Dragon Slayer Cain

On a peaceful afternoon in New York City, Brooklyn, A now fifteen year old boy Ron was looking forward to celebrating his birthday with his family. -- However, their serenity would eventually be cut short when, out of nowhere, what appeared to be Dragons started to invade New York. These ferocious beings led an onslaught of fire all over New York, captured the remaining surivors, and sent them to imprisonment. The last of the human race was treated like livestock before their inevitable extinction. Ron's family was executed right in front of him, and when he tried to take revenge, the dragons simply laughed in his face before killing him as well. However, it would seem destiny heard Ron's plea of one more chance to take his revenge no matter what. He was reborn into the very world these dragons came from, a world filled with magic, swords, kingdoms, and war. A new face, and a new name, Cain. Cain embarks on a journey in this new world of fulfilling his revenge, not only for his family but for all of humanity that went extinct at the claws of the dragons that day. P.S: If you do decide to check out my story, I would greatly appreciate a review, I'm very interested in other people's feedback!

Dinner

That night, I didn't sleep. If I'm in the same world as the dragons, then that means revenge is still an option.

How could I have been such a clueless idiot in the first place, I should've suspected that I didn't reincarnate in the past of the same world once I saw those two moons for the first time.

What the dragons did was unforgivable, to think such an evil exists and is breathing the same air as I am right now. Just thinking about it makes my stomach turn.

And I won't just avenge my family, I'll avenge the billions of families that died in vain that day, too.

The destruction of an entire world and civilization won't just go unanswered. As long as I am still living, I will make sure the dragons pay for it in blood. For every dragon that lives and breathes, I will make sure their life is traded for every man, woman, and child who lived and breathed that day, too.

Except, I still don't know how. Their power was unmatched. It was literally from another world. However, I'm now in that world too, and if that's the case, then that means..

Magic.

That's right, that white dragon said that she lended me the last of her "mana." Does that mean the power of this world is magic? Or is it only a power that the dragons can use?

This is why I'm here right now, waiting to ask my "parents" about magic. However, they're still asleep in the tent, so I've decided to wait on a hill that overlooks the beach.

We live outside of the village, but it's not for any particular reason since a lot of the Gilya do the same, so I guess that it's just a preference on whether you want to live in the village or not.

I always come up here though, on this small hill near the beach with a tree overlooking it. It creates a nice shady spot for me to think or just be alone.

I'll usually be out here early in the morning since most nights I can never sleep because almost every time I do, it's a nightmare, and it ends with me waking up screaming.

"Magic? Why are you interested in that at such a young age, who even told you about magic?" Cale asked.

"It's because I want to be strong."

"Kids don't normally start learning magic until they're twelve, and if they decide to pursue it, then they will attend an academy at fifteen or sixteen where they will learn and train to become turn mages to protect Aesion."

I looked at him confused.

"Then what's wrong with me learning it now?"

"The problem is that the mana veins in a humans body don't awaken until they're of pubescent age. So no matter how hard you try, you'll have to wait until you're twelve or thirteen like every other human."

He then informed me that mana veins awaken from the heart, and only after going through severe physical training can you start to intake mana through it, essentially a breaking in process.

I tried to ask more, but he said that he wouldn't tell me unless I caught us something to eat for lunch and dinner, which means that I have to hunt two beasts instead of one from the forest.

When I first began learning to hunt, I was already five. Back then, I thought my 'parents' were crazy, but I quickly realized that the humans of this world are very different from my previous one.

Their skeletal system is much sturdier and stronger even at a young age. I think that it probably has something to do with the fact that their hearts "awaken" mana veins at eleven or twelve. Anyways because of that, I'm able to traverse the forest and hunt as a six years old.

To get to the forest, I have to go through the village, and there is a path that goes through it that eventually leads up a hill deep into the forest where the beasts are.

Right now, I'm creeping along in the forest, looking for the Moren, which are basically hogs if they came from hell, because they have horns.

"There they are," I whispered to myself as I spotted two Moren eating the grass.

Hiding between two bushes twelve feet away, I got into position to throw my spear. I pulled my shoulders and arms back and then

*hhk*

Right in its skull.

I let that one fall to the ground as I ran after the other one.

"HRRRIEEEEEK"

The beast shrieked as it started to run up a hill. I quickly ran to a nearby tree and climbed it to get above the hill before it did. After holding onto one of the branches and waiting for it to climb up, I let go and landed on its back.

Taking out a bone knife that was strapped to my shoulder, I stabbed one side of its neck and then pulled it all the way across to the other.

"HIEEKK-"

Its screams were cut short as blood spilled from its throat, and it collapsed to the ground.

I left it as I went to retrieve rope that I left back at the bushes. Then, after getting it, I went back to where it collapsed and tied it around its torso and then dragged it to where the first one that I killed with the spear was.

Then, after tying both of them together, I began my trek back home.

"What else do you want to know?" Cale said as we were eating the Moren for dinner.

"Do dragons use magic like we do?"

"Yes and no, a dragons body has two hearts, so they're able to achieve two levels of mana higher than a human is able to."

"Then how can I get stronger than them?" I asked with frustration.

Both Cale and Milura stopped and looked at each other before turning back to me, and then started laughing.

"Cain, you're only six. Why are you trying to become stronger than a dragon??"

"I'm just very curious."

They then explained to me that every race is able to achieve three stages of a magic heart.

A red magic heart

An orange magic heart

And a yellow magic heart

The two stages that only the dragons can achieve are the white and black magic heart.

They said that some experienced yellow heart mages can take one or two white heart dragons, but as far as black heart dragons go, they're unmatched.

"Why not have an entire country with a military of yellow heart mages attack then?"

They both looked to each other in confusion before responding.

"Well, the Aesion continent has been at peace with the dragons for ages, but.."

"But??"

My dad continued for her,

"Aside from this continent there is one other that has been at war with them and is in continuous strife, but it is none of your nor our concern.
