Chapter 13

Naomi, Kyle's mother came home to see the whole house was clean, she was baffled. What was Kyle up to this time? She entered the kitchen to see Kyle making dinner.

"Hi Mom, you're back," he said.

"Kyle, what a surprise, you're cooking dinner?"

"Sure. Why don't you go upstairs and freshen up, dinner will be ready by then" he said checking what he had on the gas and stirring it.

"Ok, if you say so." She said climbing up the stairs

"That reminds me Kyle there's something I want to talk to you about"

"Don't worry after dinner we'll have it all sorted out" he said.

The mother was surprised at his happy mood, he seemed to have forgotten all about his worries, she was happy but what bothered her the most was she didn't know exactly what the cause of his happiness was.

Kyle's father soon came back from work just as Kyle was setting the table for dinner.

"Honey I'm home, something sure smells good around here," he said sniffing the air. "Kyle"

Oh! Hi Dad" he said

"Where's your mom?"

"She's upstairs, she came back not quite long"

"Ok"

"You mean you prepared dinner all by yourself?" The father asked, still surprised.

"Yeah I did," he said.

"Alright, I'll be down in a jiffy"

Kyle rarely cooked he barely entered the kitchen. His mother did all the cooking, he only helped out when he was in a good mood.

Kyle's parents soon came downstairs for dinner, they took their respective positions and Kyle said grace.

"Hmm, this is tasty," his father said, taking a bite of pork hock, "where did you learn how to prepare this pork hock?"

"Malia taught me, it was her favorite meal.

Everybody kept quiet and focused on their meal. Nobody said anything again until after the meal.

"I gotta give it to you Kyle, that was one hell of a meal," his father said commending his efforts.

"Thank you, Dad," he said.

"Indeed" his mother added "Maybe from now you'll be the one doing all the cooking around here"

"Nah! I don't think so"

They all laughed at his joke. His parents bade him goodnight and went upstairs.

"Mom, Dad, are you guys still traveling tomorrow?" He asked.

"Yes Kyle, why?" Asked the father.

"Nothing," he said. "Goodnight"

"Goodnight Kyle"

The parents went to their room and Kyle went to his. As soon as he got to his room he called Sophia.

"Hello"

"Hey"

"You lucky I'm not asleep," she said giggling.

"Yeah," he said.

"So, had dinner?" She asked.

"Yeah just did, what about you?" He asked.

"Cool," she said, "goodnight Kyle, I got work in the morning"

"Alright, goodnight," he said.

Kyle hung up and lay on his bed thinking about Sophia. He was beginning to have a soft spot for her, could it be love? He quickly brushed the thought from his mind and thought about something else when suddenly there was a knock on the door.

"Who's there?" He asked.

"May I come in?"

"Mom, yeah sure come in, have a seat."

His mother entered and looked around the room nodding her head in approval

"Your room is clean, as expected," she said.

"Thanks, Mom"

The mother sat on the bed while he sat on the chair, she cleared her throat and began.

"Kyle, remember I said I wanted to talk to you about something,"

"Yes, Mom I remember, what is it?" He asked.

"Remember that girl you came in the ambulance this afternoon, what's her name again, Anna.. "

"Anastasia" Kyle offered.

"Yes Anastasia," she said.

"What about her?"

"Well, her father came to meet me asking me to apologize to you on his behalf, he said he did something to you as a result his daughter has refused to talk to him," she said.

Kyle sighed.

"I know you well Kyle, when you're mad at somebody you barely talk to them but could it be different this time, just for the sake of his daughter" his mother begged.

Kyle sat up straight on the chair thinking about what his mother had said. She was right, he barely forgave people who offended him except that person was extremely special to him.

"You're right Mom, that's me. Concerning what happened at the hospital today it's difficult to forget about it. Stretching out my hand for a handshake and being completely ignored made me embarrassed, I never wanted anything to do with any of them ever again. That was the thought that crossed my mind when I left the hospital" he said.

"I understand how you feel Kyle but…"

"I'm not finished mom, the thing is I was in a good mood when I got back from the hospital so as a result of that I've decided to forget whatever it is that had happened, it's all in the past now." He said.

"Really," his mother asked, not believing her ears.

"Yes Mom, I realized it's not right"

"Wow, this is great news."

His mother was joyed that he finally accepted to forgive Mr. Malcom, she thought it was gonna be difficult, that had been her fear.

"That settled then, goodnight son," she said

"Goodnight Mom"

The mother stood up and left the room, after she left Kyle went for a cold shower before bed, he was very tired as it had been a very busy day for him. When he got out of the shower he made for the bed and slept off in a matter of minutes.
