"Oh, that." Peter was not surprised. He said, "The spider-man suits that are being made now are all mass-produced by Asgard. They're made of the same material as the lining in their divine armor, which naturally emits light."
"Plus, Nick throws a half-hour fit if he loses a single strand of wool, blasting Asgard's product quality and demanding a 30,000-year warranty extension with 2,000 times compensation. Loki grew tired of arguing with him and simply had Kamar-Taj enchant every Spider-Man suit."
"You don't need to worry, these enchantments won't interfere with your normal activities and are passive shields that trigger in dangerous situations to save your life."
Riley put on a less pretentious air and picked up his suit with one hand. He looked at Peter and said, "Honestly, I'm getting quite interested in this S.H.I.E.L.D director assistant job."
"Don't." Shadow Spider-man immediately said, "Despite it having the highest salary among all spider-man positions, if you don't have a broad understanding of economics, it would be better not to apply. Several Spiders lost months trying to get their heads straight after leaving the role."
Riley smirked and didn't respond directly, but it was clear to Peter and Shadow Spider-man that he was persistent. They had grown to respect every Peter Parker's fate. After all, some Peter is bound to have bad luck. As long as it wasn't them, it was fine.
Riley quickly put on his suit. Peter also changed into his, while Shadow Spider-man retained his usual attire. His suit was too distinctive and no one would ever mistake him for anyone else.
Riley's Spider-Man color is darker, red more. As for Peter's it looked like the suit of this universe's Spider-Man. Peter spread his hands and explained, "Since Peter and I share the same identity, and we use the same account on the app, there's no need for us to look different."
"Is that possible?" a surprised Riley asked.
"Yes," Peter nodded. As the three walked out, he continued, "You could also bring over the authentic Spider-Man from your universe and share the identity. Since you're his clone and Nick won't be able to tell you apart with bare eyes, you could both work simultaneously. One can do experiments in the lab, the other can take on task assignments and keep peace. You'd be able to earn double within the same time."
"Gwen has no idea how many times she has complained. The jackals in her world only know how to loiter around Spider Silk Lake all day, showing no intention of carrying out cloning experiments at all. She dreams of a day when another 'her' could suddenly appear in front of her and say, 'I can take your night shift for you'. " Shadow Spider-man said as he opened the door.
"That's ridiculous." Riley commented.
Despite his words, this absurdity and humor indeed dispersed the sadness in his heart. Who would have thought that his once significant ethical dilemma would in this world merely be about whether they could work two jobs with the same identity and earn double the pay!
With that in mind, Riley found himself somewhat interested. Looking at the other Spider Men, particularly Gwen Spiderman, running around non-stop day and night for her own world, shuffling between two universes and even reluctant to buy more expensive magic.
If he were to bring over the Spider-Man from his universe and share the identity, thus allowing the same account to accumulate credits, wouldn't that give them twice the advantage?!
Riley suddenly became alert. He didn't know what happened to him. He suspected there would be some hallucinogen in this universe's air space. How did he start talking about money as well?!
The three Spider Men began traveling down the corridor. As Peter pondered, he said, "The new warrior prevented you from taking action within the crowds of protestors, but the puppeteers behind them will not stop. I wonder who they'll target next?"
"The question is, what do they want now?" Shadow Spider-man also speculated, "Their manipulations on Riley were aimed at tarnishing the reputation of an identical looking Peter Parker. Ultimately, they want the public to start resenting the space travel technology."
"That means they could do something else to achieve this." Peter's frown deepened. Suddenly, an idea flashed in his mind. He said to Shadow Spider-man," The Queens District Space Travel Technology Expo!"
"If they could cause a terrorist attack there, like making some of the exhibit items explode to hurt innocent people, that could likewise weaken the public's faith in technological development. They must be planning this!"
As Peter finished, the three Spider Men started running, jumping out of the window. Soon, three agile figures shimmered in the sun, swinging on gleaming silk threads, and cutting across the New York skyline to Queens District at high speed.
Meanwhile, in a hospital room in Arkham Sanatorium, Shiller was sitting by a bed. He reached out to touch the forehead of the young man lying on the bed, "Good news, your temperature has returned to normal today. If everything goes well, you'll recover by tomorrow."
The one lying in the bed was also Peter Parker, same young face but with somewhat lax eyes and a low spirit. Shiller rose to tuck his blanket in and said, "Don't be too upset. You've done your best."
"I came here too late." The young man trembled on the edge of tears as he said, "I should have come here earlier. If I had, maybe I would have found a way to solve things."
Peter's eyes began to redden. He nearly couldn't contain his sobbing voice, "Doctor Strange is dead, Black Panther is dead, Nick Fury is dead too… I should have been dead as well…"
Shiller gently combed Peter's hair with his hand, looked into his eyes and said, "Peter, earlier, you couldn't leave the hospital because your wounds hadn't healed. Mephisto was too brutal, you were injured, and traveling across the cosmos, even with your strong healing capabilities, required time for recovery."
