Even though Alan doesn't know about the Templar or witch, he knows how freakishly strong Davis is; to be able to cut Davis's hand makes Alan see some hope.
"Look, I know how strong you are, Davis, but that man is something else. He is a real monster.
We tried grenades, explosives, and even acid, and nothing was working on him. How sure are you to beat him?"
"Monster?" Davis laughed.
"You've never met the real monster, Alan, something even far more scary than that. You don't need to worry about him; just take my deal, and then you only need to do the job we told you."
Alan hesitated. He felt interested in the idea, but accepting the offer would mean his people were at the mercy of this new ruler.
"Can't you tell me more details? Like, what is your boss's goal in this place?"
"Honestly, I don't know, Alan. I just do what I'm ordered without asking any questions."
"You!?" Alan asked in disbelief.
