Chapter one

It wasn't going to get me,that was what I kept telling myself.They weren't going to get me

I've had this dream every night since I could remember.My parents had brought every healer on the surface of the earth.I had gone through series of treatments and acupuncture but they still persisted

It was always the same thing but each time it happens it was more bloody than the last

There was a pair of violet eyes always staring at me,it was always the eyes I could see

It felt like this creature had no body but just eyes and If I closed my eyes it wouldn't see me.I could see the ruins of the city,I was on the back of a dragon and I could see my family lifeless body on the soil .

Their lips blue,their eyes rolled to the back.All the beauty gone from their faces.It couldn't get me,It couldn't get me,It couldn't get me

"Elara wake up"I heard my voice from a distance and felt a pair of hands on me but I couldn't bring myself to open my eyes,it felt like they were sealed shut

Suddenly the pair of violet eyes came into view and I jerked awake.

"Are you okay"I heard a voice say from beside me.I looked to see my mothers emerald eyes staring at me "You're sweating"she said as she cleaned my face with a towel

"Is it the same dream"she asked and I nodded "Do you want to talk about it" and I replied with a quiet No

"Okay sweetheart"my mother said and stood up from the side of my bed

She closed my door on the way out and I finally let myself breathe.I was having a panic attack,my dreams felt like I had witnessed them before ,I could feel the flames from the buildings around us,I could smell the death like it followed me into the real world from my dreams

Morning came and I was up,I didn't really go back to bed after what happened last night.I never sleep through the night

"Good morning"I said to the cook as I sat down on the counter stools. "Morning Elara"she replied back

Cara has been in the family since I was born and she basically raised me

"What would you like for breakfast"she asked me with her back to me

"Oats and eggs as always cara"i said to her smiling.There was a long pause before she said "We heard you last night again,"

As she slid my breakfast to me.

"Are you excited"she asked me shrieking "Excited about what"I asked putting a large amount of eggs in my mouth.I knew what she was talking about but it was always fun to act oblivious

"About the Academy Elara"she said coming to sit beside me "You've trained for this your whole life,I remember you always crying after trainings"

She was right,I had trained for this but there is a possibility i don't get to go

"I don't know if he'll let me"I said my voice low and she didn't say anything

I was right and she knew it,there was a chance I didn't go and my outburst from last night would probably seal the deal

"Lady Draconis would convince him"she said trying to convince herself more than me

I wasn't too sure about that,my father might have a soft spot for his wife being as they were mated but when his mind was made up.It was made up

He had been dropping hints about it since I was eighteen.The night terror became much worse the night of my eighteenth birthday and he said I wasn't going to the Academy.My mother had promised me she would talk to him and she did.

He changed his mind but the night terrors never really stopped but they weren't that bad.I finally realized that if I exhausted myself before bed I hardly had them.

But it would be madness to exhaust myself every night and last night was one of those nights

"I almost forgot Happy Birthday Elara"Cara said kissing me on the cheeks "I know you never really liked your birthdays"

"Thank you"i said smiling.She was right I never really liked my birthdays for some odd reasons.I turned twenty-two today and I wasn't excited in the slightest

I just needed today to end "You turned a very special age,the two twos.The number of peace"she said gripping my cheeks

"Maybe I can finally find peace"I mumbled more to myself

"She is grown enough to take care of herself,you don't have to keep treating her like a child"I heard my mother say angrily

"She is still my child and I will treat her as such"I heard my father yell back "She is not going to the Academy and that is final"

I looked over at Cara who gave me a pitiful look. "Do you want every one to know there is something wrong with our daughter"he said angrily

"There is nothing wrong with our daughter"my mother spat back

They didn't notice me in the kitchen as they made their way into it

"Morning father,Morning Mother"I said immediately standing on my feet

I wasn't given a response by my father but my mother smiled at me,The kind of smile that Cara gave me.I didn't want to be pitied

People always gave me that look since I could remember,I was homeschooled just because of it and every one,every staff member in the house gave me that look

I had no idea how my night terrors affected me going to a day school but Lord Draconis wouldn't risk anything

"Happy birthday Elara"my mother said to me coming to kiss me on my cheeks and I smiled in return

"It's your birthday?"Lord Draconis asked and I nodded.He asks this question every year

He looked over me like he was accessing me before saying "Do not bring embarrassment to this family,figure out how to control your night terrors at that Academy"

I couldn't believe it,maybe I could start making an effort to like my birthday's "Thank you sir"I said to him grinning

He walked out and my mother followed after him,few minutes later they came back

"Why aren't you throwing a party"he said looking more at my mother as he asked it

"She doesn't like her birthdays"my mother answered for me

"This is probably the last one she's going to have with us in a long time,so she should celebrate it"he said "You are celebrating it Elara" and I nodded

No one really disagrees with my father,no one has ever done and lived - well except for one person

We could hear shouts coming from the court yard,the estate we lived in was protected by guards and spells so whoever was making that noise should be dead

"First to get to the living room is the weakest"I heard a masculine voice say before I heard loud footsteps coming our way.We knew who it was but we weren't expecting them at all

They ran past us and ran back "Mother,Father"Elissa shrieked as she went in to hug them at once

"Did you miss me?"she asked as she placed a kiss on their cheeks

Elissa was my elder sister and my father always said she was his punishment on earth.She barely registered anything he says and isn't scared of him like the rest of us

Elrik went to hug my mom and gave a little bow to my father.They never had that father-son relationship mainly because my father was a lot more strict on him that he was on my sister

He never laid a hand on her while his method of dealing with my brother was throwing punches at him

And to make things worse for him,Elrik was the spitting image of Lord Draconis and he hated it

"Where is the birthday girl"Elrik said as he scooped me from the stool into the air

"Stop it,I just had breakfast"I yelled as he put me back on the stool

My elder siblings were twins and they were three years older than me

"Happy birthday"they screamed into my ears.My siblings have been known to pester me since we were kids so I had gotten used to it

"Thank you"I shouted laughing "Don't tell me you came back just to surprise me"

"Of course we did, we just wanted to drop in and say hello to our baby sister"Elissa said "And Emrys as well"

Emrys is our baby brother,he is four and is just the sweetest boy.

It was like he was waiting for his name to be called before he appeared because he ran in so fast and jumped on Elrik

"Hey Big Boy"Elrik said as he threw him in the air and they both laughed "Happy Birthday Elara"he shouted while still in the air

"Thank you Emrys"I replied
