The Crimson Court
Elara's chambers were nothing like she had imagined. Instead of the cold, damp quarters she'd expected, her room was a study in subtle luxury. Sheets of midnight silk draped a bed that seemed to float on shadows, while crystal orbs suspended from the ceiling cast a gentle luminescence that reminded her of starlight.
Yet sleep eluded her. The constant twilight of Nocturn played havoc with her internal clock, leaving her unsure whether hours or minutes had passed since she'd been shown to her quarters. A knock at her door provided a welcome distraction from her restless thoughts.
"My lady?" Lydia's familiar voice carried through the door. "It's time to prepare for the welcoming feast."
Elara's heart quickened. The Council had granted her stay, but tonight would be her first real test – a formal introduction to the vampire court.
"Come in, Lydia," she called, sitting up in bed. "Though I confess, I haven't slept a wink."
