Become The Sky Not A Bird

Inside her room, Mo Roulan was currently sitting on a chair. In front of her, a paper was placed. She was staring at the paper placed on the table. It was an admission form of Central University. All her information was already filled in the form. The only thing left was her signature.

The conversation she had with her mother just now revolved in her mind. She still can't believe that her mother went alone to City H and had already done so many things without letting her know anything.

"Mother, you .... How did you get this form?"

Lin Qianru avoided meeting her daughter's eyes and said looking around the room.

"I went to City H, Central University. Actually...."

Mo Roulan eyes went wider when she heard her mother and she didn't even let her mother complete her sentence.

"Alone?"

Mo Roulan raised her eyebrows and tilted her head in Lin Qianru's direction while asking this.

At her question, Lin Qianru nodded meekly like a child accepting her mistake. She wondered why she gets scared of her daughter at times like this.

Seeing her mother like this, Mo Roulan's heart softened for a moment but she quickly sobered herself thinking of the consequences, the incident could have. She composed her expression and asked her mother

"You went alone to City H. Mom, How can you even think about it? What if something happened to you on the way? You know that doctor had strictly disallowed any traveling for you and you still.....How would I even get to know...if something really bad....."

Mo Roulan could not even form her sentence properly because the more she talked, the more her heart felt stifled.

At times like this, she found her mother very selfish. Just like five years ago, when she had told her mother that the money she had was from the diamond necklace, her mother's reaction told her that she never thought about selling the necklace.

Although Mo Roulan didn't know what sentimental value the necklace had for her mother, she felt hurt on seeing that her mother could leave her and her brother all alone in this world and die without undergoing any hospital treatment instead of selling a damn diamond necklace.

Lin Qianru felt a little guilty in her heart on seeing hurt and pain in her daughter's eyes. But she still tried to defend herself.

I just showed them the documents that proved that I am your mother and told them that you can't come to get the admission form for some reason. "You withdrew the money from the bank."

It was not a question but a statement. Mo Roulan sat down on her bed with a thump with her mouth open.

"How much...how much is left now? "

Lin Qianru didn't answer and Mo Roulan continued

"How will we get back the necklace from the jeweler now? Mother, how can you do this?"

Lin Qianru sat on the bed by her side and placed her hand on her daughter's shoulder whose mind was in a mess.

"Roulan, Mother doesn't need that necklace. Let the jeweler do whatever he wants. Mother just wants you to study in a good College."

These gentle and soft words suddenly made Mo Roulan nose a little sore.

'And she thought that her mother was selfish?'

She turned in her mother's direction.

"Mom, what is the need to go to City? I assure you I will get a good job even after studying from the town's college."

Lin Qianru looked at her daughter and found out that her daughter really don't want to go to City. She felt that her worries were for nothing. Her daughter was not ambitious like him who left her for her ambitions no matter how much she loved him.

But she still wanted Mo Roulan to study at Central University. When she saw the huge University yesterday, she wished that her Roulan can study in a place like this. She couldn't believe that the Universities had changed so much in these years.

She didn't tell Roulan because she knew that Roulan would stop her by saying something and now she was glad that she did so.

Lin Qianru held her hand and looked into her daughter's eyes.

"Roulan, Why do you want to become a mere bird, when you can become the sky that can hold so many birds in its arms? You are getting a scholarship to study in the most prestigious university in the country then why do you want to study in a local college?. Mother doesn't know what is stopping you, but Mother wants you to think clearly Is it worth leaving this precious opportunity of your life? "

Saying this, she left the room.

Lin Qianru didn't know that her last sentence hit the nail. Mo Roulan sat stunned as the words rang in her mind.

She doesn't want to leave the town because to her, this town was her blanket under which she felt most safe and secure. Her heart knew in a corner what she was trying to avoid.

She doesn't want to see him.

She was scared that she would become weak again. So she chose to live in the town in this life.

But was he worth it? Why does she care when he didn't at all? and when he will not even in this life.

She took a deep breath to calm down her emotions and took the admission form in her hands again.

The next morning, Mo Roulan almost slumped down on the ground from her bed when she heard her mother's scream. Opening her eyes, she saw her mother's enlarged face in front of herself and her mother was kissing her face continuously saying.

"My baby, Mother is so proud of you to take such a wise decision."

Mo Roulan could only accept her mother's kisses helplessly.
