Chapter 4

Alvaro's phone rang with an incoming call from his secretary.

He spoke to her for a few minutes and hung up.

— I'm sorry Ana, I have a meeting that I can't postpone, I'll take you home and in the afternoon I'll pick you up, okay? — she asked.

— Sure, don't worry, no problem.

Alvaro drove to Ana's house and left her in front of it.

— See you in a few hours — he said goodbye as Ana got out of the car, she just nodded.

As she entered her house, her mother was anxiously waiting for her.

— What happened? — she asked as soon as she saw her enter.

— I've already confirmed that he is her son — she answered reluctantly as she took a seat, her mother jumped with joy.

— That's good, my girl, and now what are you going to do?

— He says we should get married, his family will not allow the baby to be born out of wedlock.

Ana's mother couldn't be happier about the news.

—My love, this is wonderful! — she exclaimed.

— Is it mother? — I don't see the wonder in any of this, we barely know each other and now we have to start a family, this is a nightmare," she said with tears in her eyes.

Her mother took a seat next to her.

— Our actions have consequences daughter, don't suffer anymore the baby can feel that, stop seeing the bad and concentrate on the positive, he is a young, handsome and millionaire man, he will not let you or the baby lack anything, what more could you ask from life, accept what you have been given and be thankful for once, many women would die to take your place, destiny and God put you there for a reason.

Smile Ana, you are going to get married and you will be the mother of a beautiful baby.

Her mother tried to convince her but Ana was really sad, when she dreamed of getting married and having a family it was nothing like the reality she was living.

While Alvaro was in his office talking to his mother on the phone.

— Yes, his mother is pregnant.

— But who is she, do I know her? — she asked anxiously.

— No mother, she — Álvaro didn't know how to explain — She is not famous nor does she have money, she is a normal girl I met one day.

His mother's screams could be heard over the phone.

— How could you do this to us," she reproached him.

— Mother, it just happened, stop the drama, I will be responsible for the baby and I will marry her.

— NO! — he shouted — what are you getting married for, is it 1800? stop being so old fashioned.

— Mother I will get married and have a child, it was not something I planned but it will happen and this way once and for all I will win grandfather's inheritance, two birds with one stone — he told her, he had only done it to reassure her, he knew that she wanted him to keep the inheritance and not his cousin Sirus, that mattered little to Alvaro, but it seems that his grandfather from beyond the grave was pulling the strings of his life.

He hung up the call and took a deep breath as he leaned back in his office chair, he opened the gallery of his cell phone and saw again the pictures of that night with Ana, he had felt so free and happy, as never before I must assume my responsibility, for the baby, he thought, he blocked the phone and concentrated on the now, he had to face that meeting and then he could go to look for Ana.

Sirus hung up the phone and cursed slowly, he had tapped his cousin's phone, for which he had to pay a fortune but that way he could find out all his movements, so he discovered that the asshole already had a child on the way and a wedding, he had to do something and fast.

— Did he adopt a child, would that count as a son? — He needed a plan, maybe to separate him from that girl in some way, he didn't know yet but he needed to bother his cousin a little, so he called him.

— Congratulations dad, how ambitious you have become dear little cousin, look how fast you go with the old man's wishes — he said sarcastically.

— And how quickly you find out my business Sirus, do me a favor and leave me alone. — he answered before hanging up the call.

— I hate you — he said to nothing.

At home Ana took a nap, she was starting to feel sleepy and hungry all the time, when she woke up her mother looked at her sitting on her bed crying.

— But mom, what are you doing there?

— Look what I found — she said while she raised her hands with a little baby onesie — I found some of your baby things and I felt nostalgic, because I know how hard it was to raise you alone, I don't want you to have to go through that, my daughter, a child will always need his father.

Ana knew it in her own flesh growing up without her father was difficult, this was not the life she imagined, but now it was not about her, she thought while she placed a hand on her belly.

—I'm scared mom," she said in a whisper.

— Oh my child, of course you will be, that's normal — he said hugging her — I will never leave you alone, whatever decision you make I will be with you.

Almost at the end of the afternoon Alvaro passed by Ana.

— Hello — they said in unison once she was inside the car.

He knew just which jewelry store they were going to so he continued driving without saying anything, they drove for a few minutes until he turned to look at her and she looked sick.

— Are you feeling all right?

— I think I'm going to faint, everything is spinning — she managed to say before falling into unconsciousness.

— Ana wake up, Ana! — He tried to get her to wake up but she remained unconscious, he accelerated and took the road that would take them to the hospital.

They entered the emergency room and were immediately attended to, Ana began to react.

— Her pressure is stable — said the nurse — the doctor will be right with you to check her.

They both stayed in the room in silence, Ana was lying on the stretcher.

— How do you feel? — he asked.

— A little weak.

The doctor came in.

— Hello Ana, how are you, tell me what happened?

— Hello doctor, I suddenly felt dizzy and lost consciousness, I still feel a little weak.

— That is normal in early pregnancy, it is nothing to be alarmed about, anyway we are going to do a blood test and check the baby — he informed while he turned on the ultrasound machine.

She prepared everything and then looked at Ana.

— Are you ready to see him?

— Yes — she answered smiling.

Alvaro watched everything in silence, his nerves attacked him as he was about to see his son for the first time.

— Well, I present to you — said the doctor as he pointed out the parts of the baby and explained little by little how to understand the echo — Everything is perfect with this little one, now we will listen to his heart — when he pressed a button the sound flooded the room, that little heartbeat amazed them, Alvaro turned to look at Ana who had tears in her eyes, he had a knot in his stomach, his son, both of them.
