Sam was with Power, waiting outside their building to see who had shot up their apartment.
Sam looked at Power while holding Meowy in his hands.
If not for Power, he would have died or suffered a deadly injury.
But then again, if not for her, he would have been outside.
"Now that I think of it, this is a world of devils. I get it now," Sam laughed.
"What is it?" Power asked Sam.
'I could have simply made a deal with a wealthy devil and gotten the money without causing all this trouble,' Sam thought as he put his hand under his chin. 'Some politicians have contacts with devils. I can use them. On the other hand, Makima is the Control Devil. What if she can control the digits in my bank account...'
Sam said. "Power, I've found a money glitch."
"Please stop. Every time you think, we almost die," Power said.
"Trust me. You're going to be able to eat caviar daily. And not the cheap kind," Sam smiled.
"First. There is nothing such as cheap caviar. And they are coming."
"Hold on." Sam created a circle with his thumb and index finger. "The last thing we want is to destroy the building we live in."
Sam observed a group of yakuza-like individuals exiting the building. They looked confused.
"We followed them, yet somehow we didn't catch them."
"They couldn't have gotten far."
All of them were armed with guns and rifles.
Sam took a deep breath. "This angle should leave a few of them exposed." He then said, "Kon."
A building-sized head of a fox demon appeared out of nowhere, swallowing a bunch of yakuza.
"These seem to be humans. Is it okay for me to swallow them?" asked the Fox Devil.
Sam kicked his legs. "Spit two of them out. The rest are fine."
The devil spat out two humans before vanishing into smoke.
"Power, take care of them. Don't let them lose consciousness or die."
"Don't worry." Power put her cat down and cracked her fists. As a fiend, one punch from her could be lethal.
"I'll make a quick call." Sam called Makima, who picked up immediately.
"Boss, I have an urgent report. A group of gangsters shot at me in my apartment. I suspect it's the snake girl," Sam said, not giving Makima a chance to respond. "I have a hunch that she's conducting a wide attack, targeting other agents simultaneously. I'll let you do what you do best."
Coldly, Makima asked, "Did you get shot?"
"I didn't get injured," Sam said. "Power is fine too." He looked at Power. "And I left two of the gangsters alive. You can interrogate them later."
The two men were getting their bones broken and their blood manipulated. They looked at Sam with pleading eyes.
Power, on the other hand, looked like she was having fun.
"She's more than fine, actually," Sam confirmed.
"Good job. Call the police and leave the interrogation to them," Makima said.
"As you wish, boss." He then hung up the call before she could respond. He then looked at the two gangsters.
"Now that I'm done with my calls, I'll show you what true torture is," Sam said. "Do you know me?"
"Yes," one of them replied.
"Good," Sam nodded. "Do you remember what I did to the ribs of the man who threw a knife at me?"
One of them broke into a cold sweat, but no one replied.
"I'll take that as a yes," Sam cracked his fingers. "Now, imagine what I can do to a man who shot at me."
"Please! Spare us. We were just following orders."
"Orders from who? And where is she?" Sam asked as he squatted in front of the two beaten men.
"We don't know."
"We're just mobsters, and we follow orders."
"I see." Sam paused for a moment, then said, "And let's say, for argument's sake, most of you died and a few survived, who should be the one to report back to her?" Sam guessed that anyone would do.
One of them flinched, and Sam pointed a finger at him. "You are to report. Lucky you." He then picked him up by the neck, took his phone, and looked for the nearest trash can.
"Power, how much do you bet that I won't miss the target?"
"500 Yen."
"Deal." Sam threw the gangster into the trash. The last thing he cared about was giving a man who wanted to kill him a decent treatment. His target was in the trash can.
Power scoffed.
"Boom." Sam lifted his head. "If only I were taller, I could play basketball."
"You're not dunking him. Besides, the bin was on the ground. Anyone could do it."
Sam extended his hand to her.
Power grabbed a banknote and handed it to him.
She then angrily turned and started kicking the other man, showing her frustration at losing the bet.
Sam chuckled a bit. He then looked at the phone and saw the latest numbers. Most of them were of men, with various titles and hearts next to their names. But there was one girl's name that didn't have any title or hearts next to it.
Akane Sawatari.
So, that's the person he was looking for.
Upon remembering her, Sam couldn't help but laugh. She was a total idiot whom he left when she was explaining her plan.
He decided to dial the number. It might be her.
"Did you kill him?" said a feminine voice. It sounded familiar.
"Yes, we did as you told," Sam said. "To be sure, you wanted the black-haired man with sharp eyes who always carries a katana."
"I've already sent you a picture of him, idiots."
"He's too handsome to die," Sam said. "Man, it would have been really sad if I had actually died."
"Wait. That voice," she said. "You're alive, I see."
"I know that last time I left you explaining something," Sam said. "I never thought you'd hold a grudge against people who made you look like an idiot."
"Who looked like the idiot, idiot? Me or you, who left the site and ran away like a chicken?" Akane replied.
"Run away? I Jumped, bitch," Sam replied. "By the way, how about we forget our grudges and move on?"
"Hehe. Move on, after you crushed the heart of the Katana Devil. Are you sure?"
"I mean, I have something you want, and you have something I want. So how about we resolve this, you and me?"
"What do you mean?"
"You want the Chainsaw Man's heart, don't you?"
She went silent for a moment. Sam smirked. He was right.
"What do you want?"
"I'll bring him to you. Let's meet outside the city, in the countryside. In exchange, you bring with you, let's say, something worth 200 million Yen," Sam said.
Of course, he had no intention of selling Denji to her. But after dealing with her and the Snake Devil, he would get a lot of money and experience.
"I always thought you were scum," she said. "But now I'm certain. Deal," Akane said.
"I'll send you the location."
