Complete Opposites

One is an extroverted social light, the other prefers being alone and introverted. They’re probably the closest of friends anyone has ever seen, despite being so different.

Seen Too Much

"Are you sure?" I ask him, raising an eyebrow and glancing between him and the live stream. Zack has already seen the stream and sent me a few strings of texts calling me a whore and a cheater. I even got some from Keita and Afia just a few seconds before we broke the moment, they were warning me, and I chose to ignore the vibrations. I've even gotten a message from Adelle, congratulating me and asking if I'd like to get some hot chocolate and talk about it. I guess that she must've assumed that we were in a relationship. There's another buzz. It's from a guy in one of my classes that's been talking to me lately, his name is Chris Smith, though he's not as boring and plain as his name.

'How long have you two been together?' He asks, probably upset because he assumed that I was single after the whole Zack attack. 'Happy for you by the way.' He sends again and continues to type. 'Just wish you chose someone better.'

The fuck is that supposed to mean? He doesn't even know Knox, how dare he promptly assume that he's a bad guy. I knew Knox since forth fucking grade, and I knew this dude since a few months ago. He's in no position to say such things about my best friend, no one is.

I roll my eyes and choose to ignore the messages, any chances that he had before has completely dissipated now. Especially since he'll clearly be the kind of guy that'll be jealous of Knox's and I's friendship. I'd rather not be forced to distance myself from him again like I had with Zack. Though, I do still wish that I had a boyfriend, one that can understand that Knox and I are just best friends. One that I can work out with and that will understand me the way that Knox understands me.

Knox is still silent when I finally meet his eyes, he looks like he's going through a mental war within himself. I know that it would be best for me to stick around so then we can continue to hang out and blow past all of this, I'd much rather if we didn't distance from each other. But I also just want to go to sleep, or even go to meet up with Adelle.

My phone vibrates once again, it's from Adelle. 'You two aren't dating, are you?'

I can't help but faintly smile to myself, at least someone can clearly see the truth, 'No we're not, he was just comforting me and forgot that the stream was on.'

'Aw that's too bad,' She responds with a sad emoji. 'Still wanna meet up though?'

'Yeah sure,' I add a smiling emoji and hit send.

'You can invite Knox too if you'd like,' She offers, though I already know that he wouldn't want to go, but I'll still invite him anyway.

"Hey," I speak up and Knox flinches, like he was frozen in place for that entire time. "Want to get hot chocolate with me and Adelle sometime?"

"Adelle Sharp?" He asks, his jaw partially dropped like he's still trying to comprehend the words. I nod. He shakes his head, "No thanks, she seems nice, but I'd much rather just stay home and hangout with just the two of us."

I giggle slightly from that, "I figured. Want me to grab you anything when we go to meet up?"

His face lights up, excitement for the vast amount of things he could get automatically raising his energy levels. "Double chocolate chunk cookies and hot chocolate with whipped cream!" He beams.

I chuckle and look back down to my phone, 'He said no, but when would you like to meet up?'

'How about tomorrow around one?' She instantly responds in almost the same second that I sent the message. 'We can meet at the park nearby your place.'

'Sounds good, see you tomorrow!' I quickly respond, adding a bright smiling face and a thumbs up at the end of it.

'See ya!' She finishes and I finally put my phone back down, ignoring my still blowing up notifications.

"When are you two meeting up?" Knox asks, his expression still light and childish.

"Tomorrow at one," I grin, doing my best to ignore the light shining down into my eyes. I almost immediately regretted choosing to sit in the little glowing spot, though I still haven't moved because it's also the most comfortable area. "Changing your mind yet?"

He snorts and shakes his head, "Of course not."

I join in with a giggle, "That makes sense."

"So what should we do now?" He asks, glancing between me and the still blowing up chat box. The atmosphere seems to have lightened up a bit, making the nerves I've had beforehand seem meaningless. "Want me to end the stream?"

"I don't know," I mumble, letting my shoulders shrug faintly.

"How about you guys go and take Cerberus for a walk?" Afia shouts from the living room, still sounding muffled and smothered by my dog.

"But it's cold!" Knox whines, his voice carrying perfectly out of his room.

"No it isn't!" Keita retorts, stomping down the stairs and promptly appearing outside of his room. One of his hands is behind his back, and I can already tell what's about to happen. "You're just a weakling," He smirks, slightly adjusting whatever it is behind his back.

"Fuck off-"

Keita lifts his arm, gripping whatever it was behind his back even tighter. Almost like in slow motion, a white, round ball comes into view as Keita aims it directly for Knox's head. As the ball leaves Ketia's hands and begins flying forward, Knox slowly ducks down while also raising his fists to protect his head. The ball shoots past my view, speeding time back up to normal as half of it collides with Knox's knuckles and the other half smashes into the wall. Snow and water splatter everywhere as I sit frozen in my seat, still attempting to process how everyone is about to react in the next few seconds.

Slowly, Knox lowers his fists and raises his head, gazing between the icy cold snow on his knuckles and his guffawing brother outside of the doorway. Carefully, he spins on his chair and peers over to his wall, drips of water sliding down and soaking his floor.

"You fucking idiot," Knox glares at his older brother. With the slightest movement of Knox's muscles, both he and Keita disappear out of the room, speeding all the way up the stairs. Their voices sound jagged and slightly fearful as Cerberus barks and the couch squeaks. They most likely just ran over the couch.

My gaze slowly lingers between the doorway, the stream, and the water dripping down the wall. Gradually, I collect myself and place a hand on his gaming chair. It appears that there's also a bit of snow on here too, it melts as my eyes stall, watching it become transparent with the black seat. A message pops up on screen with a ding and my eyes shoot towards it, it seems to be some sort of donation message.

"So, you're Knox's new girlfriend huh?" The robotic voice speaks, messing up on the name.

"New girlfriend?" I mutter, thinking back to the last time Knox talked to me about any sort of girl. The only one coming to mind being some sort of mystery girl that he wouldn't stop talking to me about in seventh grade. The descriptions he told me were familiar, but I still never met her and he never told me her name. In fact, he never even showed me a picture of her. So when did he get a girlfriend, and why didn't he tell me about it? Is it possible that I said something wrong when he had a crush in seventh grade and he never felt comfortable talking to me about girls after that?

His comforting makes a slightly different ding three times, new subs. Good for him. My hand drifts over to his mouse, and my eyes linger towards his headset. I guess I should at least conclude the stream for him.

Without taking a seat on his wet chair, I put on the headphones and unmute the microphone, hovering the cursor over the 'End Stream' button. "Thank you all for coming on to the stream!" I force out a jolly smile and speak with an upbeat energy. "And I hope you all have an amazing day!"

With that, I end the stream, saving the video on his computer just in case he decides to upload this one, though I doubt it. The camera points at my face for a few moments, I blankly stare at my now-no-longer-smiling reflection, contemplating on if I should ask him about the girl or not.

"Alina!" Afia's voice calls out to me from the top of the stairs. "Are you ready? We're heading out."

I take a deep breath and step away from his computer, ignoring my bag in the corner. I'll get it later. "Coming!"
