Chapter 49 : Cabin by the Lake

Things changed after we foiled the kidnapping attempt and Kendrick died. Well, some things changed. You know the old saying, though it does bear repeating. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
What had changed? Alex and I had grown much closer, more intimate than I’d thought possible. Neither of us wanted to hold back any longer. Saying the dreaded L word to each other hadn’t bound us at all. In fact, it had set us free.
Now that we had that admission out of the way, we could concentrate on enjoying each other’s company. Which we did, frequently.
I’m not sure why Sylvia didn’t get suspicious when her father moved his permanent office to the same locale as his temporary office. He said he just liked the atmosphere of the small college town over that of the big city. We both knew it was bullshit.
