EPISODE 3: THE FIRST BATTLE

OUTSIDE, ON THE ROOF OF A HOUSE-THE SUN STARTS AND RISES

(After eating yūto says excitedly to itachi)

YŪTO

I didn't know you were so strong.

(itachi says with a smile)

ITACHI

Me neither.

(And he scratches the back of his head as he laughs mockingly, aiko tandem sitting next to yūto says in wonderment)

AIKO

What kind of creature was that?

(Itachi is startled and says in Wonder)

ITACHI

What, you don't know what that creature was?!

(The two children affirmatively shake their heads in opposition to itachi who replies skeptical)

ITACHI

Maybe they didn't get this far, maybe it's still early.

(Itachi again looks at the two children saying to them)

ITACHI

These creatures are called demons.

(Yūto surprised asks)

YŪTO

Demons?

(Aiko asks itachi)

AIKO

What are demons? Why did he attack us?

(Itachi says looking at the two children)

ITACHI

A long time ago there had been a war between men and demons. The Demons lost the war, but he promised they'd come back for revenge.

(aiko again asks itachi)

AIKO

Why was this war, could not all be done calmly and peacefully?

(Itachi looks at the rising sun as he tells aiko)

ITACHI

Unfortunately not everything is solved peacefully, demons are creatures of darkness. All they want is to eat and hunt people. They feed on your fear and make you bend to the truths of life. In this cunning way they destroy your dreams and peace of mind, so they can easily defeat you and devour you like wild animals.

(Yūto a little younger than itachi and aiko changes subject by saying)

YŪTO

Itachi you learned to fight, it was like karate!

(Itachi looks at yūto and responds with a smile as he also has his eyes closed)

ITACHI

By nature.

(Yūto is surprised and says with curiosity and admiration)

YŪTO

By nature?! Unbelievable, it's impossible!

(Itachi brings his head forward again watching the Rising Sun and says with a smile)

ITACHI

And yet nothing is impossible, remember that, my little friend. Nature is the greatest teacher you can find out there. You see, yūto, in the forest I stayed a long time, and every movement of her I observed. Nature is harmony as my father used to say, everything is made so that it is protected from its enemy and vice versa. This made a great impression on me, and I took an interest in continuing to observe it. As snakes make sharp and quick movements to attack their opponent while they are so calm and they only sting you with their gaze or birds that skilfully avoid the arrows of hunters. Even the flowers, when they feel fear or danger they gather the petals protecting themselves.

(Yūto full of admiration looks at itachi. Itachi asks yūto after a while)

ITACHI

We've had enough of me, yūto.

(Yūto is frightened and says anxious)

YŪTO

Me! What did I do?!

ITACHI

I had no idea you possessed the power of fire.

(Yūto says scratching his head)

YŪTO

Okay, hehe, it's not a remarkable hehee. Aiko has revealed to me that I do not belong here, I am different from you. I'm not a normal person because of my ears and my supernatural power. I don't know where I belong, but all I know is that I found myself in this beautiful place in a basket and met aiko as my family. But I love this, I'm having a great time and I wouldn't change them for anything in this world!

(Yūto looks at aiko. Aiko in turn says with a smile to yūto)

AIKO

I am proud of everything you say yūto. I like that you're my brother, too, and I wouldn't change you for anything in the world.

(Itachi smiles saying)

ITACHI

Now that I look at you again, I see your ears. Mmm now I understand, but yūto remember it doesn't matter at all how different you are to others, only how special you are to others.

(Yūto turns his gaze and looks in wonder at itachi saying)

YŪTO

(Itachi smiles and says)

ITACHI

(The sun has risen and the children stand up to see the Rising Sun. Aiko looks at yūto and says with a smile)

AIKO

Yūto we have to get home before mom knows.

(The children after they have descended from the roof of the old Japanese house walk. Itachi turns his back on the two children and says as he proceeds from the opposite side saying goodbye to yūto and aiko)

OUTDOOR AREA, INSIDE THE STREETS OF THE VILLAGE - DAY

ITACHI

And I'm leaving, I have to…

(But before he has time to finish his sentence aiko grasps his hand and with a smile as he pulls him says)

AIKO

We will not leave you alone, come with us hehe.

