Chapter 5

As the Persian soldiers were unlocking the chains on the cart, I surveyed the audience above and that's when I saw him; dressed in purple and gold robe with a golden flower crown on his head, that's Caesar Marcus Augustus Aurelius, our eyes locked for a moment, then he smiled. Seated by his right in white garment with sparkling diamonds necklace around her neck was the young girl I had saved, who knew she was the Caesar's daughter? I didn't.

She was staring at me with a shock written on her face while Caesar had this expressionless face on him, I would say he's in his early-fifties with a oval face and grey hairs.

As I was still looking around, I heard the deafening roars of the Cyclops, I turned around in time to witness a Persian soldier getting his head bashed to the ground while the brain flew off, another soldier was being ripped in two, and for the first time since I came, I felt immense fear.

WHAT THE HELL HAVE I GOTTEN MYSELF INTO?!

The Cyclops then charged at me, I dodged by jumping out of its way, then I took out my sword from it's sheath, if I'm to die today, I'm gonna die fighting, I closed my eyes and concentrated hard to unleash my inner demon...I opened my eyes with determination to sever the Cyclops' head.

I didn't rush towards it, I simply stood my ground, searching for any flaw which I can attack but before I could probe further, the monster was already making it's way to me, I had no choice but to fight it out with it.

Sliding between it's legs, I slashed it's calf, it let out a painful roar.

It stood, turned and faced me, then charged forward towards me, not holding back and bent on making me witness hell. I stood firm, getting ready to attack when the Cyclops suddenly stopped and kicked sand towards me, blinding me then it punched me with its massive fist, such cheap trick from a mindless beast.

I was sent flying by just one punch, landing with my back on the hard sand, I was plunged in the world of immense pain. The Cyclops slowly walked over like a proud king, lifted me to face as if to say 'I've got you now'

My instincts took over and I shoved my sword into its eye, it flung me away and I once again felt pain when I fell.

It kept raving madly and roaring, I managed to get a hold of myself, took my bloodied sword and dashed off to make sure it goes down. I slashed the calves over and over again making kick wildly while the gashes around it's legs was getting bigger, then down went the beast, I ran on top of it's body and then plunged my sword into its oesophagus, it gave one last gurgling sound and then it was dead.

The Colosseum was eerily silent as not even a baby cried, it was as if I had done something only the gods could do.

Suddenly about a dozen Roman soldiers marched down to the Arena with the Roman general and Caesar Marcus at the rear. The soldiers encircled me while the Caesar came and stood face to face with me.

"I pray thee child, tell me, what be thy name?" he said in a weird language.

"Mackintosh, Sir"

He smiled.

"I am told you are of no Roman birth, but yet ye have risked thy life for people ye know not, why? If I may ask."

This was a trick question but I kept a straight face.

"I just couldn't stand the injustice Sir, the Persians didn't propose a fair duel and when no one agreed to step up, I decided to."

He smiled making him seem like a benevolent Father.

"Tell me child, To which city thou belongs?"

I knew I couldn't tell them of my mission nor that I'm from the future, well, seem like I have to lie.

"My Lord, I am but a wanderer, searching for a place to begin anew, I am in Rome seeking to begin anew."

His smile vanished and I thought I had angered him or aroused his suspicion, but his next statement threw me off guard

"A man blessed by the gods, sent to Rome and delivered us from the Persians, what greater reward to bestow on the god's sent than to be a son of Marcus Augustus Aurelius, even I am unworthy to have you in my house, but I ask that you accept this."

WHAAAAAATTTT!!!!
