“I was hoping to find out if a certain few names that have been popping up consistently during my investigation were also listed in your book. That would really clear things up, at least somewhat, and answer a few questions I have about why it was taken,” John explained. “Most people won’t go to the trouble of stealing something from a government facility unless it has value. What I can’t figure out, and I think one of the individuals I’m hunting down might be able to shed some light on, is the value of that ledger. Why steal it? I’m hoping the answers to those questions will lead me not only to the ledger but to those responsible for stealing it and why.”
“So, as usual, there is more going on than it looks like?” Todd asked.
John laughed. “Isn’t there always?” He looked around. “Got any paper and a pen?”
“Sure.” Nick stood and left the kitchen, returning a minute later with the requested objects. He handed them over to John.