(Itachi running along with aiko through the streets of the village says)

ITACHI

I have work to finish, let me go!

(Then aiko as she pulls itachi and while running he looks behind her telling him with a smile)

AIKO

The job can wait, yes itachi?

(And she looks in front of her again, then itachi holding aiko's hand thinks with a smile on his lips)

ITACHI

This job certainly can wait.

(Yūto is a little ahead of aiko and itachi, so they get home running, yūto screams loudly)

OUTDOOR AREA, CLOSE TO HOME-DAY

YŪTO

Here we are, quick-quick, hurry!

(So with careful movements they open the door of the house and go in. Aiko and yūto are a little ahead of itachi, while itachi follows them into the House. At that moment the mother appears behind itachi and the children holding a knife. He then says with a horrified look at the three children)

INDOOR, INSIDE THE HOUSE-DAY

MOTHER

Where Have you been?

(Yūto and aiko are startled and turn their heads slowly backwards facing the mother. Aiko and yūto begin to sweat and "chew" their words. Then the mother comes in, closing the door behind her and with a stern look tells the two children)

MOTHER

Follow me, quick!

(Yūto and aiko bow their heads saying with sad look)

AIKO, YŪTO

Yes, ma'am.

(So they all sit around the table on the zabuton (座布団), the mother asks with a stern look)

INDOORS, AROUND THE TABLE-DAY

MOTHER

First, who is this kid?

YŪTO

He's a friend of ours, mom.

AIKO

His name is itachi.

ITACHI

It's nice to meet you in person.

(The mother looks at itachi and then at the two children)

MOTHER

Where Were you all the night?

AIKO

We went to give food to itachi, he was alone and helpless and…

(The mother gets up straight from the table and angrily tells the two children)

MOTHER

YOU WHAT?! DID YOU GO TO THE VILLAGE?! AT NIGHT?!

(The mother again sits in her seat and says grasping her head)

MOTHER

Thank god you're all right.

(Aiko says tentatively)

AIKO

Not all of us, expensive.

(Mother looks at her with one eye open and the other closed)

AIKO

Itachi was wounded as he was fighting a demon.

(Mother again with nerves and anxiety says)

MOTHER

What?! YOU WERE ATTACKED BY A DEMON! THAT'S WHY WE NEVER GO TO THE VILLAGE AT NIGHT, BECAUSE IT HAS THESE CREATURES THAT EAT PEOPLE! YOU COULD HAVE DIED. DO YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?! IT'S NOT A GAME!

(Yūto full of pride says)

YŪTO

Don't worry Mom, we were protected by Itachi who knows karate.

(Itachi sweats a little and says laughing mockingly)

ITACHI

Oh, yeah.

(The mother takes a long breath and in a calm voice tells the two children)

MOTHER

I wish that you understood your mistake and that it would not be repeated. I'm glad you're safe, but don't do that again, Yeah?

(The two children respond at the same time)

YŪTO

Yes, Mom, I'm sorry we worried you.

(Mother looks at itachi and says)

MOTHER

You wait here, I'll get the herbs.

(The mother leaves and goes to fetch the herbs, then itachi says with a smile)

ITACHI

Thank you very much.

(Yūto also replies with a smile)

YŪTO

No, no, don't be silly. Besides, we owe you itachi, you saved us.

(Itachi says with a smile)

ITACHI

No, yūto, I didn't save you.I saved you. Don't underestimate yourself, you would become a great demon hunter in the future.

YŪTO

What is demon hunter?

(The conversation stops when the mother appears with the herbs, lays the herbs on the table and starts mixing them. To pass the time mother asks itachi)

MOTHER

You have to be very brave to walk around the city at night. Don't you have a home to live in, itachi?

(Itachi responds as the mother takes the white bandage off him)

ITACHI

No, my village was burned down and all the inhabitants were slaughtered by these creatures.

(The mother stands a little motionless looking at itachi, not knowing what to say. So after a while she says with regret in her look)

MOTHER

Sorry, I didn't mean to…

(Then itachi replies reassuring her)

ITACHI

No, no, it's okay. It was on this occasion that I learned to live alone and to protect myself. I like to rely on my capabilities, it makes me stronger.

