Doomsday Ascension

The world is darker than our shadows. That is what everyone assumes until they experience it themselves. This experience makes you doubt your sanity. Some years ago, the discovery of energy crystals was made. They were said to be stones carrying immense energies the world had never seen before. The crystals were later on improved and utilized to improve work both industrially and domestically. They were used to power hospitals where children were born. Children born under this light began to evolve with extraordinary powers. Throughout the years most generations without the powers perished and the planet was now run by the hierarchy of strength in power. The appearance of these crystals got the attention of other creatures around the world and the safety of the world was no longer assured. Those who weren't born in hospitals powered by these stones were left powerless to be feasted upon by society. The corrupt system must be put in check but who knew it was far worse than that? Abel was one of them. He was an orphan left to fend for himself in this world ruled by those with iron hands. Abel could have stayed at the bottom of the food chain forever but he couldn't take it any more the embarrassment had to stop for good. ------- "The world is a tragedy for one and a blessing to the other, that's why I have to get stronger and protect those who can't stand on their own", Abel said to himself as he stared at the rectangular screen in front of his eyes. "No! this can't be. After all that the system had done for me is this how I repay its efforts?". Abel gazed at the ceiling of the battle arena in embarrassment. Was this how to leave a good impression? Thoughts were running wild in his malnourished brain. This sort of failure was attainable but not on the first day of encountering someone. "I get it he is better than me when it comes to strength and speed but I should at least have tried land a single hit on the man. I wonder how Bob would have performed in a battle like this since he is a speedster. With comparisons made from my analysis, the old geyser is much faster than him.

I can't blame myself for this outcome since I have never had a combat class before. Evolved persons are the only ones allowed to be inside the school's training hall since they are the main deal and we, the non-evolved persons are just spectators.....". Before he could finish with his thoughts, a familiar feminine voice was heard in his blank mind.

The voice heard was in a conversation with someone. Abel had recognized the other person's voice immediately he had mouthed out some words.

-------

[Three days ago]

(Just a memory of Abel's which narrates the conversation he was hearing in this head)

Abel had exited from his apartment a Friday evening. The building he stayed in was some few kilometres away from a thick forest which served as a natural notation to indicate the end of the city's boundaries. He had the intention of performing his daily stats in that area on weekends to prevent suspicion from others. Most of his neighbor's knew the kind of thrash he was and if they were to spot him doing anything incredible, they would make his life miserable. He didn't want to attract fame for been useless.

The repercussions of being useless to society mostly consisted of an infinite series of drama mainly composed of public ridicule. He wasn't ready to be the pinnacle of his neighbours' ridicule. The school was enough for him. He had started with the workout and was already done in no time. All of his stats were significantly improving as they should be and he had already levelled up due to the accumulation of exp points via each day he completed the daily quest.

"Open system menu interface", he ordered with a stern look since he was gasping for air after the training he had been through.

"Stat points: 24" ]

He had worked hard over the past few days and had obtain this stock pile of stat points. They were intended to be used when his situation was dire and he needed a boost in an instant. Events like that didn't come when they were expected so he had to prepare adequately against those unforeseen circumstances.

It had been a great day of completing his daily quest and he was of to start a great day.

On his way out of the forest his cellphone had rang and the number on it was a familiar one. It was Jazzlyn's phone number. Abel quickly accepted the call and was good to go;

Jazzlyn: "Hello!"

Abel: "Arrghh! Do you want to destroy my eardrum?!"

Jazzlyn: "Sorry it's my first time having to call someone by myself "

Abel: "Huh, what do you mean by that? I'm totally confused "

Jazzlyn: " You see, my family has a butler who takes care of all those stuffs. All I have to do is just make him aware of the people I want to call and he will sort through my list and do as I've said. It's not like I order him around but he always keep saying something about serving me is better than my sister "

Abel: "Totally understandable, I guess your sister made his life a living hell back then. So- so why did you call? Is there anything to talk about"

Jazzlyn: "There is and it is going to interest you. I can't tell on phone so meet me at a location"

Abel: " What could be so important that it can't wait till we meet in school?"

