Chapter Thirty | Avalon

I pull open the familiar metal doors and step inside, the rhythm of a catchy song echoing through the rustic bar. It’s not too crowded tonight, and there’s a clear path from me to Alexander. I walk up to the bar and assume an empty seat, smiling up at the man.

His orbs light up as soon as they meet mine, and despite being at work, he leans over and kisses my lips. The contact sends electricity through my skin like a current.

“Somebody is in a good mood,” I mention, glancing over the menu. He matches my smile.

“I’m always in a good mood when you’re around.”

“Likewise. Can I get an IPA?”

Alexander raises an eyebrow, clearly surprised by my choice.

“Now that would be a first. Have I brought you to the dark side?”

I roll my eyes at the dramatic response, biting back a knowing smirk. I may be trying to impress Alexander, but I would never tell him that. Besides, my father always drank IPA’s when he and Mom went out. I wouldn’t be his daughter if I didn’t at least try one.
