Deafening

When it’s so silent it’s loud. High school seems to disagree Haru as everything is loud. The students, their sports, their arguments, their lies and their problems. They’re so clear it’s hard to watch. It’s hard to watch everything crumble into pieces. Especially when you can help. So should Haru stop being silent? (Disclaimer: Words in ‘’ are words Haru can read and words in “” are words Haru can’t hear)

Screams of Pain and Joy

I stood frozen in place. The student council president stared right back. My mouth slightly opened to talk yet they all choked me instead. It couldn't breathe.

"Is that true?..." She eased her fist and brushed her long hair back. After awhile she nodded in my direction. I gaged but kept my vomit inside.

"Why would they? That's horrible" She nodded in agreement.

I sat down beside the wall and thought about if that would happen to Aoi. I shivered and gritted my teeth in disgust and anger. The president seeing how I sat down joined me while I looked at her in surprise.

'It was was the seniors. My past friends, thinking that I'm too high and might decided to bring me down. Also maybe because they wanted my position too. But I couldn't prove that. They started to bully and pick on me, but I persisted. I endured everything and got the position where I am, and once I gained it, everything kept getting worse.

The abuse and online taunts. The way they all whispered about me and the way I had no friends. The way they trashed my locker and framed me for every wrong. The way they would meet me after school...'

The president slumped down and I looked at her with a complicated face. "My name is Haru..."

'No last name?' I sighed and shook my head. She politely didn't ask anything which I'm grateful for.

"My name is Yamamoto Akari"

"What was that?"

'Ugh, I guess you really are a bad listener' She grabbed a notepad from her pocket and put her hand near mine. Knowing what she meant, I opened my bag and gave her a pen and she wrote her name, but not only her name.

"Why do I have your number?" She shrugged.

'Just felt like it. If you need some help or know the boys that tried that on me, call!' She stood up and walked away while I had a piece of paper with her name and number.

How did this happen?

...

'Where were you!' Aoi didn't bother doing it in sign language.

"I'm sorry" I rubbed the bag of my head and then hugged her, but she just pushed me away and walked in the direction of home.

"Ugh! If only I didn't meet her"

Catching up to Aoi I thought of an idea and pulled her towards a local supermarket.

'Wait, does that mean...?' I smiled and nodded towards her.

'YEAAHHHH, time for big brother's fried chicken!' I chuckled and paid for some ingredients for the chicken. I sighed and frowned as I looked at my balance on my phone, but hid it as soon as Aoi came up to me.

"What's up?" She only smiled and came closer to me. As she looked up at me, she gestured for me to listen. So I bent down and put my ear towards her.

Only to feel a soft kiss on my cheek? Looking at the blushing Aoi, I giggled quietly to myself.

'I forgive you' She hurriedly took my arm and dragged me back whilst I had a smile plastered on my face the entire time.

"I love you too Aoi" I ruffled her hair and we went home.

...

*BEEP* *BEEP* *BEEP* *BE-

I hit my alarm clock and arose out of my slumber. Well, not really. I was already awake, but I can't be bother checking if my alarm goes off or not so I just stay in bed until it does. It's not like I could hear it anyways. So why do I do this?

"AOI, WAKE UP!" So I know what time to yell Aoi to wake up.

I start showering and once I finish, I put on my school uniform as I go to the kitchen. Cleaning up from last nights 'party' I start making breakfast and our lunch. Simple rice, omelet and fish for breakfast, and onigiri for lunch.

As I prepare two plates for us, a fuzzy haired Aoi comes from her room looking like her hair got zapped or something.

"Aoi, shower and brush your hair. It's stinks!"

She yawns and slowly carries on walking to the shower.

"Faster or else you won't get breakfast or lunch!"

That seemed to get the adrenaline pumping as she fully wakes and and sprints to shower. I sigh and wonder how good my food actually is?

As Aoi comes out of the shower dressed and ready to go, we start eating and pack our lunches. Even though I don't make much, Aoi cherishes all of the food and eats with a satisfying face every bite.

Going out of our apartment, we head to school once more.

Passing a park, the train tracks, my workplace and that small tea shop, we finally reach our school. As we entered through the gates, we were welcomed to the sight of a single boy being beat up by Yamamoto and the sounds of screams and delight. I hurriedly gave my bag to Aoi and rushed to the fight.

Surprisingly, everybody was crowding around the fight but did nothing. They were just staring.

I push my way through the crowd and saw more of of the state of the boy.

They're weren't just one of them either, there was 7 more bleeding boys. All of them were bleeding from the face. As the final boy was about to get punched in the face once more, I rushed to the centre and lift up Yamamoto and drag her away.

Yamamoto was so confused she didn't even resist and let me drag her away from the boys.

"Calm down and what the hell?" The crowd started to get big but with one glance from Yamamoto's eyes, they all hurried along their way, even Aoi.

"Now will you tell me?" She just scoffed.

'And how do you have that privilege to be told?'

"I don't know, the privilege of being a human? You don't need a privilege to want to know why you beat up a couple of students in the front of the school?" She rolled her eyes.

'They were the boys that tried to **** me' My stomach tightened and I flinched.

"You know, instead of beating them up, they could be brought to the police and be sent to prison for at least 3 years? Not...whatever this is" She groaned and prove out of my hold.

'You don't know anything'

"That's why I'm asking!?" She stopped for a second and turned back to me.

'What do you know about being impaired?' I deeply sighed and swallowed my pride.

"I don't know much"

'Well it's horrible, it's horrible to be accused and bullied because your born a certain way. The they mock you and push you around to the ground' My chest tightened with every word, but I kept silent.

'It's not that I'm physically impaired...'

"What is it...?"

'My mother killed my father'