(Mother changes subject by saying)

MOTHER

That demon gave you a pretty big scratch. I can't heal it, but I'm gonna disinfect it so you don't get infected, okay? In time it will become a big scar, you're very lucky you didn't die.

(The mother takes from beside her a cloth dipped in a green liquid and tells itachi)

MOTHER

(And the mother begins to touch the cloth on itachi's wound. Itachi hardly hurts at all only in the end. The mother takes the mixture that consisted of pink and orange petals and puts them on the wound of itachi. When it's over, the mother says with a smile)

MOTHER

Finally, that was you ready.

(Aiko wraps the white bandage on itachi's body again and itachi looks around at aiko wrapping the bandage on him. In the end itachi comes out of the House saying with a smile on his lips)

OUTDOOR SPACE, JUST OUTSIDE THE HOUSE-DAY

ITACHI

Thank you, if it wasn't for you I don't know what I would have done or what would have happened to me. I'd rather not think about it.

(And makes a curtsey)

MOTHER

You sure you don't want to stay here with us? We have enough room for one more person.

(Itachi smiles and shakes his head negatively)

ITACHI

No, no, you've done enough for me. Besides, I want to travel and find myself. Maybe I'll come visit you again on a day like this.

YŪTO

Whenever you want, we'll be here waiting for you.

(Aiko approaches itachi and gives him a pink flower. Itachi looks at it, then again looks aiko in the eyes. Aiko says with a smile on her lips}

AIKO

Take this with you to remember us, think it's a good luck charm. It will bring you good luck, I hope.

(Itachi smiles and puts it inside the white bandage over his chest where the heart lies, and says with reddened face and shyly)

ITACHI

Thank you, aiko. I'll keep an eye on it.

(Aiko kisses itachi on the cheek and walks away. Itachi does not move from his position but it does not take long to turn his back and start walking a little reddened. Mother yells at itachi as he walks away)

MOTHER

Take care, itachi!

YŪTO

Bon voyage itachi!

(Aiko does not speak only she looks with a smile at itachi as she has a little blush. Itachi while walking thinks with a smile)

ITACHI

I'm not going to leave, we're going to stick together, I promise you. Aiko, yūto.

(After a few days aiko and yūto stand in front of their mother who is sewing a garment in the yard of the House)

OUTDOOR AREA, IN THE YARD OF THE HOUSE-AFTERNOON

AIKO

Mom, can we go walk by the river?

(mother caresses the two children)

MOTHER

Don't just be late.

(So the two children start and run screaming)

AIKO, YŪTO

We'RE leaving!

(As the two children run by the river the sun sets. Aiko and yūto again see the boys ' company. When the boys approach, a child tells the chief)

OUTDOOR AREA, BY THE RIVER-AFTERNOON AS THE SUN SETS

Look, look! That kid with the weird ears is here again.

(The chief smiles slyly)

LEADER

It's our lucky day guys, it's time to take revenge on this monster and show him who's in charge here.

(When the children get too close aiko and yūto start talking to them)

LEADER

Monster here again! This place is only for us, you don't belong here, go!

(Aiko steps in front of yūto and says with vigor)

AIKO

You don't own the river, the river is for everyone.

(Children start and laugh, while one child says as he laughs)

Hahaaaaaa, that's a good joke.

Child # 3

Yeah, yeah, we laughed today, too.

Child # 6

I like that he thinks so, too.

(Then the chief approaches yūto and says in an ironical tone)

LEADER

Fight me! Show me your true strength, monster! If you can beat me, you win the river. But if I beat you, you'll be out of here forever! You will disappear from this village.

(Yūto does nothing but remain in his place. Then the leader starts and pushes him while the rest of the children have caught aiko so that he does not interfere. Aiko cries)

AIKO

Leave him alone. you hear me, you monster!

(The chief shouts)

LEADER

Fight me, fight me bastard! You fucking worm, FIGHT ME!

(At the end he pushes yūto into the river. Yūto falls into the river while aiko keeps shouting. Then he says, " I don't want to get out of the river.")

YŪTO

No! I won't fight you.

(The chief looks at him curiously and says)

LEADER

FIGHT WITH MONSTERS! FIGHT WITH USELESS TRASH!

