“Hi, Jason,” Laura said before introducing me to her friend Amanda who worked as a developmental editor.
The three of us talked about stuff going on in the company and how we’d all only come to Maureen’s party for the free booze (that was only free until six).
“Better drink as much as you can before they start charging,” Amanda said. “I’m already on my second beer.”
As tempted as I was to chug my beer and head to the bar for another, I didn’t. Even the lure of free alcohol wasn’t enough to put me in a better mood. I didn’t even feel like going to Jared’s now. I was still angry over the way he’d snapped at me on the way over. I was tempted to just walk out and leave without saying anything to him, but I was trying to be the bigger person in our relationship or whatever it was.
