Chapter 169

"So, what do you guys think? Isn't it a nice thank-you gift?"

Cain asked while picking up the key again and tossing it to Constantine.

"Absolutely, here you go!"

Constantine shouted and tossed the key to him.

As soon as Dio took the key, he felt the same energy the house was emitting, but in a more concentrated form while coursing through his body and calming down again shortly after.

"Don't you want it?"

Dio asked with confusion.

"Of course I want it, but I'm giving it to you as compensation for being dragged into this mess."

He had always wanted an accessible and safe place to run his workshop, but he had never been able to find one, so he gladly took the key.

The moment Dio made that decision mentally, the key glowed and disappeared from his hand.

Now, he can feel a small connection between himself and the house.

"It's done. Now, all you need to do is call it when you leave here, and it will do its magic on its own. Amazing, isn't it?"

Dio agreed with him.

After that, the two of them started eating without much conversation while Dio familiarized himself with his new connection.

"Well, that sure was one hell of a meal."

Constantine joked while patting his full belly.

"True, nothing cooks better than the dream of that chef guy, whatever his name is."

Cain agreed while also doing the same for Constantine.

"Can we go now?"

Dio asked impatiently.

"Kid, you should eat something. It would do wonders for your mood."

Constantine joked.

"I don't need to eat; I'm just in a hurry to get home."

It was a lie.

Dio was angry because there were so many things smelling and looking delicious in front of him without him being able to eat them.

He was paranoid.

But it's this paranoia that will keep him alive and protect his friends and family in this crazy reality.

"I really don't mind taking a walk now that we've eaten, and since we've just devoured several sweets, how about some tea now?"

Cain offered with his usual strange smile.

"No thanks."

"I'll accept."

Dio refused, but Constantine accepted.

Cain got up and ran towards the small house.

He grabbed the knife from the door and opened it while slowly closing it and facing them with a smile, his eyes shining red.

They both stared at the closed door, and Dio shut down his senses to protect himself.

"Do you think he...?"

"Yeah!"

Dio confirmed Constantine's idea without thinking twice.

Cain will get their coffee, but before that, he will deal with his murderous urge with a copy of his brother in the house.

Five minutes of silence later.

The door opened again, and Cain emerged carrying a silver tray with a silver tea pot on top.

He looked happier and more relaxed than ever, with a smile showing all his teeth and hopping with joy on his way to us.

"Let me serve you."

Cain said that and picked up the coffee pot.

The two of them are now only paying attention to the silver knife stained red beside the tray.

Finally, they started moving.

It seemed that even Constantine had a limit and reached it as soon as he saw the bloodstained knife.

After that, he finally agreed to the "let's get out of here as fast as possible."

Cain didn't take anything else from the house.

He just started walking slowly along the road and avoided stepping on a rock or passing near any tree along the way.

He said he avoided entering other dreams, which could be true, but part of Dio still believes that half of his actions are due to madness.

After another half hour of walking, they began to walk through dreams.

There were a lot of good dreams, but it seems that this world didn't have only easy ways to get somewhere.

They always have to go through a few bad dreams.

Finally, Cain stopped in front of a leafless white tree on a small piece of

land in the middle of a lake.

"Look, my friend will help you too."

Cain pointed to the trunk of the tree, where a black crow was looking at them.

"Caw!"

The crow croaked.

They stood for a few seconds in silence while looking at Cain with his arm extended and waiting for something from them.

"Alright, kid, I agree with you now, and that was definitely a terrible idea."

"I can't say I'm happy to be right."

Dio said quietly.

Cain brought them all this way just to see a crow in a tree.

"Hey, Matthew, stop fooling around and speak, or they'll think I'm crazy."

Cain scolded the crow.

"Caw!"

"Damn, idiot!"

Cain shouted and bent down to pick up a stone.

"Okay, okay, my bad, I couldn't resist!"

Then the crow spoke just as Cain was about to throw a stone at him.

"What the hell is going on here?"

Dio asked Constantine.

"Never seen a talking animal before?"

Constantine asked back and lit another cigarette.

It seems that just the fact that the crow can speak made him reconsider his apology and revert to his old self.

"But Cain, you really are crazy."

The crow spoke again.

Dio knew that crows could indeed repeat some words or even phrases, but speaking like this would be impossible.

They are in a land where dreams come true, so a talking crow must be normal around here.

"Guys, this is Matthew. He's my friend and also very close to the Lord of Dreams, and he can help you."

Cain introduced them to his friend.

"I know them very well, Cain, I've been in dreams where they are the main players, especially Constantine."

Matthew said while looking with his black eyes at Constantine.

"I'm famous even in dreams?"

Constantine asked with pleasure.

"Very much. I don't know what you did on Earth, but I've never seen so many living beings dreaming about someone's death as they do about you."

That sounds about right.

"And what about you?"

Matthew looked at him.

"Being a hero, you're definitely more famous, and the dreams people have about you are quite mixed, except for the teenagers. They love you, like, a lot."

That sounds about right too.

"Okay, that's enough. Cain, when is he going to take us to the castle?"

Constantine asked while his mood was souring a bit.

Meanwhile, Dio's mood only improved.

They were finally reaching the end of this adventure in this strange realm.