(And he makes a motion to strike his face. The chief's Fist has come very close to yūto, but it does not strike him because itachi jumps up and seizes his hand. All the kids are surprised and one of the kids says scared)

Child # 4

The weird kid from the city.

(Itachi pushes the chief by making him go a few steps back)

ITACHI

Beat it! Turn around, kid. this isn't a playground.

(And he gives his hand to yuto to help him get up. After itachi lifts yūto from the river the chief says with surprise on his face)

LEADER

Huh! What are you doing, helping a monster?!

(Itachi looks at the chief and half smiles, saying)

ITACHI

If he's a monster, then what are you? Stupid, someone would say, or trash. Probably something worse, mud worm!

(At that moment a complete silence is created and everyone is amazed, then a child's voice is heard talking to another saying)

Child # 5

No one has called him an idiot except him, he will kill him.

(Leader says angry)

LEADER

WHAT DID YOU SAY?!

(Itachi repeats it as he has his hand on his head and blows it lightly to make fun of him)

ITACHI

I said You're an idiot, actually, so you don't understand for sure you're an idiot. Stupid, stupid, worm. Good grief.

(The leader with nerves and voices answers)

LEADER

I'LL KILL YOU!

(And attacking itachi, itachi fends off the chief's fist, and seizing him by the collar of his blouse, lifts him aloft. So with a horrified look says itachi)

ITACHI

I don't want to see you teasing weak children again, especially yūto. Go away and leave my friend alone, am I clear, you idiot?

(Itachi leaves the chief. The Chief falls to the ground. With terror on their face they start all the children running away while yūto happy tells itachi)

YŪTO

Itachi you're here!

(Itachi smiles, at the same time Aiko approaches him and with an ironic look asks him)

AIKO

Does it look like you haven't left, or am I wrong?

(Itachi looks at aiko and says with a smile)

ITACHI

That's right, aiko. I wanted to leave but something was holding me back. Finally I decided to stay and never abandon you, because aiko everything you love you have to protect it too.

(Yūto with joy says)

YŪTO

Yeah, you're gonna stay with us, we're gonna have a great time, I promise. We'll play every day and eat together, and before the sun goes down we'll take a walk by the river.

(Itachi says to yūto with a serious look)

ITACHI

Yūto, you must have misunderstood and it is wrong of me to give you false hopes. I will not stay at home with you, I want to live

alone in the village chasing demons and protecting you from them. That nothing

(Yūto with sad look says)

YŪTO

Well, I understand very well what you mean.

(Itachi turns his back and takes a step to leave, but before leaving he turns his head and looks at yūto telling him with a smile)

ITACHI

But we can not skip the walks by the river all together. It doesn't mean that just because I live alone we can't be friends.

(Yūto's gaze at once changes to a happy gaze)

YŪTO

Yeah, great lol.

(Yūto starts running up to Itachi while aiko walks beside Itachi. After many days the two children, yūto and aiko play chase in the yard of the House)

OUTDOOR AREA, IN THE YARD OF THE HOUSE-DAY

AIKO

You're not gonna catch me ha haha hahahahahahahaha.

(Cries aiko with her head turned, looking at yūto. Yūto runs after her trying to catch her and he yells)

YŪTO

You think so.

(The two children play carelessly, until aiko enters the forest so yūto follows her, until his mother's words come to his mind "never go to the forest, it is dangerously similar to the village at night" so when aiko stops running yūto approaches her. Aiko wearily sits on the ground while yūto catches her by Omo. Aiko laughs)

OUTDOORS, IN THE FOREST-DAY

AIKO

You caught me lol.

(But yūto with a look of horror whispers in aiko's ear)

YŪTO

We have to get out of here.

(Aiko looks in wonder at yūto and asks)

AIKO

Why, what's the matter yūto?

(At that moment a man emerges from the forest)

DEMON

Well, well. What have we got here, are you guys lost? Can I help you in any way?

(And he smiles slyly, but yūto O replies)

YŪTO

No, no, thank you we're going home now, we know the way there thank you for your kindness.

DEMON

I don't doubt that, little Hebe.

