"They're just boys."

"Another gloomy day, I hope it stops raining soon," said Emilia as she got out of bed and peered out the windows to see the dark and gloomy clouds that poured rain down Senka Luna Academy of Magic, her school.

The usual, she washed her face and put on her academy uniform which consisted of a white turtleneck beneath a black sweater vest that had the school logo, a moon casting out a shadow to a large oak tree, on its right chest.

A plaid pleated skirt that's just above the knees and a black blazer that also has the school logo. Her shoes were black Oxfords and matched with white ankle socks.

"Another day for brewing potions and spells." did I mention that her school is a school for witches, wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks alike? Well, that is exactly her school but the thing was, she was neither of all that kind because she was just a normal human.

She took her lab coat and bag filled with things that only apothecaries had.

Emilia got out of her dorm room because the rest of her roommates were already in their classes. She was the only human in the whole school, and two because her schedule was a bit different than the rest of the students.

"Great, no breakfast then." As she walked through the hall of classrooms, it was quite the unusual buzz, because, for one, all the teachers seem to be missing from each classroom, and two, the students were blatantly gossiping without care.

"Didn't you hear? Two new students are transferring today!" Emilia overheard one of the girls say.

"I know right? I heard it was a boy." replied another. As soon as she passed the hallway, she took a turn and went straight to her classroom.

The classes are divided into six categories. First are the Elementals that have the power to control either of the four elements which are fire, water, air, and earth. Second, are the Shapeshifters, these are the ones that can change their appearance into animals or any type of creatures they've seen.

Third are the Witches and Wizards, that have the abilities to cast spells, jinxes, and hexes and can conjure and summon spirits.

Next are the Elves, they are human in form, with extremely pale skin, pointed ears, and different colored hair and eyes. They can control elements of nature and can communicate with animals.

Then there are the Knights, they are also humans but they are ten times stronger and faster than the average human, by the age of five they can lift a whole table with one hand, or so the stories go. They are in charge of the safety and peace of all the kingdom and its people.

And lastly are the Apothecary, they are the witches that have taken the profession of learning to be Doctors of magic. They conjure potions, elixirs, medicine, and spells that don't have to be cast.

When Emilia arrived at the classroom, in front were two boys, one with dark raven hair and the other had silver hair like an elf. His ears weren't pointed but his eyes were a beautiful shade of amethyst.

You were about to sit down when the teacher, Mr. Fulton called you. "Ahh, Ms. Bellerose, nice for you to join us and just in time. This is Caelum Delvaux and Kieran Crius, they will be joining you this year and I trust you, Miss Bellerose, to guide them about everything we have studied so far." you were stunned for a moment and almost did a double-take without the coffee.

"Uhh, why me?" you pointed to yourself. "Ahh, the classic question, why me indeed." you thought to yourself.

"Because you are the top student of this class Ms. Bellerose and I have faith in your knowledge to guide and help them understand." you were going to rebut but he stopped you by holding his hand up,

"She will be helping both of you with anything you don't know. Two chairs have been put for your convenience at the back, you may be seated." he motioned to the seemingly new chairs and desks that weren't there last time you checked.

You stood there shocked and you only got your composure back when the boy with the black hair called Kieran waved his hands in front of you. "Oh, sorry. I'm--" you were cut off.

"Emilia Nox Bellerose, I'm Kieran Crius. Pleased to make your acquaintance." and he was about to kiss your left hand when you shook his instead. "Likewise." you pulled your hand back.

He chuckled and smiled at your notion. "Funny, we'll get along quite well," he said before taking the left seat next to yours. And you assumed that the silver-haired boy is Caelum Delvaux.

He didn't speak but instead walked passed you and sat on the empty table next to yours. You also immediately took a seat thinking it would be awkward to keep standing there.

"Don't worry about him, he's always like that. You and I on the other hand will get along quite nicely." Kieran whispered next to you before focusing back on Mr. Fulton, who was already starting the lecture whilst you were preoccupied with the thoughts "What the frog just happened?"

"Midterms are almost upon us," announced Mr. Fulton, "for the practical exams, you will be creating a healing potion." the rest of the class started to grumble, but Mr. Fulton put his hand up to silence them,

"Not just any healing potion, this one you'll be making is called the Blood of the Firefly. As you may know, these creatures are rare and hard to find, the only way to create this potion is by capturing one and extracting its blood as the most crucial ingredient."

"You will form groups, minimum of four and maximum of six. This day a month from now, I will expect that you have gathered all the ingredients and will be able to create the potion on that day. I will be giving you the rest of the time to discuss what you'll be doing next. That is all, you may start." he disappeared in a cloud of smoke. Literally.

