“I think I need to do this in person, though. Maybe fly up there for a quick weekend visit?”

“That’s a good idea,” Wes said. “If your dad really is on the fence, it’ll be harder to reject you to your face.”

“And Helen and I can both be there to back you up,” Greg added.

I rubbed the back of my neck as I looked into my brother’s eyes. Perhaps the weakness I felt was from relief as built-up tension drained from my muscles. Oddly enough, simply making the decision had eased my stress level. Still, I wanted to get it over with ASAP. “Maybe two weeks from now?”

“I’ll be there. And I’ll text Helen later to fill her in.”

“Okay.” I took a deep breath, blew it out, and searched for a subject change. “Let’s consider that settled. The friends we were with last night suggested we get together to play pool or video games this afternoon. If that sounds good to you, maybe we could all do that.”
