Alfred quickly turned the steering, without caring about the other cars on the road.
Within a few blinks, the huge bug had already closed in on them.
Due to Alfred's quick response to turn the car, the giant bug slammed into the side of the bonnet full force, leaving a huge dent and sending the car skidding on the ground.
The car windscreens cracked from the force, but fortunately, none of them shattered.
Luckily for them, the bug suddenly flew away from the car, heading to another direction.
Alfred watched as it broke through the windscreen of a small car some meters away from him, before passing through the head of the driver.
The life of the unfortunate man ended that moment, with a frozen frightened expression on his face.
He felt his blood turn cold as he watched as the beast munched on the brains of the man, before flying away once more, probably to find the next target.
He subconsciously turned his head to his wife beside him, finding the same fear-stricken expression on her face.
By now, majority of the drivers had already started panicking after witnessing what just happened.
They steered their wheels in panic, without caring for road safety or the other cars close to them.
Cars crashed recklessly into each other, the sounds of windows and windscreens crashing and people screaming resounded on the road and a lot of lives were lost due to the accidents.
The dimly lit environment intensified the prevailing chaos. With limited visibility for everyone and only the car headlights to rely on, accidents continued to occur, plunging the entire street into utter turmoil and bewilderment.
The traffic light in the distance was currently blinking with a red light, but none of the people on the road stopped their car and were more concerned with saving their own lives.
Just then, the clouds suddenly cleared and the bright sun appeared in the sky again.
"Dad, what's happening…?" A low frightened voice rang out from the back, breaking Alfred from his thoughts.
The loud noises and crashes had already broken him out of his 'slumber' and right now, he was confused as he didn't know what was happening.
'What is going on?' He mumbled, with his eyes darting around.
At that moment, Alfred would have loved to give his son a reply, to tell him everything was okay, but he just couldn't, because he himself didn't know what waa happening.
"Timmy… it's—" His wife was about to try and calm the boy when another car suddenly hit theirs from behind.
BAM!
The force from the hit lunged their bodies forward, and the windscreen at the back of the car shattered, with a few pieces falling into the car, causing the boy to shriek as one of the shards pierced his arm.
Fortunately, they were all putting on their seatbelts, so the hit didn't rattle them too much.
"We need to get down, now!" Alfred exclaimed. Usually, the best thing to do would have being to stay in the car as coming down could expose them to even more danger, especially from the giant carnivorous bug.
However, now that the road had turned into some sort of danger zone with different cars ramming into each other and accidents happening everywhere, the best thing was to get off the main road.
Alfred immediately came down from the car before going to his son's side to also help him down.
Unfortunately for them, their car was positioned right in the middle of the road so they had to walk all the way to the other side.
Getting away from the main road was an hurdle on its own, they had to avoid the nearby crashes and collisions and each step they were taking reminded them that they were on the edge of death.
The family of three stood together, feeling that the moment they separated was the minute they would all lose their lives.
The boy's body shivered uncontrollably in his fathers arms, now that they stepped down from the car, they were able to see the full extent of the chaos going on.
They weren't the only ones who had come down from their car, in fact, some people had also stepped down and were running across the road in hopes of finding safety.
However, there were a few stubborn ones who remained in their cars and kept on driving, crashing into more cars and causing more accidents.
Whether it was luck or fortune, the giant bug was nowhere in sight. It seemed that it had left the area and this brought a little calm unto their minds.
As if things couldn't get any worse, people suddenly started falling to the ground. Rather than "fall", it looked more as if they were pushed down by a strange force.
Their bodies wriggled violently and their flesh tore right before the eyes of those watching them.
Before long, those that fell started standing back up, their legs were wobbly and their skin was transformed into a pale ashen shade.
The torn parts of their flesh dangled disgustingly from their bodies and their appearance alone erupted more screams among those that didn't 'transform'.
Their steps were quite slow and unsteady and with every step they took, it felt as if they would fall back to the ground.
"A-are you o-okay…?" A pretty woman asked her boyfriend who had also transformed like the others.
His current appearance scared her, but she felt like she couldn't just leave him alone.
But just as she stretched her hand towards him to help him up, her 'boyfriend' grabbed it before suddenly sinking his teeth into her flesh.
"Arrrg!!!" She screamed as he ripped it off before chewing on it like it was a snack.
Shocked and scared to her core, she turned around and tried to run but unfortunately, she tripped on one of those strange creatures lying on the ground.
Fear-stricken, she found herself unable to move as one of the weird ashen suddenly climbed over her before digging its teeth into her arm.
Her scream was muddled as tens of them gathered around her, taking bites from the flesh and eating with no care in the world.
Unfortunately, no one stopped to help her as everyone was too busy trying to save their own lives.
However, a few moment later, the woman suddenly stood up with staggering steps before lunging towards another person close to her.
Scenes like this kept playing out all around the road with strange sets of people eating and taking bites out of others like beasts.
It was like a scene taken straight out of a horror movie, there was only one word that came to their mind at the sights of those words creatures with peeled ashen skin: "Zombies."
"What is going on?" Blake mumbled as he watched a man get eaten by one of those strange features a few meters away from him.
His face was pale from fear and his expression was a mix of fear and confusion. "Is this a dream… a nightmare…"
"Snap out of it Blake!" His father's voice broke him of his thoughts. "We have to move…"
After finding a spot that seemed to have relatively few zombies, he grabbed the boy's hand tightly and ran towards it, with his wife following behind him.
It wasn't like he knew what to do either, in fact, his whole body was shivering and his heart was beating very fast.
Everything just seemed so bizarre and he didn't know what to believe in anymore.
He ignored everything else and only kept running, all he knew was that he had to protect his family and protect Blake.
It seemed like the zombies prioritised those that screamed or made loud noises, so the ones that chased after them weren't too much.
Due to how slow the zombies moved, they were able to narrowly escape most of them by turning and changing their direction.
However, just as they were about to climb the sidewalk on the other side of the road, one of the zombies suddenly grabbed Alfred's cloth from behind.
Alfred's eyes widened as he felt the zombie pull him backwards with great strength.
Due to the strength behind the pull and also the fact that it was unexpected, he wasn't able to resist and found himself falling backwards.
However, just before he fell he quickly released Blake's hands to prevent them from falling together.
"Dad!" Blake shouted in fear when he didn't feel his father's hold on his hand anymore.
He immediately turned around and the next thing that filled his vision was that of a pale ashen creature digging its teeth and claws into his father's shoulder.
His father was struggling to free himself but the strength of the zombie was too much for him to handle.
Blake instinctively tried to run towards his father in order to help him, but he was suddenly pulled away by his mother, who immediately started running towards the opposite direction while dragging him along.
Her eyes were teary and her expression was frozen in fear, however, she only kept running without even looking back.
Blake's eyes remained glued on his father's figure as he ran with his mother.
He watched on as a zombie with a large mouth bit down on his head.
Blood and brain matter splattered around the ground, and his father's body went still immediately.
Despite this, the zombies only kept chewing at his flesh, with the large-mouthed one taking the most chunk.
He didn't need anyone to tell him, he knew immediately, that his father was dead…
