Chapter 55

“How do I know that?” asked Kar. “Maybe it’s because you want me to trust you?”

“Maybe it’s because I love you!” Daniel yelled. With a final heave, the ancient hinges creaked as the bolt gave way. The bottom hinge of the metal door slipped to the side, taking Daniel along underneath the sliding door.

“Dany!” Kar raced to him and helped him ease out from under the metal bars. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine,” he snapped, removing Kar’s arm from his with a bit too much force.

Kar stepped back as Daniel dusted off his arms, but a smile tipped on his pink lips. “You love me?” Karden asked.

Daniel froze. “I uh…I didn’t mean…” he stammered.

Kar features lighted up. “You said you love me. And now you are babbling adorably,” he said. Kar’s delighted laughter filled the room as he took a step back. “You love…”
