Chapter 5

Still hoping its me and you in the end - King Tony

RUBY'S POV:

After such an exhausting chat with Lesley, I just flopped onto the bed. Today, my mum has also calls to tell me they'd finalized a business deal that required them moving away so shed registered me to finish my final year of secondary school over at Bry's house. Aunt Margaret was more than overjoyed to hear that I'd be staying the year here and with my JAMB examination in six months, now was no time to play around but seeing as her house was almost always filled with visitors, I'd have to discipline myself. That's the part of the reason I'm running away from all this James drama.

Still thinking of what day would be the best to get my things from my house, three states away. I didn't really pay attention to the door till Bry walked in. She walked in with a devious smile on her lips. I've known her all my life but when she has that smile on her face, I have to take cover because it ends on tears for who she plans against.

"You up for a little prank call?", she said knowing she had to hint that I was safe.

" Always. Who's our victim?" I said scooching closer to the spot she had taken up on my bed.

"James"

"Oh, I'm so in"

"So what's the part?"

"How about you just improvise. I mean one of our classics. He doesn't have your contact info yet right"

"Yeah. Let the magic begin"

I dialled his number and began clearing my throat and popping a gumball into my mouth. The b*tch in me needs to be let out.

"Hello", he said once he picked up the call.

" Hey baby its me", I said in a really shrill voice.

"Me, who?"

"You don't recognize my voice. I told you I'd call back", I said, stifling my laughter.

" Really Aiime. You keep forgetting it was just a fling"

"But Jamie I love you. Just give us a chance. I'll do any thing", I said swearing under my breath for calling him Jamie.

" Please no. Not this again"

"But James..."

"No buts Aiime. I can't do this any longer and that's final"

"There's another girl, isn't it?"

"I can't just want to get my life in order without there being a girl"

"What's she got that I don't"

"A life, okay, a life"

"Well then guess what?"

"I'm no good at guessing"

"Its me, Ruby"

"Ruby as in Ruby Blues, my lady, my baby"

"Yes as in Ruby Blues"

"Well aren't you a bad girl? Wanting me to profess my love to you, O fairest Ruby"

"Well it was part of the fun"

"Who did you think I was?"

"Someone you wouldn't know but never mind that"

"Well Mr. Hottie sorry to burst your bubble"

"Baby, you blew this bubble"

"Uh huh. Well I could do this all day but I have a call to make right about now"

"To who?"

"Baby, being jealous isn't a nice colour on you"

"But..."

"Kisses. Buh bye"

I dropped the call before he'd tell me he loves me or add compliments that would keep me awake this night. After the last phone call the other night and the compliments, my poor heart can't take more.

"That was fun, wasn't it?", Brylee asked, smiling.

" Yeah",I replied.

"But who'd he think you were"

"Some girl named Aiime"

"Did he say who she is?"

"Nope, not even a clue"

Immediately, my phone beeped with a text from him.

I don't drink but you're like alcohol, I can't seem to get enough of you.

Me

Haha. Nice one

I know you're blushing.

Me

Well, maybe I am, maybe I'm not. What's it to you?

Jamie❤

Either way, you look hot doing it.

Me

I have no words.

Jamie❤

Seems like you found another gift.

Me

What?

Jamie❤

Being the only one I want so bad

Me

Is that a gift or a coincidence?

Jamie❤

Call it what you want but it doesn't change anything.

Me

If you say so.

I dialled Richey's number just as I sent the message, it was part of our ritual to pick up immediately so just as he did so.

"Richey, its just a crush but I think I like him", I said and Gaby just smirked and walked out.

" Really", he said and I could tell he was full on smiling.

"Richy, this isn't funny", I said, exasperated.

" I know but you do owe me five litres of ice cream"

"I know I said I wouldn't so much as look at a guy"

"Well then he must be a really special guy to be able to break Ruby's resolve"

"I don't know but I didn't budget for this"

"I know you didn't but love comes surprisingly"

"I never said it was love"

"So you're looking for a fling"

"Well not exactly, no"

"Then what are you looking for?"

"Nothing"

"Then tell him"

"Its complicated"

"Then lay it down"

"I don't know but the other night when he tried to kiss me, I'm pretty sure I'd have let him"

"And you'd have gone back for more"

"So"

"You're more blind than I'd thought", he said and dropped the call.

The fifth chapter as promised. I think Richey's the best friend a girl can have. This idea of male best friend's usually doesn't go well for me. I still have hope though.
