Chapter 02 ~Curse~

"Some of us cling to our curses like we don't have better things to cling to."

Recap...

"I promise, just take care of Devon and most especially Iris," She said zipping up her pieces of luggage.

Dad nodded and they hugged each other so tight. Tears were already flooding from my eyes, I couldn't hold them. I ran as fast as I could away from my parent's room door, so they wouldn't find out I was eavesdropping.

Mom walked up to us to say her final goodbye. Her eyes were still bloodshot, she tried to hide her tears but it didn't work.

"Mom, where are you going to are you leaving us?"

End of recap...

"Sweetie, mom has a lot of work to do. Okay and she's gonna be gone for a while." She knelt right in front of me, so she could be the same height as me. My heart ached to see her like that.

"Mom, why are you leaving us? Is it because we are not that rich? Or don't you love us anymore?" I muttered as I held my teddy bear to my chest tightly, as she stared at me with wide eyes.

"Sweetie, when you grow up, you will understand all this, you will understand that all that your dad and I are doing, is for you and your brother. You know mom loves you so so much, but mommy has to go," She said wiping my tears and staring at dad and then at me and Devon.

"But mom!?" My tears increased all of a sudden, as I stomped my feet on the ground.

"Ma'am, we're ready." The driver came from nowhere and said, waving the keys in the air nonchalantly. She stood up to hug dad one last time and kissed both Devon and I on our foreheads.

"Bye!" She took her luggage and left without even glancing at our sobbing faces.

I kept on crying, but she didn't even turn back. From that very day, I considered myself to be a child without a mother.

Yeah, it hurts a lot.

Back to the present-day...

After all the drama that happened this morning, I decided I won't let my day be ruined because of mom, and besides, it's Saturday. I needed a break from all my weekly activities. So, I decided to spend my day with Chris, my best friend or maybe my only friend. We have been friends since we were five years old.

Heyyy, bibbs! are you free today, wanna come over??-Chris

Speak of the devil and he appears or he texts.

Sure I would love to and remember our deal Okay?-Iris.

Yeah yeah yeah, I remember. Just don't be tardy.-Chris

Tardy??.. Seriously Chris, what are you 50? no one under 20 uses the word tardy. It's called late!

Don't worry I won't be late - Iris

Whatever, bye -Chris.

Bye Bibbs - Iris.

It's been a while since I last spent my time with Chris, and when I mean a while I meant a week. So I began searching maniacally for what to wear.

My whole room floor was packed with clothes of all kinds. Let's just say I am a fashion freak. We ladies have issues when it comes to dresses, we have like a thousand dresses yet we complain we don't know what to wear.

Silly right?

It took me half an hour to pick an outfit. So I decided to wear my black high waist skirt, with a white crop top, and I topped it up with a black kimono jacket and my leather boots. I styled my long raven black hair into french braids and added other accessories and a little make up, which consisted of mascara and lipgloss. I smiled at my appearance in the mirror before strolling out.

"Dad, I am going over to Chris's house," I yelled from across the living room.

"Okay sweetie, but be back early."

"Yeah yeah, whatever dad." I beamed as I grabbed my handbag and left the house.

Chris's house wasn't that far from mine so I decided to just take a quick and peaceful walk. I swiftly put on my earphones, before playing a random playlist on my phone.

The music was so loud and I was just feeling the vibes.

I was so engrossed in my little music world before some random guy bumped into me and I fell on my butt. Hard!

"Ouch can't you watch where you're going!" I yelled still trying to get up, the moron couldn't even help me to get up. I adjusted my glasses to make sure I could see him clearly.

Damn! he is so hot, he actually looks like a model.

Omg! Did I say that out loud?

Iris...snap out of it!!!

He was clad in black tuxedos, which was tailored to perfection. His platinum blonde hair was styled perfectly to match his look.

"Umh! I should be asking you that. You are the one with four eyes," He stated giving me a quick once over, with that striking blue eyes.

Ouch!