Jazzlyn: "Just comply and quit complaining like a sissy. Meet me at the location I'm going to send you via mail"

Abel: "Such discretion, what can this be about? Ok I will meet you there."

Jazzlyn: "Thanks and quit complaining sissy"

The call ended shortly afterwards. Abel had a confused look on his face since he didn't understand Jazzlyn's sudden actions. He had been in class with her the entire day and she couldn't say anything, they get home and all of a sudden she has something important to speak about.

----

Few minutes later

Abel was already on his way to the location she had sent to him. Turns out it was the same location they had visited after their stay in the restaurant. Was this another type of boring date?, the thought slipped into his head. It was a silly thought though. Since Abel hadn't been on dates before the idea of having on had bored him to death already.

Guessing about the subject matter of the conversation they were going to have was all that he could think off. All he had to do was sit tight and let fate decide whatever it wanted. He wasn't the one who chose this kind of life though, the one who did it would have to choose what would happen today too. That is how it has been since the beginning of the world itself. The world is an ocean of vague circumstances which no one of human nature could control. We are all meatballs ready to be feasted upon by predators. Predators who are clad in the same skin as but think they are far more superior than us.

----

He arrived at the rendezvoused place for the meeting. The park was cold and warm at the same time. It possessed a feeling of being secured and insecured at the same time. It lacked the regular vibe of happiness it gave even though most of the equipments and instruments used at the place had been set aglow.

"What kind of feeling is this?", he asked with a confused look on his face. Abel had reached the place not long ago but he felt he had been there for ages. This feeling of dread was filling the night sky with all sort of terrors.

*Ding*

"Huh, you almost gave me a heart attack!", he exclaimed when his phone had rung. It was a message which had been delivered by Jazzlyn. She claimed she had been waiting for him for an eternity and if he didn't show up at any minute she was going to cancel the meeting. Abel pouted after reading the message.

"Is this girl that desperate to talk to someone like me? When did I become this important to a girl of that prestige?".

*Meet me by the carousel*

Her new message had stated clearly her location. Abel traced the location of the huge merry-go-round which stood at the centre of the park. It was glowing a bright light containing all sort of colours. It illuminated the centre of the fair.

On one of the horses of the carousel, was young black haired maiden clad in red suit with a turtleneck collared shirt underneath the coat. Abel approached the particular horse when he had spotted the girl. Her features fitted the on he was looking for.

"Jazzlyn-Jazzlyn", he called out in a trembling voice. The girl turned towards the direction of the voice on instincts when she had heard her name. She had recognised the voice of the person and had already climbed off the back of the horse.

"Hey you snake, I have been standing here for almost 3 hours waiting for you. Where have you been?", she questioned with a smart but curious look on her face. Abel turned away his face in embarrassment when he had noticed two ruby coloured eyes staring into his soul.

"You look beautiful in that outfit of yours!", he proclaimed. "Wow, thanks that's quite nice of you to say", she expressed her gratitude. "I mean the colour of your eyes matches that of the suit. It makes you nothing but fierce ", he continued. Jazzlyn stared at him for some moments , she was trying to pinpoint the emotion triggering these kind of words out of Abel. Who knew the class joker could be this sweet.

"Why the meeting?", Abel asked when he had regained his cool. He was dying to know the reason behind this impromptu meeting.

"Oh, it's nothing serious. My brothers have designed a training regime for me ahead of the incoming final exams. Since you don't have any sensei teaching you martial arts, I have decided to add you to the training so we can all benefit and pass the exam".

Huh!

Abel stared at her. Dumbfounded by her words, he couldn't mutter out any word. He was stuck in place. "What happened?..",Jazzlyn began to speak but before she could finish, She had already been pulled into a tight but harmless hug.

"Thank you very much!", Abel proclaimed.
