The next morning, Alex and his two young companions had breakfast at the guild. He didn't want to have to make breakfast every day and found great amusement in Mira's tortur..*cough* *cough* waking the guild members too drunk to make it back home the night before. It was a free show with breakfast and Alex was starting to wonder if he was developing a sadistic side.
Laxus and his group showed up at one point, though they didn't stay long. They had apparently been tasked with an emergency S-class request by the master and were just making final preparations. It sounded like they would also miss the parade, though none of them seemed torn up about it.
The relationship between Laxus and the rest of the guild had improved immensely since his operation and his attitude had mellowed down a bit too. He still wasn't a social butterfly by any means but he also didn't go out of his way to insult or bully any of them as well. He seemed to be putting an effort into at least greeting the few members he passed, making himself seem more approachable.
The 'thunder god tribe' were still a little awkward around Alex, though that was probably because neither side took any steps to rectify the awkwardness. They didn't dislike each other, it just seemed like mutual indifference.
As they were leaving, Bickslow commented about Alex's soul being "very bizarre" and asked if he could try to manipulate it. Alex just shrugged and told him to go ahead, he was also curious what the soul Wizard could do to his soul. As it turns out, nothing. He couldn't interact with it at all.
Neither of them knew if it was just because Alex was so much more powerful than Bickslow, but Alex didn't care enough to hash out the fine details. He was just glad to know that his soul was apparently 'off-limits' to soul mages.
Alex spent the rest of the day Lazing around on the sofas in the S-class waiting area, trying to create a device he could store a lot of music on while keeping it small and portable, he was starting to miss all his songs from a lifetime ago.
Wendy and Liam had teamed up to do a couple small quests around the city, Alex let them go alone because none of the requests would take them out of the city. It took him a few trial and errors to get a product he was happy with, his end result looking an awful lot like the fourth generation ipod touch.
Though its only function was to play music, he couldn't take pictures with it. He figured it probably wouldn't be too hard to add that function, but didn't care right now, he had music to listen too.
It took him longer to think of and add all the songs he wanted, than it had to create the device, but in the end it was worth it. 'It sure makes you appreciate those apps where you can get whole albums at a time' He thought as he finished up.
He had started with only instrumental music for the time being. Getting songs from many different groups that he had enjoyed in his past life, like, Two steps from hell, Lindsey Stirling, Apocalyptica and even a few instrumental songs by 5FDP. He had many other artists he wanted to add as well but settled for just the ones he could remember with good music without lyrics.
This device was a trial run and he figured it would be easier to explain unknown music if he didn't have to name a specific (Fictional to this world) vocalist. The music itself could probably just be chalked up to 'magic!' and that would be the end of it.
Once everything was complete he didn't waste any time playing some music. The device was loud enough that the rest of the guild could hear it and it didn't take long before Mira came up to see what was going on.
"What is that?" she asked curiously while pointing at the music player. "Just figured out how to make something that can hold multiple songs while remaining tiny and easy to use" Alex replied from his position on the sofa. "Can you make me one?" Mira asked after a couple minutes of cycling through the stored music.
As an avid lover of music herself, Mira was fascinated by the music device. They had music players in this world already but they were usually limited to one artist/music type and couldn't hold very many songs. (A/N. I know Laxus is shown to always be listening to music, but the only thing I could find about it is that he is a fan of classic rock. So I am kinda spit-balling here).
Alex chuckled at the Girl who seemed to have completely forgotten about him. He sat up and took the device back. Mira had a cute pout on her face until he told her he would have one for her tomorrow, but this one was his.
Alex left the guild and headed home, the parade was tomorrow and everyone was abuzz with excitement. He idly wondered if the parade would be more exciting this time around because most of the members weren't injured. The 'battle of Fairytail' hadn't happened and wouldn't happen.
Alex was half way back to his house when he remembered the beauty/talent show that was going to be happening this evening. 'Damn! Got to make sure I don't miss that. I don't know if I could ever forgive myself if I did!' he thought as a big smile appeared on his face.
There were quite a few, very attractive women in the guild and he wouldn't be a real man if he didn't go show his support. 'Yup, that's what I'm doing! Supporting a good cause' he thought as he turned back around and headed back to the guild.
He Joined Cana, Wakaba and Macao at their table in the front row for a few drinks before the show started. It quickly turned into a drinking contest that was actually pretty short lived since Cana was participating in the talent show later.
The atmosphere in the guild was very lively and the usual rowdy crowd were actually taking something serious for once, though if it was to appreciate the beauties that were going to be gracing the stage or just the sheer terror Erza's presence seemed to instill into them was unknown.
Liam and Wendy came and greeted him before running off with Macao's son Romeo. They all seemed to get along really well and Romeo even seemed to be developing a small rivalry with Liam. It wasn't quite to the level of Gray and Natsu, but they still seemed to use each other as a drive to get stronger and not lose to the other.
Alex was introduced to a wizard he had never met before, his name was Warren Rocko and he used telepathy magic. Alex greeted him kindly but they didn't spend much time talking to each other. Just when Alex thought the guild members were rowdy enough to start a brawl, the lights dimmed and Max Alors, another Wizard Alex only met recently, started to announce the contestants.