"Well, Mr. Handsome a simple sorry would do, rather than insulting me," I said plastering a fake lopsided smile on my face while I was still checking him out. His eyes roamed around my whole body, before glaring at my face again.

What the heck! I just called him Mr. Handsome. He would definitely take me seriously.

"Wow! thanks for stating that obvious fact but I don't tell random street girls with four eyes sorry. Now if you would excuse me, I have got something important to do." He gave me a sly smirk and walked past me with two bulky men, that seemed like his bodyguards, decked in black and entered his car.

Rude!

I couldn't even say anything, could this day get any worse. Suddenly a wretched-looking truck drove past me and splashed muddy water on my dress.

I think I should stop saying that because it got worst.

I was just lucky because I was just a street away from Chris's house. I was feeling so sticky and disgusted, maybe because of the muddy water designed on my dress or the faintly quizzical look I got from people around.

Can't they mind their businesses?

Ding Dong!!!

I pressed the doorbell button.

"Heyyyyy!!!" Chris greeted me, with a huge smile and just stared at me. Well, I don't blame him. Before you know it, he suddenly busted into laughter. His eyes began to water, as he looked at me again.

"Wow! thanks for making fun of me, can I come in now?" I asked desperately.

"Well, you are a bit tardy," He said making emphasis on the word tardy and I gave him a death glare.

"Fine, come in." He sighed dramatically.

"Oh my God, Iris what happened to you?" Mrs. Parker, Chris's mom exclaimed as she stared at me.

"Well, it's a long story, ma'am do you have clothes that I can change into? I am feeling a bit uncomfortable," I muttered looking at myself like I am a kind of virus.

"Sure dear, go upstairs and freshen up." I nodded mutely, as she stared at me awkwardly.

Yeah, I am awkward, you don't need to make that obvious.

I was just so pissed off. I took a quick bath and changed into an oversized shirt and a sweatpant, I was pretty sure it was Chris's due to the size and scent of the clothes.

I rushed downstairs to join Chris and his mom.

"Finally, you are here," Chris said in a bored tone. I rolled my eyes at him.

"Okay guys, come have lunch." Mrs. Parker summoned us, after setting up the dining table.

Come to think of it, I haven't eaten breakfast, talk more of lunch.

"Coming!" We both yelled Simultaneously.

"Umh! I have just been called that there is an emergency so I need to go. So enjoy your lunch," Mrs. Parker said sadly, grabbing her bag, before leaving the two of us alone.

Mrs. Parker is a Medical practitioner for kids.

It's called a Pediatrician.

I was honestly delighted, that she prepared food for us before leaving.

What? I love food, and dude it's spaghetti and meatballs. Who doesn't want that?

And she's more like a mother, which I never really have. Yeah, you heard me.

"Okay, let's start digging into this bad boy," Chris said, already chewing on the meatballs and he moaned at the taste of the food. I sat beside him and started digging into it.

Yummy!

"I can see you had a pretty rough day, so spill the tea." He was still chewing on his food and he had no idea that there was sauce on his face while I just smiled.

"I think I am cursed," I blurted out but I think he took it seriously with the look on his face.

"Curse! why Bibbs?" He dropped his utensils before scrutinizing me with his eyes.

Yeah, we call each other bibbs. Chessy right!

Okay, I am serious now.

"Yes, I think I am cursed because all these can't just be mere coincidence. Whenever it is my mom's birthday or something that has to do with her, things just go wrong," I replied stabbing the meatballs with my fork.

Poor meat!

"Take it, easy girl, you are just being paranoid, so relax," He muttered softly trying to calm me down, but I gave him a scowl instead.

"Paranoid! first, so all some random guy just bumped into me and insulted me and some stupid truck splashed muddy water on my dress....my dress!...you know I love that kimono jacket so much," I said shoving food into my mouth. I could see he was holding his laughter.

"Bibbs, it's Okay. I get you are furious with your mom, just relax okay?" He gave me a lopsided grin and patted my head.

"Okay, whatever." I smiled back at him.

"I know what will make you feel better." He smirked.

"What???"
