NEW LIFE II

"Please sit down and wait here." The receptionist gestured towards a couch.

Reese sat down and quietly took in her surroundings. The room was the similar to the waiting room downstairs, the only difference being the paintings hanging on the walls, resembling dystopian landscapes. This one only contained two couches, placed at the opposite sides of a rectangular glass table. After a few moments of waiting she tested her head on the headrest and closed her eyes as she waited.

It was already night time and Reese was tired so she didn't realize when she fell asleep. She felt as if someone was near her, watching her quietly. Something brushed against her forehead and on instinct, she grabbed it and pulled it downwards, raising her leg and kicking the person in the head. She heard the sound of something falling to the floor as she opened her eyes, stretching her body as she just woke up from sleep.

There were 4 people in front of her, wearing black suits with a CEF logo above their hearts, and the person she just hurt also wore a similar outfit. Reese gulped as she faced the four people sitting straight up, her hands resting in her lap.

"You have good reflexes and instinct." The man sitting on the couch in front of her complimented, very obviously the superior.

"Uh, thanks." Reese smiled awkwardly.

The man who was down beside her got up by now and slightly bowed to her as he went back to his position behind the superior.

"I have been informed as to why you are here." The superior revealed. "Mr. Ronald called us yesterday about you, he really praised you, something I have never seen him doing for anyone else. I guessed you must be the real deal, and I am not disappointed so far."

Reese nodded appreciatively, not knowing what to say.

"An adorable murderess." The superior chuckled. "We have our ways to digging out the backgrounds of people." He added. "And our search revealed that, in the past 6 years, you have worked with 47 criminal organisations, worked for 4 non-criminal organisations, and killed over 8500 people. Also have stolen over $500 billion dollars worth of goods in the past 6 years."

Reese gulped nervously, her arms instinctively reaching towards her pistols.

"On the other hand, we found out about your family background too." The superior mentioned standing up. "I must say your family background was very unexpected." He walked to a painting as he sighed. "You see this painting." He gestured to the painting of a little girl in front of a glowing blue sea with a cloud filled with dark storm clouds and lightning. "Your father gifted this to our organisation, when you were like 5. He wanted this to be kept forever at a safe place, you know who this girl is?" He questioned.

Reese focused on the girl. Her hair was blue-pink and wavy, much like Reese's. She gasped as the realisation hit her.

"Yes, this is you." The senior confirmed as he sat back down. "So, the question is raised, why?" He questioned, and waited for a response. "Why did this kind, innocent little kid, turn into a ruthless murderer with no regard for life?" He asked again on receiving no response.

"Because... my father was..." Reese tried to answer but couldn't finish.

"That is not a good reason." The senior shook his head. "My family was murdered in front of my eyes when I was five, you don't see me murdering innocent people and stealing supplies with no regard." He scolded. "Mark, what happened to your family?" He inquired.

"They were killed in a bomb explosion in the Section-4 of the Eastern Great Mall when I was 10." Mark answered.

"You did not need to be that specific about it." The senior sighed. "Regardless, what did you after that happened?"

"I used to wander by myself, taking up small jobs to earn some money to be able to survive. When I turned 18 I was offered by CEF to work here, I accepted the job as it would help a large number of people." Mark replied.

"See? He also went through something similar, but he didn't go on to be a criminal like you." The senior shook his head.

Reese looked down at her feet. "His parents died in an accident, they weren't targeted like my father, and my only target is to find the organisation which killed my father and have them pay for it. If I seem unfit to work here I will leave, I am capable enough to do it by myself." Reese grunted.

The senior rested his chin on his hands and looked towards her. "You will do anything to track down and destroy that organisation?" The senior questioned.

"Whatever it takes." Reese agreed.

The senior bent forwards and slid an ID across the table. Reese looked at the ID and was startled to see her face on it.

"Welcome to the team then. You will be required to work hard to pay for all the damage you have done, and you won't be getting a salary from these missions till you do enough work to make up for it." The senior informed. "On the other hand, our expert intel gatherers have found a link to the organisation. They will report back by next week with their findings. Till then you are to carry out other missions to make up for your damage." The senior explained. "Understood?" He asked in a loud voice.

Reese instinctively stood up. "U-understood." She answered.

"Very well then, make your way to the floor right above this one and knock three times on the door there as soon as you come out of the elevator." The senior ordered and left back to his room.

Reese slowly walked to the elevator she came here from after he left.  Floor 32, so floor 33 it is. Reese thought as she checked which floor she was on. Pressing the button with 33 written on it she waited for the door to open.

Walking out of the elevator she realised that there was only one door here, and a small space between the elevator and that door. She knocked thrice on the door and waited for a response. She heard a click a few moments after and the door swung open.

A girl stood at the door, slightly taller than Reese but looking around the same age. Her hair was blonde and her eyes were sky blue, she wore a lab coat.

"You are the new recruit?" She inquired.

"Yes." Reese answered.

"Okay then, follow me, I am Clara by the way." She replied.

"I am Reese." Reese introduced.

"I know, I was already told a lot about you." Clara replied.

She led Reese to a white floating table and asked her to wait. She opened one of the many cabinets built into the wall and retrieved something from inside it. She came back and placed a wristwatch in front of Reese. The watch possessed an LED screen which displayed the time, 11:23pm.

"This watch will be a transmitter to give you mission info and communicate with you." Clara explained. "Normally we give more than just a watch but with your contacts and earphone you won't need any of the other things."

Reese nodded understandingly.

"So with that being said, you are free to go, on your first mission." Clara informed. "The senior will want to test you so I am certain he will give you a mission right about now."

As if on cue the watch beeped once, Reese's contacts displaying mission details. It was the mission to find and eliminate a rogue assassin who went on a rampage, with 4 injured and 23 killed, and a past record of having killed 524+ people.

"Best of luck, and be careful out there." Clara waved as Reese left the lab.

Taking the elevator Reese went down to the ground floor and exited the CEF headquarters. She felt things were going too fast, but she didn't care as long as she could get even one step closer to avenging her father.

She made her way to the city and closed the distance between her and her target. She reached the marker from a tracking system of the CEF, but failed to find anyone who seemed like an assassin. She walked several times around the marker but saw no one. Soon she realised where her target would be.

Making her way inside a building Reese entered an elevator and took it to the top floor. While she was in the elevator she was informed of another death, a sniper bullet being the cause. She reached the rooftop and saw a man standing at the rooftop, looking down at the commotion.

"Isn't this view beautiful?" He sighed, clearly talking to Reese. "So many bright lights and colors, with the screams of people as someone dies. It's truly beautiful. But seems like you don't appreciate this beauty." He sighed as Reese pointed her pistol at him.

As soon as she took him she shot at him, but he was more skilled than he seemed. Turning around he slashed the bullet in half with a blade attached to the back of his right forearm.

"Guns are getting old now, if you want to fight me then let's go even older. Let's fight with blades, I can see you have a katana, so use it." The assassin suggested.

Putting her pistol back she unsheathed her katana. "I guess I can fulfil you final wish." Reese smirked.
