A mask of indifference clouded Effer's features, but the heavy tone of her voice stated otherwise.
This didn't bode well.
"She will be a problem, won't she?" I muttered.
"It depends," Effer answered, not saying anything else. She seemed hesitant to give me more information, and this only increased my unease.
I was about to ask her what she could tell me about Fashire's mother when she spoke up.
"You will meet her in due time, but do be cautious around her. And most importantly, if she asks you a question, do not give her a direct answer. Not in any circumstances. If you're with Fashire or any other noble, you don't have to answer her when she talks. Let them be a mouthpiece for you."
The bottom line was that I shouldn't engage in conversation with her?
"Why?" I was stunned.
"She's deceptive. It's that simple, and if you are not careful, you will find yourself owing her 'favours'."