The whole classroom was in an uproar. All of your classmates have swarmed your table and are yelling in chorus, "Will you join our group Caelum?" of course as expected Caelum did not move an inch.

Based on the cold shoulder they received from Caelum, they then turned to Kieran instead, "How about you Kieran?"

You were about to leave the chaos when an arm stopped you and the owner of the said arm declared, "Sorry, but I already have a group mate. Caelum and I are part of her team so, maybe next time." your eyes widened as you stared unbelievably at Kieran.

And all of them left in defeat, "Hold up!" you exclaimed. "But we still need one more, that is assuming that we will be working together on this endeavor," you argued, Kieran made an expression like he was thinking, massaging his chin as if he had a beard.

He scanned the room and his eyes landed on a girl sitting alone on one of the tables, looking left and right like a lost puppy, "Aha! How about her?" he motioned to the said girl. And you followed to where he was pointing to realize that she was one of your roommates.

You considered this and agreed, "Alright, wait here, I'll call her." You stood up and approached her. She looked up at you and smiled widely, exclaiming "Oh thank the stars Em! Can I join your team? Pleaseee!" she begged.

You laughed at her childish act, "I was just about to ask you." she stopped then jumped up and down in delight. "Thank you, thank you! You will not regret it." then she gathered her things and pulled you to where the two boys were standing.

"This is Damara Pluvio, and they are--" she didn't let you finish and immediately grabbed Kieran's hand and introduced herself.

"I know who you are, it's so great to meet you personally! I'll be a good teammate and oh this is going to be so much fun!" she was about to grab Caelum's hand when Caelum gave her a real scary look that made almost made her run for the halls.

"Ehem okay, now that we're all well acquainted and our group is complete, how about a group discussion in the library?" you suggested as an ice breaker.

Especially since the whole classroom is still loudly assembling itself into groups and Mr. Fulton didn't exactly say that the limit of the discussion should remain within the classroom.

"Great idea but Caelum has elemental class and I have shapeshifting classes next," said Kieran, putting his arm around Caelum who became more annoyed than he already was, if that was even possible.

"Maybe later, after all, our classes are finished." you nodded in agreement since you also have Mythical Biology in half an hour. Damara also came out from behind you, where she was hiding, and nodded in agreement.

"I also have Spellcasting classes next," Damara replied. The four of you went out of the classroom together. "I'll be in the library first later so just look for me," you added.

"Great! You have so much free time that I'm kind of jealous." Damara whined, "I wish I only have a few classes too because I'm human. See you later guys!" Damara bid farewell and left, leaving you with the boys looking confused from Damara's statement.

"What does she mean because you're human?" asked Kieran. Caelum also looked slightly curious. "Oh dear, here we go, that question." you thought to yourself and sighed.

You took a deep breath and sighed, "It's just as she said, I'm human. To be put simply, I don't have powers of any kind. I'm normal if you'll put it that way." their eyes grew wide in shock. Oh boy, here comes the flood of questions. You thought to yourself.

"Then how are you allowed to study here? And everyone knows you're a human?" asked Kieran.

You nodded and shrugged your shoulder, "Pretty much. I'm the disappointment of a child that was born to a Witch and a Knight. The possibility of ever bearing a normal child from two magic users is one percent, and unfortunately, I'm that one percent." you explained to lessen the amount of confusion.

"But that doesn't explain how you're allowed to go here. Like you said you don't exactly have powers." you've heard it so many times over, but the pain of the statement still pierced through you like an invisible blade.

Caelum noticed and surprisingly he elbowed Kieran on his stomach which made Kieran grunt a little. "What? I was just asking?"

"What the idiot meant to say was, how were you accepted into the school exactly?" you were a bit shocked that Caelum finally talked, it took you a while to answer his question.

"Uhh, no it's okay. Well, I'm a special case since my parents and older brother are alumni of the academy, and they agreed to let me attend classes, only the ones that don't require any spellcasting or magic for that matter.

"And they made me an exception because you might not have noticed but I have a talent for Apothecary." you were a bit shy to declare that on your own but it was one of the few things that you were positively confident about.

They nodded their heads as if to say that they understand, it was awkward for you to stay there any further so you make an excuse, "Uhh, sorry look at the time. I have to go now, I still have Mythical Biology class. See you later at the library." and you make a run for it before either of them could stop you.

"They're just boys Emilia! Get a grip on yourself." and you took a turn, past the Mythical Biology classroom--to the library.
