Chapter 17

"Diomedes, meet my friend, Steve Trevor, the leader of A.R.G.U.S.,"

Diana said that and smiled gently.

"My angel, when you call me a friend, it sounds like we have a secret affair."

Steve gave Diana a playful teasing gesture before reaching out to shake my hand.

"Pleased to meet you, Diomedes."

Steve said.

"Nice to meet you too,"

Dio also shook his hand.

Steve was a strong man, a blond with the typical military haircut and blue eyes. He wore army camouflage pants and a simple white shirt with a military logo on his neck.

Dio expected to meet him eventually after Diana took him as her apprentice, but not this soon.

"Welcome to A.R.G.U.S. Let's go; allow me to be your guide for today."

Steve said that and led him on a tour.

On the way, Steve explained to him about the Armed Revolutionaries Governing Under Secrecy, or simply "Anonymous Ranger Group of the USA."

They were officially established after the first attack by Darkseid a year ago.

Their role was to support superheroes in the USA.

In other words, they helped any hero or group of heroes in any way they could, and they were also responsible for containing or investigating metahuman activities.

Steve had been leading this organization since it was established.

To be honest, Dio didn't know about this, even with his knowledge of this world; it was almost impossible to remember all the existing organizations.

Steve showed him around.

This place had everything, from labs that studied the diseases or poisons that villains used on people to a whole floor that was used to make plans for how to stop a possible second Darkseid invasion.

Dio almost laughed when he heard that.

When Dio walked through the building, he saw people wearing what looked like cybernetic suits, with only their heads showing.

This was different from the soldiers and pilots outside, who were wearing jumpsuits. He also saw some weapons that looked like they were from the future.

It made sense; this organization was facing dangers from superhuman beings directly, so they needed a lot of technological help.

He saw drones going back and forth that looked like small planes.

The technologies in this world were simply insane compared to his previous world. These technologies could easily kill him if he wasn't very careful.

Finally, Dio was led into a room used for Diana's personal training.

Diana was the one who got the most help from A.R.G.U.S., so it made sense that she had a few rooms here, even though she didn't seem to use them at all, since everything in this room looked brand new.

"We'll train here. The room is strengthened, so we don't need to hold back."

Diana said that and pointed to the setup.

"When do we start?"

Dio asked.

"Tomorrow, but the schedule can change due to my duties. Steve will assist with transportation to get you here when it's time for training."

Diana replied.

"Thank you,"

Dio said and looked at Steve, who stood in the doorway.

"You're welcome, buddy,"

Steve smiled in response.

"Tomorrow, we'll start training with the sword and shield, and then we'll figure out what your unique abilities are and how to control them. I also have an idea on how to train your magical abilities."

Diana continued.

As if the news about him being a demigod weren't enough, Batman also told him that his mother was a magician.

They belong to a parallel line of evolution that separates them from Homo sapiens. Dio remember little about them.

The most important thing is that they are born with the ability to manipulate mana as well as a unique type of magic; they can also learn other types of magic without using methods ordinary people use to create magic, such as special rituals or artifacts.

This means Dio is naturally drawn to a certain kind of magic. He should be able to do it easily, but he hasn't tried it yet.

Dio knows that magic is very dangerous and that powerful spells cost something. He can't miss this chance to learn it, since Diana is giving it to him.

"What's the idea?"

Dio asked curiously.

"My friend is interested in you, but she's busy with her presentations right now, so we'll have to wait a few months."

Diana replied.

Dio didn't mind waiting a few months for the opportunity to learn magic.

"That's where you've been! Diana, it's rude of you to take on your first student and not introduce me when you bring him here."

A female voice drew his attention at the entrance to the room.

From behind Steve, a dark-skinned woman with very short hair appeared and was dressed in a gray suit.

"Sister, it's good to see you back."

Diana said that and hugged the woman.

"I was cleaning up Texas after a sorcerer; I just got back."

She said that, broke free from Diana's hug, and smiled at him.

"Aren't you going to introduce me?"

She asked and looked at me.

"Of course, this is Diomedes Inwood, my new student. Dio, this is Etta Candy, the second friend I made when I came to this country."

"Pleasure to meet you, Miss Candy."

Dio reached out his hand, but she hugged him instead of shaking his hand.

"You're so adorable, just like an adult,"

She said as she swung him from side to side.

"Etta, please, let go of the boy; he's a demigod, not a mortal."

A voice came from Steve and made Etta release him.

"I'm sorry for that; I was just a bit excited that Diana took a student."

Etta said, and Dio noticed that Diana was frowning.

"Why?"

Dio asked, even though he could see that Diana didn't like this topic.

"Not that I never wanted to have a student, but I've never liked the idea that we, heroes, train children to fight villains. Too much can go wrong."

Diana replied.

"I know there's a risk, Diana, but I'm still glad you have someone who can understand you."

Etta said it with a smile.

"I'm here, you know, Etta? Right next to her,"

Steve said.

"I didn't know divine blood flowed in your veins, Steve. My apologies."

Etta joked.

"Let's stop fooling around. Julia is hosting a dinner in honor of this event; I think we'd better not be late, and both of you are invited as well."

Diana ended their conversation with these words.

They left the A.R.G.U.S. headquarters and headed to Dio's new home.