(And she smiles more this time. With his smile you can see two big pointed teeth on the sides of his mouth)

THE FLASHBACK BEGINS:

(Yūto sits outside the house and looks at the forest. The mother who passes by holding a wooden basin that has white sheets sees yūto and on occasion approaches him, asks him with a smile on her lips)

MOTHER

How beautiful the forest is, yyūto don't you agree?

MOTHER

But the forest hides dangers.

(Yūto looks with wonder at his mother and asks her)

YŪTO

What dangers can a beautiful place like this have? Answer me, Mom.

(His mother caresses his head and answers him in a sweet voice)

MOTHER

Swear to me that you will never get into the woods. Swear to me.

(Yūto agrees but where the mother turns to leave yūto shouts)

YŪTO

TELL ME WHY?!

(So the mother stops walking and turning to yūto, approaches him and sits down again beside him saying)

MOTHER

The demons apart from the village that appear in the night hours lurk in the forest. Although it is morning and the sun is shining over our heads the Demons are hiding in the forest waiting to attack their next prey.

(The mother looks into the forest as she continues to say)

MOTHER

Don't be fooled by their disguise, many demons of them are people with some hidden traits that betray them to be demons. One of them is their sharp teeth.

(And the mother shows her teeth to yūto)

MOTHER

Still, it's their sharp claws and eyes that have a different color that's not normal to us humans, so be careful, yeah?

RETURN FROM THE FLASHBACK OF THE PAST:

OUTDOORS, IN THE FOREST-DAY

(And stretching out his hand yūto cries)

YŪTO

Aiko, stay away from him!

AIKO

AAAAA!

(The face of the demon changes and turns into the face of a dog with strange horns on its head. The demon jumps with one hand and grabs aiko and after he has grabbed aiko he climbs on a thick branch of a tree, then says with a demon look)

DEMON

Hahahahahahaha, nice try, kid, but you failed. Well, the kid was gonna make a nice morning, What do you think, kid? Hahahahahahaha!

(And he starts scratching aiko's face with his sharp claws, meanwhile aiko screams)

AIKO

LET ME GO, LET ME GO, LET ME GO PLEASE, PLEASE!

(aiko starts crying while yūto falls to the ground, desperately trying to find a solution but in vain)

YŪTO

What to... What do I do? What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! Damn it, I couldn't even protect my sister right now... Now he's gonna die because of me, damn it! DAMN YOU FOR A MONSTER!

(Sweat falls from his face along with tears, while the demon says with Demon look)

DEMON

Say good-bye to this girl boy, for you will never see her again in your life.

(The demon raises his hand to pierce aiko's head, while aiko alongside yells)

AIKO

No! No! No! No! YŪTO SAVE ME!

(Yūto shudders and at once assumes an attitude of attack. He brings his left leg back and his body forward, he thinks)

YŪTO

No! Nothing is lost yet! I can, I can beat him and save my sister! I just want the power. I need the power! You, spirit, push me to run! PUSH ME!

(So his father appears behind yūto, stretches out his hand and leans him back on his back saying to him in a serene voice)

FATHER

Run, my little hero.

(Yūto sharply opens his eyes and twists his leg. So with force making puddle in the ground he hurls himself towards the demon. Yūto has come very close to the demon and opens his palm, from there comes the purple fire, then closes the palm creating fist with his hand and the fire spreads all over his hand up to his elbow, angry cries)

YŪTO

NO ONE WILL HURT MY SISTER! AS LONG AS I LIVE AND BREATHE I WILL PROTECT HER AT ALL COSTS OF MY OWN LIFE.

(The demon from there who has raised his hand to pierce aiko's head looks straight at yūto coming like lightning towards him. His smile fades from his face and surprised, frightened says)

DEMON

What! Is it not possible?!

(Yūto brings back his hand and with strength again brings it forward striking the demon in the face. The demon's head is blown off and he forcefully hits a tree, then falls to the ground. The sound of the demon's head beating against the tree and then down on the ground is heard. Aiko falls to the ground and yūto terrified runs beside her asking her)

YŪTO

Are you okay, aiko? TALK TO ME! TALK TO ME, AIKO!

(Aiko looking at yūto and grasping the point he has hit says)

AIKO

I'm fine. don't worry.everything's fine.

