Chapter 11 - Dead Forest

Written By Dr Armstrong

— - [Amon's POV] - —

Zombie, It was an actual Zombie!

It slowly but surely waddled out of the bush with a feverish glint in its rotting eyes, most likely attracted by the Angel's obvious handsomeness.

'Hey, wait a second...that ain't a Human...' The Zombie was in fact, not a reanimated corpse of a Human.

It shared the stature of one but was noticeably much shorter, like that of a child or an abominated Hasbulla. The hunched posture, the long ears, as well as the literal tusk-like fangs growing out of its malformed mouth served as proof of its non-human identity.

The Zombie's chest was partially exposed to the wind, showing the world its bloodied ribs as if they were a fashionable choice of men's wear...and yeah, Amon was certain of this Zombie's masculine predisposition.

After all, there was a half-torn rotting penis dangling out from its crotch, a clear weak point as well as proof of the Zombie's biological gender.

The Zombie radiated out an exotic kind of putrid aroma that the Angel could still bear albeit barely.

That disgusting stench that must have served as a sign of free real estate for Flies and Bacteria alike as there were actual Maggots crawling in and out from the Zombie's exposed body.

Honestly, Amon thought that perhaps this was not an Undead, but a heretical cultist of the Chaos God Nurgle...

Not like there was much of a difference between the two...

Although the Zombie was very obviously intending to eat the Angel's undeveloped and non-existent ass, Amon showed very little fear when confronted with this fact.

After all...

—Woosh~!*

The Angel simply spread out his dove-like wings shortly before his form levitated upwards by two dozen meters or so.

Unless the Zombie was some kind of Olympic jumper or could somehow fly, it was pretty much impossible to reach the Angel's position.

"HONK!" The Angel casually gave an absolutely disrespectful and continent-shaking insult as the Zombie helplessly tried to jump only to fall back on his own ass, grazing his already torn-apart penis even more.

'Skill issue.' The Angel heartlessly and unhesitatingly lampooned the poor Undead.

Currently, Amon has 13 Karma Points for System Creations—which should be enough to support his first days in this new world...

And now was the perfect time to make use of his golden finger.

Amon opened up his System before instantly heading to the [Create] button...

「Create [Skill - Light Reflect] with 9 Karma Points?」

「Modify [Skill - Flare] with 4 Karma Points?」

"Honk." He honked in affirmation as the System blinked before updating his Status screen.

He first wanted to get rid of Flare's side effects since it was a bit too much and a complete hazard to his continued existence.

Yet that was a bit too pricy for his stingy self, so Amon merely invested 4 Points into reducing its effects.

Now, instead of completely losing his mind, the side effect was just getting a really bothersome headache.

It would also consume a lot of energy, which was manageable since he was no longer in the middle of a high-dimensional war between Demons and Angels...

With the remaining Karma Points, he invested them into creating another Skill; Light Reflect.

—Whoom~!*

A peculiar noise was created as a phantasmal and translucent hexagon was projected onto the sky, looking almost like an illusionary mirror.

Which it was.

Intensifying his body's ambient heat to extreme degrees with Extremis, a bright radiating aura emanated out of his form.

2 other mirrors manifested in several directions before Amon redirected his body's Light into the nearest mirror.

—Ripple~!*

The bright light crashed against the mirror as its surface rippled like that of water. A blast of light which was double the intensity of the one he sent was reflected back into the air.

The blast of bright light burned through the air before travelling to another mirror, which then created another blast of light with double the power.

The process went on again for the third time before a blast of burning light that was 8 times as powerful as the one he originally created was shot out from the mirror.

'Ka-boom~!' Amon whispered to himself as he redirected the mirror into the earth, burning the surrounding grass and shrubbery as the light travelled in the Zombie's direction.

"Graagh...!" The Zombie realized what was going on as desperately tried to get away, but he was unfortunately far too late...

There was no sound, the Zombie just...disappeared, utterly reduced to ash.

「You have slain a Necromantic Zombie - Goblin.」

「+1 Karma Point.」

'Ah, so it was a Goblin...that makes sense.' This gave Amon a lot to work with.

Goblins mostly exist only in fantasy worlds. Even then, not all of them have Goblins, let alone the Undead...

There was also a further distinction made by the System; Necromantic. Amon deduced that this probably meant that the Zombie was of a magical variety and not some kind of virus or parasitic fungus, confirming the fantasy world theory.

A world where there are magical Zombie Goblins...

'I need to find more of those Zombies, they're basically free loot.' Amon lampooned the Undead as it was a laughably easy job to slay them.

Even if he couldn't manage to do so with all of his firepower, they should still not be able to harm him in the slightest due to his flight...

...Right?

Uh, right?

Well, he probably shouldn't have raised such a red flag. But he had faith in the Author to not put such an obvious foreshadow in the middle of the story, so he let it go and started flying away.

He needed to find some real shelter...that Zombie was a Goblin, so there should be a Goblin tribe near here and he hoped that they weren't the Goblin Slayer kind of Goblins...

His Angel identity should give him an easy time 'befriending' the locals. Unless they were very clearly heretical Demon Worshippers, mortals don't often antagonize Angels.

But then Amon noticed something peculiar about this forest...

There was no life, t'was a dead forest.

"Graagh..." Scratch that, this ain't a dead forest...

It was an undead one...

"I'm gonna be honest with you, I just wrote this chapter today and don't have time to make it long. Sorry for the wait, my life has been kind of rocky lately and I've even considered dropping this since I no longer have much free time. But I wouldn't do that because I love writing...' -Remark