"But now, your physical wounds are almost healed. The only thing standing in your way to discharge is your mentality. I'm sorry, but your psychological evaluation results suggest you might need long-term mental therapy for recovery."
"No, Doctor, no!" Peter abruptly grabbed Shiller's wrist. With teary eyes, he said, "I can't afford to waste any more time here. I have to return and fight alongside my comrades! I can't abandon Mr. Stark, Steve, and Natasha. They still have powerful enemies to fight against. I can't live in ignominy!"
Shiller seemed entirely unbothered by the force Peter was applying to his wrist due to his agitation, he simply held the medical record and calmly said to Peter, "It's because you're this worked up that I can't let you go. Emotional thinking is dominating your mind, and it's causing you to lose basic judgement. You well know that rushing back won't make much of a difference."
Peter, who seemed somewhat desolate, released his grip, tearfully saying, "Yes, I didn't help at all, even Loki, I mean, the Evil Loki of my world, he has stood up, and I did nothing."
Peter's Adam's apple was constantly shaking, and he murmured somewhat distraughtly, "Tony must be mad at me, Steve too. They will think, I had a way out, why didn't use my power to save the world?"
"Why couldn't that powerful demon god save everyone and only took me away? They must hate me."
When he finished speaking, Peter couldn't hold back any longer, he leaned to Shiller's chest, hugging his shoulder and started sobbing. Shiller patted his back, saying, "No, they won't hate you. They will be relieved that a child as young as you found a way to save yourself."
"Maybe, they're also worried that the Demon God who took you away might hurt you, perhaps, they're trying to find you now."
Peter's body was constantly convulsing, and he could not speak for crying. His hand that was holding Shiller tightened, and he said in a trembling voice, "Of course, they obviously want to find me, and I want to find them."
Shiller patted Peter's back greatly, and said, "When you get better, you can go back. Now what you need to do is to wake up from your sorrow, regain your rationality, think of countermeasures, we will all help you."
A few minutes later, Peter was cried out and curled up on the bed again, but this exhaustion helped him regain some rationality. He stretched out a hand to touch his eyes, and looked at Shiller, "I am in the hospital, what about the area I was assigned to maintain public order when I came to this universe? Will someone get hurt?"
Shiller, who was sitting by the bed, quietly looked at Peter's rather naive face, wondering just how charitable Spider-Man had to be to care about the safety of ordinary people in his jurisdiction the moment he woke up.
But Shiller didn't plan to comfort him, he said directly, "Some things indeed happened there when you were not there, but others will deal with it."
Peter looked at Shiller with teary eyes, "What happened?"
His expression gradually became worried. A few seconds later, he turned over and tried to sit up, propping himself up on the hospital bed and said anxiously, "No, I have to go and see, I promised Nick, I can't neglect my duty."
"You're still under treatment now, leaving here would be neglecting your duty." Shiller gently pushed Peter back down and said, "Here's what happened. According to S.H.I.E.L.D's investigation, someone wanted to use your justice-serving action to instigate conflicts between the police and protesters, to photograph you beating someone with a clear face, to frame Peter Parker."
"They want to plunge the pioneer of space transportation technology, Peter Parker, into the whirlpool of public opinion, so as to make the public feel aversion to the new technology."
"Whenever a new technology comes on stage and makes historical breakthroughs, those whose vested interests have been damaged always resort to this means."
"If they can't smear the advanced technology, they smear those who invent and use the technology. After all, the public only sees the results without caring about the truth. Once the public opinion starts to riot for a while, later clarifications won't help."
Peter looked increasingly anxious. He was about to jump up, he exclaimed, "Then I have to hurry over! What if they really succeed?"
"Don't rush." Shiller leaned back in his chair, tapped the hospital bed railings lightly with the pen in his hand, and said, "The young heroes have already resolved the first crisis. They couldn't drag Peter Parker into the mud, so they had to make a compromising move, to release dangerous signals at the space transport technology expo."
"You're saying, they're going to carry out terrorist attacks at the expo, so what should we do?" Peter asked anxiously.
Shiller suddenly chuckled, reached out, and handed Peter a mobile phone from his bedside table.
Peter took it with some confusion. As soon as he turned on the phone, he saw that he had received more than a dozen messages from the Spider App.
Peter checked them one by one, finding a useful one at the top that made him exclaim instinctively, "Spider-man is cordially invited to check in at the space transport technology expo in the Queens District...20 study points?!! That's a lot?!!"
Looking closely, he found all the comments under this message were as astounded as he was. He then looked at the number of enrollees above——
"Spiderman: 169 people."
Shiller looked at Peter with a smile, saying:
"Even if Thanos comes, we'll pound him into minced meat."
