It doesn't last, of course. Calm like that never does. Before you've quite managed to to finish your sandwich, a vampire jogs up to where you're all sat.

"Hey, Sonia," the new arrival says. "There are some humans down at the fence; they're asking to see you."

"What are they like?" Max asks, looking at the vampire.

The vampire glances warily at Max. "Just…just humans," she says, before adding, "Two of them had badges."

Max nods, smiling. "Will, Romilly, and Grace," he says. "Well, let's go say hello, before Grace tries to raid Matron's snack cabinet."

With some reluctance, you all get to your feet, then trudge over the school field, past groups of vampires and werewolves. They're not mixed gatherings, on the whole, but you can see the odd crossover: a couple of vampires chatting to a reclining wolf, or a group of werewolves allowing a vampire to sit in the nearby shade.

"They're learning," Michelle says, watching the scene.

You nod. It's a start.
