Change of fates: The assassin wife takes over

[Status: Ongoing] ***I update when I can and have time*** ~~~~~ "I can't help but love you, even though I try not to." ~~~~~ “Every time you speak all I hear is the shrieking of a dying cat!” “Well, every time you speak I want to strangle myself!” They both shared a small silence after their statements. “Screw you, Lewis!” Clair humphed and turned her heels, changing her direction to her bedroom. “Lewis? Did you just call me Lewis?” James’s eyes turned wide as he marched after her. “Yes, and?”
“Well screw you too Ainara.” Clair gasped. “You dirty little-“
“You started this first!” Oh, she begged to differ. “You man child!” “Are you seriously speaking right now? You’re acting like a child yourself!” “Whatever I’m out of this stuffy palace!” “If you’re going to run away at least don’t announce it. Look how that turned out for you last time.” He mocked. “Well, third times the charm! L-E-W-I-S” She raised her hand picking up her pace as he still followed behind her persistently. He suddenly stopped and said, “Fine. You can try to run away I don’t care.” Clair halted her steps and turned around. “Really?” She asked. He could imagine literal hearts in her eyes right now. Not responding he turned around and walked to the opposite direction where his room was, only to realize they had the same bedroom! He then turned around and entered their room, slamming the door shut. Clair scoffed and ran down the hall to make her grand escape. ….. A few minutes later, If the guards who were trying to help up their unconscious fellow guards, didn’t witness their King pick up their Queen and drop her on his shoulder like a bag of potatoes, they would have thought he was carrying their Queen’s corpse. With her head hanging low Clair groaned. “You said I could escape.”
“No, I said you could try.” ******* Cold-blooded.Cruel.Demoness.Killer. That’s what they labeled her as, not that they were wrong. She was feared amongst all killers, many said the devil himself was afraid of her. But others insisted she was the devil herself! This was the way she survived, the way she trained herself for the most important day of her life. The day she could take revenge on the man who had stolen all her family members from her. Saved by her adopted father in the attempt to give up on her own life, she received a new identity and chance. Just when she thought she was able to put her past away, someone shows up with the intention of marrying his son off to her. Since when did she get men as offerings? Sure she was a goddess, but guys chill out! "It was love at first sight!" Her adopted father insisted. The way they both tried to strangle each other as soon as they met, was love at first sight? What are we? What have we become? -------- (TW's: mentions of sexual assault, r@pe, and suicide.) Instagram: Author_lizmorgan Discord: lizmorgan#9231 Discord Link: https://discord.gg/pA7JTjngJv

Chapter Forty-Nine: Dance with me

Clair got inside her car to head back home. When she thought of going back to her mansion she remembered the man who promised to wait for there by the time she comes back.

She unknowingly smiled. It was a weird feeling really. Having someone wait for you to get home.

Though, she was never the type to like things like that it still brought warmth to her heart. Knowing her father and brother also waited for her with open arms made her happy.

To be honest, this was the best feeling in the world. Things have really changed for the better.

She shook those thoughts away and continued driving. She tapped a small screen in the car and called Anna.

"Wow, isn't this surprising?"

"Hmm."

"No really, is there something you need?" Anna asked. It was definitely shocking to get a call from her. She would be even more shocked if she knew what Clair was thinking.

'No, I just needed someone to talk to.' Clair answered in her mind.

"Yes, I need some advice. Let's meet up tomorrow." If there was someone who could explain to her how a contractual marriage works then it would be Anna. After all, that is how her marriage started.

Though, she and her husband fell in love they had their troubles.

She needed advice because she wanted a good relationship with James. They became husband and wife for their own reasons but, it's best if she communicates well with him so that they don't have arguments and things like that.

Though, marrying James was an impulsive decision of hers she had done it and would take full responsibility for her actions. That, for as long as their marriage lasts.

God, she definitely did not want to end up like Anna.

She had declined a bunch of missions to go and support her friend and even helped her fake her own death. It was a wild experience.

She was just...how old 18?

It was fun being a teenager.

She kinda missed being wild and free.