(Aiko while she has a few tears in her eyes says)

AIKO

I thought I was going to die. I felt a cold wind blow through my body, I was so close to death.

(Aiko cries, can't hold back the tears and fear and starts crying, yūto hugs her saying)

YŪTO

I wasn't gonna let you die. I'm here no matter what.

(After a while, aiko looks at yuto's hand. Straight with anxiety responds to yūto)

YŪTO

Yūto thy hand, thy fire!

(Yūto steps back a few steps in terror lest he burn aiko. Then while he has raised his hand and observes it says as the fire changes to color black)

YŪTO

What's that? That's not my fire! My fire has a different color and this one is black, why? WHAT'S GOING ON?!

(The demon with his head cut off as it evaporates in powder form tells him in a demon style)

DEMON

You have one of the strongest powers and you don't know what it is?! Hahahahaha, at last this power has been waiting for us for years, my Lord hahahahaha! Now that I'm dead, everyone will know about you and the special power we've always sought until now.

(Yūto looks at the demon while the demon continues saying)

DEMON

I thought all demi people were dead, but I made a tragic mistake now that I see you again.

(Suddenly a pain makes yūto cry out)

YŪTO

Oh, it hurts. Aah! MY HEAD HURTS, IT HURTS! Aah! I WANT TO DIE OF PAIN!

(Yūto begins to bend and fall to the ground with knees, aiko who can not get up cries)

AIKO

YŪTO!

(The demon laughs satanically saying)

DEMON

Yes! Yes! Yes, Yes! Yes! Remember haha! Remember the horror, feel the pain, drown in the darkness and the black veil that wraps you slowly and painfully.

(Yūto hurts more and more until he falls to the ground, aiko screams)

AIKO

YŪTO!

(With tears in his eyes and with shouts He tells The Demon)

AIKO

Stop! STOP IT! DO SOMETHING TO STOP IT HURTING! I CAN'T WATCH HIM SUFFER AND I CAN'T HELP HIM! PLEASE! PLEASE, DEMON! DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR ONCE IN YOUR LIFE! PLEASE!

(The demon laughing satanically replies to aiko)

DEMON

Hahahaha alone has to fight the demons inside him. I can't do anything, but even if I wanted to, I couldn't help him. He alone must tame his demons. He is the master of himself, not me.

(Yūto is lying on the ground screaming. Until the moment comes when he calms down, he rises slowly with his back to aiko, aiko looks at him and with anxiety in her gaze asks)

AIKO

Are you okay? Yūto?

(Then yūto turns his head towards aiko. Aiko sees him having white eyes and is more frightened. Yūto is a monster. Yūto slowly approaches aiko with the Black fire in his hand while aiko cries)

AIKO

Yūto, yūto!

AIKO

YŪTO WAKE UP, WAKE UP! I'M YOUR SISTER, DON'T YOU RECOGNIZE ME? YŪTO! YŪTO!

(Yūto sees in his mind a village burning, approaches and sees many demi people and demi children killed in blood and many of them are without arms or legs or even heads. Yūto stoops to see from what they have been mutilated, in people he sees large scratches and bites, he thinks)

OUTER SPACE, {HOLY PLACE} IN THE RUINED VILLAGE OF YUTO-DAY

YŪTO

What happened here, where am I?

(As soon as he takes a deep breath to get up from the ground he stays still and memories come to his mind. Image like: the demon who scratched aiko. Then he gets up from the ground and as he looks ahead he says)

YŪTO

It's probably demons.

(But one cry piques his interest. It sounded from the distance, in the smoke)

DEMI MAN

AAAAAAAAAAAA! (wae cry)

(Yūto sees a yellow color in the smoke and then blood spurts out of the smoke. He lights his fire and waits to see what is behind the smoke, so when the smoke leaves a demi man appears. In his hands is a yellow fire as the dead demons lay on the ground around the man. Yūto is stunned. When the man turns his head he faces yūto. He does not speak, so does O yūto, only a gentle breeze winds the man's ragged clothes and yūto's clothes. Until ... until the gentle breeze stops and the man responds)

FATHER

We meet again once more, yūto ... my son.

(Yūto is startled by taking a sharp breath from his mouth)
