him about my brother, War Eagle.”

“What about now? Are there feelings between us?”

He looked down his nose at me. “How can you ask after what we did? We are good together.”

“True. But animals have sex and feel good about it.”

“I am no animal. I am a man. And I have feelings for you, as you say you do for me.”

“What happens now?”

“Simple. You are mine. I am yours. I came home just to find you.”
