Chapter 43
“Daniel!” yelled Karden diving toward him.
Looking down, Daniel expected to see blood, but instead found a gash in the material of his pants. “I’m okay, it just grazed me,” he mumbled, realizing he somehow escaped being shot with only a scrape on his leg. He reached into the torn fabric and pulled out the coin from Karden. “And I think this is why.” The bullet sheared off the coin, acting as a thin layer of armor for Daniel’s leg. The only evidence was the hollowed column now carved into the metal. Daniel laughed and flipped the coin in his hands to Karden, who wiggled his eyebrows in response.
“Nicky,” Sam said with strained patience. “You might wanna pull her off of him before we got a dead body on our hands?”
