Mutated Plant[2]

Meanwhile, on another side of the pharmacy, Aria was still busy packing the drugs she felt would be necessary, and standing beside her was Karl, who simply kept talking.

'That should be enough.' She thought, heaving a low sigh of relief.

"You're done now?" Karl said, resting his back on the wall.

"Yeah." Aria replied flatly. Looking at the nylon bag in her hands that was stuffed full with medicine, she couldn't help but wonder if she took too much.

However, thinking about how they would have to stay holed in the warehouse for at least some days, she felt like there was nothing wrong with packing enough drugs.

"If the pharmacist were here, he wouid definitely be mad at you for taking all those drugs." Karl said, chuckling to himself, but when he saw that Aria didn't find his joke funny, he stopped, coughing awkwardly.

'Damn it, another terrible joke. I messed up again…' He thought, scratching his head weirdly.

Aria just kept staring at him, with the same blank look on her face. 'What is Blake still doing? We better get going.' She thought.

Just by staying with Karl for a few seconds, she had already started missing Blake, at least things weren't too awkward with him.

"So what's the name of your skill?" Karl asked, bringing up another topic in a bid to make her forget his earlier comment.

"That's nobody's business." Aria coldly replied, refusing his request almost immediately.

"Hmm… okay. Mine's silent steps, it is basically a skill that makes my steps silent." Karl said, making another dry pun, which Aria didn't find funny at all.

"Hmm, okay." She said, not sure how else she was supposed to reply to that. 'Should you really be revealing your skill like that to someone you just met, is he stupid or what?' She thought, shaking her head.

"I do have another skill, its name is—"

Scree!!

Scree!!!

Karl was about to reveal his other skill, when a loud screech abruptly reverberated in the air, cutting his words off.

"What was that?!" Karl said, a cold chill running down his spine. His eyes suddenly widened in fear, as he remembered something: 'Edward!'

Aria's eyes also widened in surprise, and she didn't even wait for a second before dashing towards the direction of the sound.

*

Scree!

With a loud screech, three of the stems swiftly shot out towards Blake and Edward at insane speed.

'Damn plant!' Edward thought, as he swiftly swung his sword towards the incoming stems.

Whoosh!

With three swift consecutive slashes, he easily cut through all three of them, even the one heading for Blake.

The three cut stems fell down to the ground, rapidly withering until their lush green colour turned brown.

Due to Edward slash, the mutated plant was open for a brief second, and Blake took that chance to launch an attack of his own.

'Lightning Ball!' He thought, quickly stretching his hand towards the plant.

Blitz!!!

A cracking lightning ball rapidly formed in front of his palm, before zipping towards an open petal in a swift, electrifying dance.

Hiss!!

The plant hissed again in pain, and hurriedly tried to retract the renaming part of its sliced stem, but before it could do so, the lightning ball struck one of its petals with full force, before exploding into a powerful series of bright blue sparks.

The force behind the explosion completely charred the struck petal, down to its stem, even going on to burn down the three other petals adjacent to it.

Screee!!!

The mutated plant screeched loudly again, feeling the sparks from the explosion course through its body.

'What a powerful skill. Cool.' Edward thought, with a slight smile on his face. When he first met Blake, he didn't think he would be this powerful, but it was good to know that he wouldn't be a burden to him.

"Brother!" With a loud shout, Karl unexpectedly came bursting in from the side, with Aria following behind him.

"Thank God you're okay… but what the hell is that?" Karl said, pointing at the mutated tulips with trembling hands.

"A mutated… plant?" Aria mumbled, her expression morphing into a deep frown.

Not only do they have to deal with mutated animals, and wild beasts but now there were mutated plants also?!

Hisss!!!

The plant hissed loudly in annoyance, and right before their eyes, its stems speedily grew even longer, this time also growing thicker, until each one were as thick as a human's forearm.

Its petals also increased in size, becoming so large to the point where they could fully swallow up an adult human's face, and the mouths between them tripled in size also, with their previously small fangs reaching the size of a canine.

"Damn it. This is bad." Blake thought, with beads of sweat pooling around his forehead.

If it was still like before, then they would be able to easily kill it by simply cutting it or burning it to a crisp, but now that it had increased in size, Blake was sure its defence had also gotten stronger.

Edward gritted his teeth in frustration, tightly gripping the sword in his hands.

'It's better not to hold anything back against this monster.' He thought, before quickly activating his skill. 'Flaming sword.'

Almost instantly, bright red flames lit up from the bottom of his blade, rapidly swirling all the way to the top until the long sword in his hands was fully covered in flames.

The light from the flames illuminated the pharmacy, causing the mutated plant to hiss loudly at the blonde haired boy.

Screee!!

A piercing screech echoed in the air, as one of the plant's petals shot towards Edward at insane speed, its mouth wide open, revealing its sharp fangs.

Taking a simple stance, Edward swiftly launched a downward slash at the incoming petal.

Szzz!!!

The moment his flaming sword made contact with the petal, fire immediately erupted all over the stem, sizzling it to a crisp.

While the plant might have gotten bigger and stronger, his slashes had also gotten a lot stronger with the activation of his skill.

Scree!!

The mouths on the other petals hissed loudly in pain, and in the next second, seven petals suddenly shot towards the group, with their mouths wide open, threatening to devour them.

'Lightning Ball!' Blake said, swiftly launching two cracking balls of lightning towards the incoming attacks.

Blitz!!

The balls flew through the air at rapid speed, going straight into the mouths of two of the petals.

The instant it entered their mouths, the ball suddenly exploded, burning it down to its stem.

Karl's face squeezed into a deep frown, and he swiftly leapt backwards, escaping the large petal, causing it to crash into the ground instead.

Bam!!

A loud sound reverberated in the building, as the force behind the hit left a deep crater on the ground.

Edward simply sliced through the petals, the flames on his sword burning them down to a crisp, while Aria easily knocked them back using light arrows.

Karl's eyes locked on the flower, and he quickly activated his other skill.

'Inspect!' He thought, and in a split second, a large tab appeared in front of him, displaying the necessary information about the mutated plant.

As he read through the tab, the frown on his face gradually deepened. 'Shit! This is bad… very bad!' He thought, a cold sweat rolling down his cheek.
