Rat Killer.

Bablu committed suicide. It was another shock for Vijay as well as the people in street no. 7.Why Bablu committed suicide, if there was any connection of him with the murders. Rani had lost consciousness. She was admitted in the govt. hospital. Now there wasn't anybody left in her family. Bablu's last rights were performed by his neighbors.

Pankaj told his father everything that he had told Vijay. Pankaj's father revealed that to the others. It was a shocking news to Billu's grieving family. But what could they do now. Neither Billu nor Anju was alive. They said if Billu had discussed this with them , they would have accepted Anju without any fuss.

Rani regained consciousness after a couple of days. As soon as she came to her senses, she began weeping bitterly. A nurse came to console her but, she could not do anything. Inspector reached hospital in half an hour. He requested Rani to tell him anything she knew about why Bablu committed suicide and if there was any connection of him with the murders.

Rani broke down. She said that Bablu was an alcoholic and a gambler. He had to clear lots of debts of some gangsters. They kept threatening him frequently. Things got worst for the family, as those goons began visiting their house to threaten Bablu with dire consequences, if their debts were not cleared. They would even threat that they would kill both Anju and Bablu. They would often come and misbehave with Anju. The pressure was building up. Anju wanted to get rid of all this by marrying Billu. Anju was the only saving grace for them, if she would have left them, their only ray of hope was lost. So Rani pleaded Anju to continue her performances, clear Bablu's debt and they she could marry anymore she wished. Rani waited for some time and then continued. She said all their hopes were killed along with the murder of Anju. Vijay asked her firmly if Bablu was behind the murder of Anju. Rani replied that Bablu could never do so. Why would he kill his only source of income. Vijay thought for sometime and said that it might be so because it could be a case of honour killing. Rani with teary eyes said that both her children were dead. There wasn't any reason for her to live. Why she would tell a lie now. Vijay thought her argument was cogent

Rani told him that she would never be able to go to her house again. Vijay consoled her by saying that everything would be fine. She had to live. To his consoling words, she gave a statement which stunned Vijay. She said that Bablu killed Billu.

She told him that after the murder of Anju, Bablu got mad. He held Billu responsible for it. But he didn't want to do anything in a fit of rage. He crafted a plan. During the last rights of Anju when everyone was hugging Bablu to console him, he secretly whispered in Billu's ears that he knew who had killed Anju, and he needed his help.He asked Billu to come home at midnight without being noticed by anybody. Billu agreed and came their home at midnight. When he came, Bablu strangulated him and and left his bare body in the street.He was sure that everyone would believe that the same person who killed Anju, had killed Billu too. Vijay couldn't believe his ears.

Vijay was speechless. He concluded that the murder of Billu was solved. But what was the reason of finding carcasses of crows on the roofs of Anju and Billu's roofs, he asked her. Rani said that it was just to fuel the theory of superstitions associated with both the murders. She said that Bablu used heavy dose of rat poison and collected some dead rats and threw them on their roof. In a few minutes, the dead rats were eaten by crows and they too were killed instantly. There were four dead crows. He let two of them remained on their own roof and threw the other two on the roof of Billu.

Vijay was aghast at this shocking revelation. But what could he do now, as the culprit had already committed suicide. He asked Rani why Bablu took this step to kill himself. She told him that Bablu was restless since he had killed Billu. He was in constant fear of being arrested. When he got to know that Pankaj was talking to Vijay, he knew that now he would be arrested for sure. His doubt turned to be true when Vijay came to their house.

Vijay asked Rani if he could help her in any way, she started laughing madly. She picked up a dish and hit it at Vijay's head. She started jumping on the bed and was movin her head madly. Instead of sending her back home she was shifted to an asylum from there immediately. Vijay returned back to street no 7 with swollen head.

He talked to the people there and revealed all what Rani had told him.

There was another surprise waiting for him the next morning. The people in street no. 7&5 were not aware that two constables were keeping a watch during nights outside both the streets in civil dress for some nights as they were ordered to do so by Vijay. One of them was missing while the other was found dead in street no. 7.