Cana was called up first and almost missed her turn as she was still too involved in drinking to listen to Max. Cana went on stage, and sent her deck of cards twirling all around her before changing into a swimsuit. The crowd went wild at the half naked beauty and the lively atmosphere increased again.
Next up was the new girl, Juvia Lockser. She let her water magic flow wildly before also changing into a swimsuit. Again the crown went wild, but Juvia seemed to only have eyes for Gray.
Mira was up next, but stunned the entire crowd with a prank by changing faces, ruining all their hopes of seeing her in a swimsuit. Alex knew it was coming from the Anime and was only slightly disappointed before laughing with Happy at the shocked faces of the crowd.
Erza came next, and equally stunned the crowd but in a much better way. She re-equipped into a gothic lolita outfit driving the regulars crazy with the show.
Next was Levy, she put on a show of her magic without changing into a swimsuit.
Biska Connell was next, she made a very impressive shot with her rifle while also wearing a bikini.
Lucy came out in a rush, stopping Max from saying her last name before doing a tasteful cheer with Virgo while one of her lesser spirits, Lyra the Harp, played music for them. It was impressively performed and she had a real shot at the prize, especially because Virgo surprised her by swapping her into a maid themed bikini at the end of their dance.
Alex was too drunk to remember the names of the remaining girls that came out to participate in the contest but he definitely enjoyed the show.
The contest carried on late into the evening and Lucy was announced the winner. Her performance and Virgo's ambush having made a very memorable combination for the judges. The rest of the night was spent partying and Alex stumbled home in very high spirits.
Alex was up early the next morning as per usual, he completed his morning routine and set to making breakfast. When breakfast was complete he headed to his living room, It was an errant thought, but he wanted to see if he could make remotely activated fire-works.
He knew the wizards would be putting on a show during the parade, but still wanted to end it all with a bang. He hadn't told anyone about this so if it worked it would be a surprise for his fellow guild members as well.
Creating the fireworks themselves had been relatively easy, figuring out the remote activation not so much. If he was just going to create one box and one remote, it would be simple, but he wanted to have fireworks shoot out from multiple different areas of the city to cover the entire sky with the finale.
It took him a while to work out the bugs in the remote but he eventually got it to a point he was happy with. Pressing different buttons on the remote would activate different boxes, giving the conductor complete control over the frequency and type of firework shot at one time.
There was also a big red button at the bottom labeled FINALE! He wouldn't have bothered to label them if he himself was going to be shooting them off, but since he was going to be in the parade he had planned to let Liam be the conductor for this event.
The parade started at the Cardia Cathedral and went through the busiest streets of the city while making its way to fairytails guildhall, marking the end of the parade. He would get Liam to start setting off fireworks as soon as the guildhall came into view of the procession, it would be close to over at that point causing the fireworks to not steal the show from the parade instead it would augment it and give the people that were further away, a continued show.
He would let Liam have free rein over the frequency and type until the last float had made it to the guild hall, then he would press the red button. Alex spent the rest of the morning running around the city placing his 'presents' on different rooftops and areas they wouldn't be located or taken.
When he got back to his house, Liam was just leaving to go find a place to watch the parade. Alex explained everything to him that he had planned and Liam was very excited to participate. They split up shortly after, Liam to go find a good spot to watch and Alex to join Mira and Elfman on their float.
The start of the parade was a loud and chaotic affair, the sounds of the cheers and sheer abundance of magic going around the place was almost enough to electrify the air. Mira, Elfman and Alex all took turns being center stage while they showed off their transformations and cast simple magic spells to entertain the crowd.
Whenever they would pass a group of youngsters or people being a bit too rowdy, Alex and/or Elfman would let out Loud roars that would momentarily scare people stiff.
Wendy was walking with Natsu and Gajeel, the three of them occasionally using their dragon slayer magic to awe the crowd.
The parade was half over when the first fireworks started, they started closer to the cathedral where the parade had long passed. The fireworks were simple but beautiful. Sometimes they were just classics with random flashy colors but most of them exploded into an noticeable image.
There were giant stars that burst into yet more stars and raced across the sky, Flowers that dissolved into blossoms and floated through the crowd and many times the fairytail symbol also made an appearance in the sky usually followed by a very loud explosion(Just noise) to draw one's attention.
Alex's float had just made it to the guild building when he heard multiple fireworks go off at once. Looking back at the 4 floats bringing up the rear he couldn't help but chuckle "Looks like he jumped the gun and hit the finale early eh?" he said out loud while staring at the show in the sky.
"What do you mean by that? Was this your doing Alex?" Mira asked from beside him as she too was staring at the sky. "Kinda, but it was supposed to be delayed a bit more. The people this close to the guild are going to miss the last 4 floats because their eyes are glued to the sky" he replied with a light laugh.
"Somehow I feel like they wont even be upset" Mira responded with a small smile, her eyes still drawn to the very colorful display lighting up the evening sky of Magnolia. All different manner of fireworks were going off all over Magnolia, instead of taking away from each other they seemed to compliment and draw your eyes all over the sky.
As the display started winding down and came to an end, there was one last colorful burst of light that appeared many times larger than the others. When the lights from the burst died out slightly the sky was filled with colorful flowing script accented by magnolia blossoms and fairytails symbol on each side 'Magnolia X784 Harvest Festival'.
Not gonna lie, I would love to see a fireworks show even close to that.
Enjoy.