Parties, the thrill of dangerous missions, flirting with pretty boys, and many other things she enjoyed like jumping out of cliffs and swimming during the night.

She shuddered.

Jumping out off cliffs will definitely not happen again.

'God, I'm so depressing.' She laughed.

She shook her head and continued driving.

Anna furrowed her eyebrows wanting to ask what she was laughing about.

"Ah okay, I'll go to your office then. I what to meet Yaci. Did she agree to come along for the trip?"

"...."

"You forgot didn't you."

"Tch, you did."

"Sorry…." Clair pouted.

"Tsk tsk. I'll go tomorrow and we can also discuss the trip and everything." She sighed at the end.

"Got it. Since it's Annie's birthday soon I'll set up the plans to compensate." Clair offered.

"Perfect! Also, can you believe she wants to change her name? See she's following your influence. Can you talk to her whenever you can?"

"Sure."

"Changing your name doesn't change the past neither does it erase it you know. Sometimes we have to embrace our flaws and make the best of it. Everyone has a past and no one will judge you for it. And if they do you can just punch the sh*t out of them, cuz' they aren't minding their own business like they should."

Clair chuckled. "Thank you for the advice, I appreciate it."

"You should be grateful to have such a great mentor like me. Aren't I awesome?"

"Yes yes, you are amazing."

After a few minutes, their conversation ended.

Her conversation with Anna cheered her up. Now, Clair was happily driving home with the urge to eat. She might neglect her stomach sometimes but when there's good food, there is no way she would not eat.

Knowing that one of her favorite meals would be on the menu for today's dinner made her excited.

Moments like these are the ones she treasures the most because it is at those times that's she's happy with herself.

...

When Clair arrived, coincidentally she received a text from James that he had also arrived.

She parked her car and she glanced at the other one. She told her guards to stay put and walked towards her husband's car. She then knocked on the window and it rolled down.

"You can come in. Did you wait long or did you just arrived?" She asked.

"I just arrived." He responded with a gentle smile.

"Great let's go in!" She returned the smile.

He lifted an eyebrow at her but he opened the car down and stepped outside. Suddenly, being covered by the tall man Clair took a step back and focused her eyes on the door.

"I want to kiss you."

Huh?

She did not just hear that.

Her brain exploded in confusion and shock, she stood there frozen with a speechless expression.

Jace felt like hitting himself on the steering wheel. 'Like a tyrant, he says what he wants and he takes it. That's not how relationships work!' He wanted to yell in frustration.

James took her silence as a yes and he gently touched her lips sucking on her lower one for a bit and then letting go.

As if he had just gotten his daily fill he held her hand and started walking towards the entrance of the mansion.

Clair was so speechless that she just followed him inside silently.

"Madam brought a man home?"

"Who caught her fancy?"

"I'm not the only one who just saw a man walk in or am I?"

"I thought she was with Mr. Elliot."

"Right! It seems that's not the case anymore. Do you think they broke up?"

James frowned.

'Who's Elliot?' He wanted to ask.

"Young Miss, please inform me ahead of time next time you bring a guest." He butler bowed, he seemed displeased.

Clair sighed.

"....umm…..James will be staying with me until our engagement ceremony. Please have the kitchen staff prepare two meals instead of one."

Her butler sighed, not forgetting to send James a disapproving glance. He was upset! How could his Young Miss be stolen by some unknown man overnight! Marrying so suddenly was not her nature so he was convinced that she was being forced.

After introducing James to her household, they ate dinner together. It was very peaceful and they even invited Jace to stay for dinner as well. They shared their points in different things as they ate.

When they finished Jace bid them goodbye.

Clair asked one of the maids to take James' luggage to her room and to leave it there. Afterward, she dismissed all the staff leaving both of them alone in the mansion.

She had a smaller separate house behind the mansion for the servants because sometimes she would just want to be on her own. Aside from their rooms in the mansion they had their own private spaces in the other house so it was pretty convenient for them.

"Dance with me." Clair walked towards the speaker in the leaving room and she started playing music.

"I'm in a good mood so I'm giving you a chance to make up for what you did earlier."

Wow, that was sexy.

Stay safe~
