Dreams and Freaks

The earth became silent after a while. Down the road was a hospital. In the hospital, there's plenty of shut eye and quiet noise. The light beeps of machines keeping track of breath rates and pulses, the mumbling chatter of doctors, the clack of clipboards being hung by pegs. But then in most hospitals death would stroll. Life hung. There's some kind of unpleasant silence in the air. Life and death, matters of daily concern. It always impossible to be comfortable there.

Yet a dingy teen slept like a little baby for the past 5 weeks without opening an eye. Yawning, he stretched and sat up straight.

    " Shawn!"

That voice seemed familiar to the boy's hearing. He rubbed his sleepy eyes clearly and slowly saw the light.

" Mom?"

" Oh my boy. I thought I'd lost you"

His mother cried. Holding his head against her bosom. She'd grown pale and faint from the stress and worry. What Shawn didn't want to see in his mother. He hated it and it broke his heart to see her cry even more.

Those events happened a week ago. Now he'd been in school like the normal days. He had a goal to achieve. Not to become wealthy rich. But to be rich so he'd provide the life his mother truly deserved. He was taking a stroll through the yards of the school, reflecting when a sudden hiss hit him.

    " Hey."

He looked at the corner. It was Tyler.

Ugh; what does this freak-show want to talk about this time.

" C'mon man. Over here I wanna show you something"

He walked over to him, pulling up a frown. The sky had a gentle tone. Cloudless and full of beauty. The trees around swayed to the rhythm of the wind. His eyes flickered to the past events. Damian, the brawl, his dignity being rolled up in the mud. He was full of hate for the Jones.

Except that the father was kindhearted in ways. The son, an obvious opposite in genes. Shawn still couldn't get that eery feeling in his veins. After the incident at the forest reserve his head went blank. All he could remember was a rock exploding and the whole area crushed. But the medics had said they found him unharmed. His mates too. Even Damian. Who he wished caught up in that blast.

   " Hey."

Tyler was grinning from ear to ear. There was something about him today. That smile he had was like he'd broken beyond scientific notations and discovered the impossible. Still, Shawn had the strange pulls in his veins. Every time he walked it was like a part of him had gone missing. He ached within. And it was hurting. But still he couldn't figure out the details. Last night, he had a strange dream of an old man driving a sword into a young lad dressed in an armor. Then two serpent like creatures batted in the air. One of greater poise roared and the other got massed up in flames.

A tap broke his thoughts. He flinched and saw Tyler.

" Um. Are you okay?" Tyler asked, worried a little bit.

Shawn looked over at him. Such a nerd. And he'd never tell him. Tell Tyler that he was suddenly having strange nightmares of death and dragons. No possible way. It must have been the blast. Yes. It messed up his mind.

" No. I'm good," he replied, " now please don't waste my time and tell me the reason as to why you called me"

" Okay. okay. No need for the attitude. Check this out"

Tyler pulled his backpack open and brought out an object. A first sight it glimmered against the sunlight.
